Fitbod Review | Is Fitbod the Best Workout App with Ai?
In today's video we review Fitbod a very popular workout logger with built in Ai. Not only will it generate your workouts for you, but it will manage your training as a whole, and help keep you on track in achieving your goals. New to the gym and need some extra guidance? This app has you covered. By the end of my Fitbod review, you should have all of the information needed in order to make an informed decision on whether this is the workout logger for you.
I am not affiliated with Fitbod, nor has anyone at Fitbod approached me to review their product. The views and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

I've tried dozens, this one is my absolute favorite. Huge motivator for years now - set the "duration" to at-least 1hour 30mins because they often go faster, so this helps me hit about 45min at-least. I usually work on "recovered muscles" or manually select the 6-10 highest percentage muscles above 30% recovered - 5-6 days a week of workouts. I was first so out of shape I couldn't even do 5 pushups (gained 30lb of unhealthy fat working remote for 3 years / barely working out / mental burnout) - 3 weeks in I was able to hit 25 pushups - my back and hips feel way more stable with enhanced running performance too. It's crazy how much better your cardio gets focusing on the weights first.

So true! Thank you for sharing your experience! I can completely relate, and I too had shot up to 240 lbs in a short period of time after I had quit smoking years ago. Took a while but managed to get back down to 180 lbs while building some solid strength in the process! Many of these types of apps are overlooked or under-appreciated over the journey, and many fail because they have no way of tracking their progress not to mention many do not know where to even start. Spending a few bucks month on an app like Fitbod goes a long way, and is definitely worth the investment.

Always happy to watch your reviews. I used Fitbod on/off, but always no more than a month. My ultimate beef with it was how random a lot of my workouts start to become, especially after a week or two. You start getting weird numbers like 17 reps, or 21 reps. Also you’ll get a superset where one exercise gets 3 sets, the other 4. The UI is very fun to look at, good vibrant colors (especially since their last rebranding). But I’m still torn if I should come back to it or not.
@AJFaithFitness
@AJFaithFitness 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Dramatello! I agree Fitbod looks great visually, and is simple to use. Some interesting quirks you mentioned regarding the reps and supersets. I have noticed something similar with Alpha Progression on the reps, where the app will suggest you drop the weight and do some high rep counts. Not my favourite that is for sure. I have been bouncing between Alpha Progression and Gymaholic personally. I find Alpha Progression quite similar to Fitbod, however one thing I prefer about AP is that it generates a consistent workout plan from the start, with a duration based in weeks rather than Fitbod approach of generating a new workout every day or session. I have a trial code / 20% off affiliate link in my Alpha Progression video review if you are interested in having a look for free. Also you are able to create your own custom exercises while Fitbod does not. With that said, Fitbod is still an awesome app, and I may just revisit it myself one day to see how it's improving, and if it has the potential to become my daily driver in the gym.

@@AJFaithFitness thanks for the reply. was excited to look for the app you mentioned only to realize it doesn't have an Apple Watch app. to me that's an instant no no as I HATE having my iphone on me while working out. I need to clear my mind in the gym, and using my watch alone is super convenient. It's also what I love in Gymaholic as they have the most perfect intuitive apple watch UI you can get. you can literally add exercises mid-workout and all from the watch. anyways, thank you for the recommendation!

I hear you about the Apple Watch. That is huge for me as well, and I also agree with you on the apple watch version of Gymaholic. It is the most complete app I have found, and fits in well with Apple products. I like how it mirrors the built in workout app, where you can swipe left for your music, or right for your app options. I think the watch version is on Alpha Progressions radar, but I have no idea when. I will be keeping my eyes open for it though!

Very informative video AJ, thank you for that. I have a question: I'm thinking about whether I should get Fitbod or rather Alpha Progression, would then buy the Premium Version. Is Fitbod better than Alpha Progression in your opinion?
@AJFaithFitness
@AJFaithFitness 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Rainer. They are both rather cool apps, and it all depends what you are looking for from your app. If you want to leave the app generate a new workout every day, then Fitbod. If you would rather have the Ai generate the entire workout plan including how many weeks you wish to run that plan, then Alpha Progression. If you need to add a custom exercise not in the database, then Alpha Progression seeing Fitbod does not allow you to do this. I find Alpha Progression simpler than Fitbod as well, while Fitbod has been around much longer. It's a tough call. I would recommend signing up for a trial on both, Alpha Progression is 14 days I think, and Fitbod you can sign up for a month by contacting their customer service. Try them both and pick the one you prefer. I prefer Alpha Progression personally seeing it is cheaper, and simpler, and consistent across all platforms. Now if you like running workouts on the Apple Watch, then Fitbod all the way seeing there is no such option for Alpha Progression at the moment. If you do end up signing up for Alpha Progression and want an extra 20% off your first year, feel free to use my affiliate link below. The channel does receive a small commission if you sign up, but with that said it's up to you, and I tried to provide you with my unbiased opinion. I hope that helps Rainer! @AJFaithFitness
@AJFaithFitness Жыл бұрын
Both apps can assist you in building muscle, however the program, dedication and nutrition will be what determines the end result. AP also has bodyweight exercises within the app, and you can filter them in or out of your exercise selection. One advantage that AP has over FB is that you can create your own exercises in AP, while in FB what is in the app is all you get,

been trying fitbod on iphone and it has lots of missing exercises. For strengh trainning its ok since it generates workouts for me, since I like to lift 3x a week and do hitt and functional trainning workouts 2x a week.. For high intensity workouts it needs a lot of work. It seems that it only has dumbell and body workouts. and all the way to the bottom it only has 4 based equipment workouts, 30 min kettlebell workout, 30 min resistance workout, BOSU workout and a TRX workout..Whats the point of adding the equipment I have since it wont generate workouts for me based on that?? I have sledge hammers, punching bags, macebells, sandbags, slam balls, airdyne bike and many more equipment but not on app.
@AJFaithFitness
@AJFaithFitness 2 жыл бұрын
I agree with you Marco, an app that does not allow the user to add their own exercises makes it very limiting. For someone starting from scratch, and conforms their training to fit within the app is one thing. However a seasoned lifter that has been doing it for years, has his exercise selection down, and is unable to manipulate the app to fit their needs is a big issue. At this point in the game that type of lifter is not going to conform to an app just for the sake of using it, they will simply move onto an app that will fit their use case as one would do with any other tool. A hammer is great when performing some tasks, but its not the right tool to cut a sheet of plywood in half. Have you used any other workout trackers in the past that fit your use case better than Fitbod? Sounds like you are into strongman type of workouts, is that accurate or did I misread that? Take care and thanks for sharing your thoughts! 👊🏻👊🏻

@@futbol1972 Sounds like it! it sure is nice to have variety in ones fitness lifestyle to keep it all fresh and exciting. Doing the same thing over and over again and become boring. Finding an app that does all of that sure would be tricky. It's kind of like finding an all in one productivity app that does task, project management, note taking, calendaring, office suite etc. The app may be very strong in some of those areas, and weak in others, but never great in all. You may need to use multiple apps for different use cases and if using Apple Health, sync everything to that. For me I log all of my cardio using the apple workout app, yeah its pretty basic but I do not need very high details for cardio and the apple workout app built into my Apple Watch does the job. I then log my weight training using Gymaholic. Both sync to apple health, and all of my fitness and activity shows up in one place. It works for my needs.

hey I great vid! I wanted to know ur recommendation on a workout app at home? I only have resistance bands, 3 dumbbells and a yoga mat so I liked how easy it was to customise generated workouts based on my home gym ig. also as for nutrition, are there any apps as well to track and generate meal plans?
@AJFaithFitness
@AJFaithFitness 2 жыл бұрын
For nutrition, Lose it and My Fitness Pal do a decent job at this. I personally have not used any automated meal plans, and have not found an app that does this all that well, but I am sure there are some out there. As for Lose it and MFP, I believe there are meal plans available, but they were created by someone and don't have much customizability to them. As for workout loggers, Fitbod and Alpha Progression both do an excellent job at auto generating workouts based on your equipment profile. If that is what you are after then these apps are the apps to beat. There are several cheaper options out there if you would prefer to manually create and generate your own workouts. Hevy and Gymaholic both do a great job at this, plus Hevy has a built in social media component to it, similar to IG. You can check out my review videos on either of these apps as well. Both apps do an excellent job at automating progression. One drawback in Fitbod though is you cannot create any of your own exercises within the app, while Alpha Progression does. For me this is a very important feature for I do not want to be limited to an apps exercise library if I wish to try something that is not in the app. They are both solid apps, and both offer free trials. You should try them out together and see which one you like better, and which one fits you style better. For myself, Alpha Progression worked better. I have only tried Alpha Progression and Fitbod with official Ai features. I preferred the experience with Alpha Progression, as the programming the app generated felt more structured and I could look weeks ahead and know what was coming up. Fitbod would generate a random workout every time (or so it seemed for me at the time I tried it). Depending on your approach to training, you may prefer one over the other. I personally preferred AP, and the fact I could not add custom exercises to Fitbod was a deal breaker for me. This may have all changed since then as I have not looked at Fitbod in over two years.

is there a better app than fitbod?
@AJFaithFitness
@AJFaithFitness 2 жыл бұрын
That is a tough question, it all depends on what you wish to use the app for. If creating custom exercises and logging them is your goal, then every app I have reviewed on the channel thus far will do that with the exception of Fitbod. Hevy tends to be the app I recommend most to people, its one of the most useable free apps, has a very affordable yearly subscription, has a web browser version so you can setup your workouts on your computer, Apple Watch app as well so you can log sessions on the wrist, and a social media component so you can follow/be followed by likeminded individuals who are also into fitness. When creating exercises in Hevy, you can also assign your own exercise image to keep everything in the database looking consistent. I have noticed most apps don't allow for this, and what I do not like is when all custom exercises have some generic boring image mixed amongst the standard library. Gymaholic also has a great exercise creation option, and allows you to place your own exercise images, however this app is only available for Apple devices and not android. Strong is a fine option too, but honestly its more costly than Hevy, has less exercise selection, and the custom exercises don't look as nice. Not to mention it has broader muscle groups (Legs vs Quads, Calves, Hams, Glutes). If you love stats then StrengthLog is a great option, but the premium version can be pricey. I see powerlifters loving this app for its various tools available within the app. As for an app similar to Fitbod, which has gym profiles and Ai generated routine system, Alpha Progression would be a great alternative. It has many similarities to Fitbod, but their subscription is cheaper, and you are able to create your own custom exercises. You can also store all of your workouts into routines, and by weekly training blocks if you wish. You can create your own program, or have the app generate a complete routine, with training blocks, right from its Ai. I have reviews of each of these apps on my channel, feel free to have a look at those that interest you. So better than Fitbod? That is all up to what you are looking for. Hope this helps Marco!
