Don't worry Tim,me and dad put a brick fireplace in our last house and it was only after the cement set we found out a brick on the very first layer was wrong way round-smooth side to rear instead of front ! mum never let him forget it 😂😂😂 great looking back when neither are with us.

Ohhh nooo.. handle-less for the win! One thing we've found with the Cobham blue is it shows up kids handprints etc very well. Warm soapy water and towel dry and it'll be perfect again 😁

For my fridge surround (an LG American style fridge, with DIY kitchens 900 top box) I used 18mm thick fillers on either the side of the fridge (giving me verticals to end the plinth against) and 22mm thick fillers either side of the top box. This gave me a fridge opening of 908mm, which is exactly the width I needed. I mitred the 22mm filler around the top and bottom of the top box as well, just to make it look neat.

Yep that’s the route I’m looking at. Should have enough spare plinth that I can use at front to match colour and some other 18mm ply behind to pack out. 👍

It is annoying that no one seems to discuss this issue anywhere (that I could find) and you’re just left to work it out. Worse still, I couldn’t even plan ahead easily because the width I got from the LG website was 917mm, but it was actually the doors that were the widest point. So I only needed an opening of 907mm. To get a 917mm opening would have involved a more convoluted collection of fillers and I’d have still ended up with small gaps down the sides, so I’m glad it worked out how it did.

Great choice of the copper coloured handles against the blue cabinets, looks very good. Yes, Kreg do make a door handle jig, as I discovered after my kitchen fitter had put the handles on my new kitchen last year. And probably best to have used the same size handles for both drawers and doors! Once again, Jo's laugh is so infectious! 😂😂

If the DIY kitchen doors are anything like Howdens, on the inside of them there might be small dents for where to drill through for standard size handles, made it much easier for when i had a few doors to do! Loving the build👏

Make sure there’s a decent air gap above the fridge, they do run hot. To my eye it looks like you could squeeze a wine rack in below the top box to fill the gap.

I did a very similar jig when I did my kitchen, and used tape to cover the wrong holes too. Though I chose knobs to reduce complexity and measuring :) I clamped it with a backer block in each position too to prevent breakout on the back. I didn't have any plastic on my doors. On the island I have pan drawers either side of a slim drawer, I set the handles at different heights to keep them central to the rail or drawer face. Looks nice and symmetrical. For the fridge, We went with a 1000 top box and have

Excellent video showing a simple solution to the always fun handle attachment. With regards to the bridging unit. I agree that 2 x 18mm end panels should give you the perfect gap to then allow the F/F to sit neatly below. When we have fitted within housings before we’ve used a 1000mm bridging into which then gives you a nice shadow gap around the F/F. I think the 2 end panels will see you right though. 👌🏻💪🏻

Maybe recess LED lights around the gap and make a wine rack for the space between the press and fridge. I believe they make them 900 to suit in built fridges. You may need to request the oversized to suit American style fridges.

DIY kitchens would have made the cupboard any size you need. I have a cupboard that's 365mm deep so I could lose a gap. Looking good anyway and you will not go wrong with DIY kitchens mine is 7 years old and as good as the day I fitted it.

Hafele do a fully adjustable handle jig. I've used it on 2 kitchen installs, and it's fairly foolproof. It's not idiot proof though - it didn't stop me drilling the holes on the hinge side of the door
@ewanbruce7026
@ewanbruce7026 Жыл бұрын
Yup - know that one! Had to replace the door! I now put a piece of masking tape on the corner of each door where the handle is to go. Also helps for getting the right corner if you lay the door flat to drill. Especially when you're doing several doors and someone interrupts you part way....

Anywhere there is an exposed side of a unit would normally have an end panel to match the drawer/door fronts even if it's not particularly visible.

Just a couple of questions about making the jig. How did you cut it to exactly the rail width, was it bandsaw or circ saw and router say??? Also how did you get the centre points of the handles ie did you put the handle on the centre line and physically mark??? Did you drill the holes out on a a drill press??? I guess a dowel pin would work for registering the circles. I think because you have done so many it has become second nature but there are a few core woodworking skills at play here.

Just scrap but on the mitre saw then measured centres with a steel rule. No need to use anything other than a handheld drill on thin MDF but might have if 18mm to keep square. 👍

One tip to stop the jig moving after drilling the first hole is to stick one of the handle screws through, therefore holding it in exactly the right place whilst you drill the second hole.

Guys, you both look tired and DIY'd up to the eyeballs, and rightly so. Take a break and come back rejuvenated with a fresh set of eyes. I understand you're keen to move your lovely family on site permanently and it will be nice to not have the rented accommodation (I'm assuming) outgoings. I also understand this is probably a significant income stream but none of that is worth running yourselves into the ground, your health is more important. Love your videos.
