Oh man this makes me super emotional... I used to go up to Ketchikan every summer to stay with my uncle and fish hard for a week. He was diagnosed with cancer which led to us canceling our trip for 4 years in a row.. we didn't think we would be able to do the trip with him again... he ended up recovering and really wanted us to go again. He passed away last year 1 week before my dad and I were going up. We have many memories of fishing up there that I will cherish forever. Enjoy those waters! It is truly magical

Used to guide salmon and Steel on the Olympic peninsula, and my by far favorite trips were catching people's first wild steely. You only get that once. What a fun trip you three have gone on the last few years. Looking good!

I've lived in Alaska all my life and I think you will have some of the fishing on your hands also if you ever come back here and are in the soldotna area I really would like to meet you. I love your content and you are an inspiration to me to keep fishing and getting outdoors.

Wish I still lived there, but I'll be back. The stretch from skilak lake to sterling was my" home" for several years. Did the combat fishing occasionally, but it detracted from the purpose. Would love to drop a line with ya when I get back up there.

Dude I love you. I had the same experience down in Texas recently. Been fishing for redfish off and on my whole life but finally got my career in line for me to be able to buy a yak and all the gear. Your videos kept me sane while I was working towards it. Kayaked through the marsh for hours just to land 1 trophy red. Ended up in a flooded cow pasture that redfish love during the spring time, the southeast winds flood these pastures in the spring and it’s a redfish haven that no boats can get to. anyways, man you’re such a wonderful lifeblood of fishing that can’t be beat. Wonderful video I was tearing up watching that release. If you ever wanna explore some flooded cow pastures in the Texas marsh don’t hesitate.

Awesome. Enjoy AK. It's a different world. I graduated from high school on Adak Island. We used to catch pink salmon between classes on our lunch break. You could hold a hook with fresh salmon roe on it about 2-3" above the water and the Dolly Varden would literally jump out of the water to bite it. I got a little spoiled . . .
@allantrautman34762 жыл бұрын
Nothing compares to Alaska river fishing. I lived at Fort Richardson 78-79 and it completely spoiled me for fishing compared to the lower 48. I still enjoy it. One cast, one bite, is a hard thing to get over. May your next days be one cast, one bite.

I always add a small bead in between the top bobber stop and the top of the float, It doesnt beat the float up as much and holds your line slightly further above the float. So awesome what a beautiful fish! They are little Silver and Green bullets!

Yo Matt, ever thought bout chill vlog style videos where you take it easy at a pier and talk about life and stuff? I know Piers are kinda ehh. I just thought a super low energy video would be fun inbetween the other usual uploads. You're content is amazing and is why i picked up fishing as a hobby 3 years ago.

For snags in a river if you have a bottle you can fill it 1/3 full and tie a short piece of line around the neck. To that piece of line tie a snap swivel and attach that rig to your line with snap swivel and let it drift out until it is downstream of your snag and pull. Captain Quinn’s KZfaq channel has a video of it called “the geanie in a bottle”. Works very well if your gears not to flossed in between rocks or in wood
