Is there a "Fit to Canvas" option in Photoshop? Of course, there is! But it's named differently. Learn how to automatically resize and fit images to canvas in Photoshop. In this tutorial, we'll explore ways to not only import, resize and fit your images to the given canvas automatically but also learn to fit canvas to the image! Looking at strategies to handle very huge images on a small canvas or vice versa, this video covers all you need to know about automatic and manual resizing in Photoshop.
Unlike other Adobe applications like InDesign, etc. Photoshop does not exactly have such an option that allows you to fit anything to canvas. However, there exists something very similar if you add the images a little differently. That's what we are going to talk about in this Photoshop tutorial. Hope this video helps you!

I know this is three years old but you just helped me enormously. Thank you. At about 6’20” you have a cropping solution that maintains aspect ratio of canvas. Will this work with a selection of linked layers also?

This still gives us no way to size an existing layer to the canvas. I've been searching for years and can't find a way to automate this. It's so dumb that in 2018 Photoshop cant size a layer to the canvas it resides in.

Although the dude is OK he does not read this comments.... In 2021 still no clue how to do such a way to size an image to canvas (After Effects has this for years) Final Cut has it's fill command. Frustrating 10 minutes....

I really love your videos and I watch them whenever I have a question because you explain things so clearly! One thing I'm really struggling with in relation to this video, is how to reduce the canvas size without cropping the image. And when I say image, I mean multiple layers that have already been edited. I accidentally edited something with a larger canvas than I needed. Now when I reduce the canvas to the size I need, the image is cropped and I've no idea how to make the edited layers just automatically fit the smaller canvas...if anyone can help me you'll save me having to pull my hair out!

I know this was one year ago but: 1. select the area you want to keep using the rectangle select tool (or whatever select tool you prefer) 2. go on "image" at the top of your screen 3. click crop

I'm a total newbie so just getting to grips with this. I want to produce 4 canvas sizes for a final image. How do I start? I'm confused as to what canvas size I have first, and when I am done editing/designing, do I have to go through the whole design process again for the other 3 canvas sizes, or is there a shortcut to take the final image I have done and put it into 4 different canvas sizes?
