I really miss this era of RS. Such great memories

I had forgotten all about it, but this video started bringing back all the memories. I remember doing a ton of FoG F2P as a kid when it first came out, getting the green FoG mage robes and killing people who only used melee. I also remember finding several places that I could hide while charging the stone, and making so many people upset because I rarely just rushed the middle, while most other players I fought rushed mid and died immediately.

FoG was in 2008, just a year after OSRS's save. Free magic training isn't a problem, since we already have Alching which actually profits. FoG is a great alternative that's less xp per hour, but is more fun. Remember you have to wait for a game to start and then chase people around. It's more downtime than uptime. The degradable skilling gloves aren't that bad either, because it takes a long time to acquire them. If your goal is 99 fishing, it doesn't make sense to spend hours getting gloves just for them to fall apart after an hour.

This was hands down my favorite minigame as a kid, would be amazing if it ever made it into osrs

Fist of Guthix is cool, but I would perfer stealing creation.

god i wish FoG would come back. this game was so fun. lol also. interesting note you left out about all of the rewards here. they were almost all degradeable. so while the rune saving effect was super strong, it wasn't anywhere near as powerful as you made it seem. They only really lasted 6 hours before you would need to get them recharged, which cost about as much as a new set costs.

this wouldn’t work because people would add you and turn on entity hider. cant hide in the center anymore and you are easy to find.

Fist of Guthix was the first iteration of a battle royale game.

Damn man...Fist of Guthix was like the last major content I engaged in with RS2 before going on a long hiatus. Ground for hours in my limited free time at home to get the combat robes and even found a guy willing to switch off roles and we both ended up getting a ton of xp together. I was very proud of myself back then as a F2P player to have gotten that far...god the memories.

Also the Fist of Guthix cave entrance was in low level Varrock wild & created a popular multi pk hot spot

Thanks for bringing me back to the past! I remember I had the berserker rune shield, the Earth gloves, and swordfish gloves. Then I create an account strictly for a fists of guthix named Folmetolmage that was a mage defence Pure. Lmao I did random builds back then 😅

When you have to spend 3-4 hours to get those swordfish gloves then the actual bonus xp per hour is a lot smaller than it looks like plus it’s almost impossible to boost the mini game with random matchmaking so they aren’t really that bad for the meta

I remember people saying that the fastest way to get tokens was to let the player kill the hunted player quickly which I think was very true. Chasing the other player was very annoying sometimes especially if you were a low-level vs. high-level player.

I miss thing mini game, along with Stealing Creation. Loved both of them!

pretty sure the "old school feel" is not only out the window but totally baked in the sun by this point. the literal only thing old school about old school rs these days is literally the name and the graphics.

A couple years ago I visited this minigame on RS3 because it was the featured minigame of the week (or month? Can't remember). I was hoping for a nostalgia trip, I loved playing it around 2008. I was disappointed to find only people farming points huddled around the middle, not engaging in combat and getting angry when I tried to hunt my target. Jagex would have to make sure this doesn't happe for an OSRS version.

Nothing broken with any of these items, especially the skilling gloves. By the time you get a skilling glove it’ll probably take you anywhere from 3 to 5 hours (estimated)

I can't believe I forgot about that shield. It was so epic I don't even know if I ever got it.

I remember when I first played this way back when. I thought it'd be a great idea to stand in the center because I thought, "there's so many people stacked on top of each other, there's no way they can find my name and click on me!" but they could and they did and I rage quit and never tried it again lol

I loved playing this as Hunted. I can still remember my strategy. Run around the obstacles on the outskirts in max mage def till they caught me and spec’d to use the orb teleport to negate damage, then just spam click around center to keep moving. There were so many people in center so it was impossible to grab a right click. 9/10 games the hunter would leave.

So much nostalgia. I loved this minigame and only one i remember playing as f2p 12yo kid at library with friend.

If fist of guthix did come back I feel like it would benefit from expanding on typical pvp defense. Let attackers use melee/ranged, give the defender more food + brews and protection prayers. It also makes sense giving that the minigame gave coifs and gauntlets.

Definitely possible without summoning from helping kill little as two ticks, and tick eating items. The fog robes as nice bridge mid-game even with IM

I think adding this to the game would bring a bigger feel of old RuneScape than most updates in the game have been, inferno or the whole of kourend

If it improves the game I would say that these items are fine to add. that free to play has more stuff to work towards than back in 07 isnt bad. nostalgia is gone. there are very few players that would still get into the game because of their childhood memories. if it makes the new player experience better for actual new players then why not. Adjsutments can always be made ofcourse, like the free runes and rune saving ability of the robes.

They should release a weekly rota for the PvP minis and give a secondary currency for the rota to buy cosmetics and 3t training weapons (ex. swift blade,) or small amounts of gold or trouver parchments, animations.

I remember while being the hunted and higher levels than most f2p, I would kick the opponent and they would usually rage quit. Made farming tokens a lot faster

Bro, this game was my shit back in middle school. The rune berserker shield was the F2P defender but it was more of an accomplishment.

I doubt FOG would have an affect on rune economy. It'd be fun for a week but quickly turn into a dead minigame. It was only popular because the Runescape community was really big at the time and there wasn't a no-xp waste meta.

I keep begging for this game mode to come back. The only time i had fun with pvping. It was such a casual game mode

This minigame reward of dragon gauntlets was what I used because I didn't want to quest for barrows gloves.

Was really annoyed with runescape at the time due to the graphical update. But this minigame and the runecrafting one at the time made me keep playing a while longer. I don't really see the issue with these gloves causing an imbalance in skilling when there are way more broken things in the game. I was obsessed with how dragon slayer gloves looked. Nice overview it was very thoroughly explained.

If they bring it back to old-school I would get back into the game and f2p would get something cool for once

Back in the day when I would make a new account the first thing I would do is train Magic at FoG because it was free 😂

Some mistakes: Combat and Druidic robes were flipped, Battlemage robes were not f2p. Fist of guthix as f2p mage traing would only be really good between 1-55, as high alching can be profitable and will be more xp/h than using magic there. You have lots of dead time chasing, or waiting game to start or waiting to be killed.

I wish rs did a weekly rotating mini game of the day. With rewards you only get points doing that specific game on that day.

Combat was the grey and Druidic was the green robes.

I think this returning would just wind up being another soul wars where the nostalgia and hype dies off within weeks. At least the rewards in soul wars keep it relevant for irons, leagues and for cloggers/pet hunters. The rewards from this would have to be relevant for all accounts and builds for it to maintain popularity

Literally none of the original rewards are an issue if you make them untradeable.
