In this episode of my month long road trip fishing across South Africa I fish for Bass in an abandoned brick factory in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. The water was cold and shallow and I had my doubts but this cold water bass fishing was so good that it could have been summer. I tried a few interesting techniques including catching some cliff bass that were probably the highlight of my bass fishing session. There is nothing quite like fishing for bass in South Africa.

I don't normally give out where I am fishing out of respect for the local fishermen but seeing that these waters are only accessible if you are staying at the accommodation there I will let you know, this is at Smokey Moon Backpackers in Grahamstown. This is a freshwater body of water inland. Considering the brick factory was there is the late 1800s they could have been in there for quite a while. But personally I have no idea😂😂😂

I think the factory was in use into the 80's, so quite likely the fish were introduced relatively recently.

Good job, there used to be a small raft floating in that dam. We fished off of it and used it to cross to the other side. Watch out though, the biggest rinkhals i have ever seen lives near that dam. If you go back, fish the ponds at the literature museum(near where you where). There used to be a decent population of bluegill and 3 or 4 football bass(3kg+). That will get you some views especially if the security chases you. (they won't if you do it in the evening)

I did see a canoe floatng in the middle but the water was freezing.....no chance I was gonna swim out to it...I always think about snakes before I go fishing but quickly forget once I'm there....😂😂😂 taking on the security could be interesting......
