And this is on both sides, people who like the game thinking someone saying its not for them is calling the game terrible and people who don't like the game calling a game objectively bad. Also what people consider terrible. Me and my friend go "dumpster diving" every so often and play actual shovelware, most of the "worst games ever" in peoples heads are actually mediocre at worst. I've played legitimate 1s or 2s out of 10, the games that literally don't start or the controls just don't work.

i always take that as a sign of emotional immaturity. no problem with that but it takes some self work to realize that your taste isn't reflective of anything except of what you like.

RE7 was very scary, though more creepy and cringe horror from all the gore. The part where you're locked in that room made me damn near give up on the game because I couldn't stop cringing away. One of the few truly great horror games to come out in the last decade

I wanted to love Inquisition and look past its faults like I did with DA2, but I just cant. The open world and mmo-like mechanics put me off the game completely. Once I was done with the main quest I did some of Hakon and never continued further. I didn't touch The Descent and Tresspasser. I was hoping to wait it out where I forgot what happened mostly in the game but EA firing all Bioware veteran devs snuffed out all hopes of me coming back to it again. Maybe someday, but not now.

@@paulnavales6469 It's a slow trog, but I like it way more in comparison to DA2, and I believe they were on a better track, but should've tried to get closer to DA:O in terms of mechanics and world building. EA is the spawn of all evil, unfortunately, but I'll still continue to support the devs and artists that really deserve the support!

I loved Inquisition. I loved Origins. Two different playstyles, both great games.

@@paulnavales6469 I actually really enjoyed the MMO elements they added to it, I just didn't like the massively open maps that you had to traverse at a snails pace or the pretty terrible story. The first time I beat the game, i thought the ending was the mid way point, I was so confused when the credits started rolling.

Two Worlds 2 is a decent game with one of the best magic system that i have ever seen in a videogame.

It wasn’t bad at all. It could have been a bit better story wise but other than that it was a fun solid game. I wish the main character was alive in the dlc and you play a big fight at the end where he eventually loses like in halo reach. Make his sacrifice at the end of the main game mean something instead of being torn apart off screen

I also agree. I have never played the dead space series before diving into Callisto so i didnt have any expectations at all. Actually i wasnt a game i looked especially forward to and only got i because i could and because i am making a Playthrough channel. But when i finally got into the game. Wauv i actually think it was good .

I maybe biased as I consider it to be the best DA game yet... But even if you don't like it just on technical level it is certainly better than DA 2 (compared to it's era of course) and certainly was at least an average to good game. Haters going to hate I guess.

@@matebakk5187 Agreed. Personally, it's my favorite one out of the series. I love how customizable the party can be, and I'm a sucker for that stuff. So I agree Origins is probably "more important" but Inquisition just hit for me really hard. And the DLCs are fantastic.

I do think it's a shame that you assume that people call it "bad" purely because they want to be contrarian. Clearly this is not the case. I recently (two months ago) played it for the first time, and I ended up putting 65 hours into it. If I wasn't willing to give the game a fair chance, I wouldn't have put that time into it. But despite putting my best foot forward, I have to say that I personally found it to be a really awful game. If I was just a hater with a predetermined opinion, I wouldn't have bothered with finishing the game like I did. The only reason I finished the game is so that I could wrap it up and form a coherent opinion of it on my own. I think you'll just have to accept that there are many people who genuinely do not like this game. I think being a contrarian and hating the game for the sake of it is honestly just as bad a rejecting other people opinions offhand because you can't believe there are people who just didn't get the enjoyment out of it you did. That's just not fair and not productive. You also claim that it is wild that such a successful game can now be considered "bad". That's honestly not wild at all. Many games are successful commercially and critically while still being very divisive. Just take DA2 for example. That did pretty well with critics and sold quite well too. But it was almost instantly maligned by fans upon its release. It's not that uncommon at all. Or take Monster Hunter World. That's one of Capcom's best selling games of all time, was critically acclaimed, and is hated with a passion by a significant portion of the fanbase (I do not agree with that, but I cannot take away their right to their own opinions). Sony dropped Demon's Souls and didn't even want to publish it outside of Japan because executives thought it was an awful game, but it became an instant cult classic upon release and is now part of a series of some of the most popular games in video game history. These things happen all the time.

Agreed. I don't care what game it is, what the reception is, or what era it's from. As long as the product in question is not legitimately problematic, harmful and/or disgusting, I just play and experience what makes me happy. If I enjoy something, I enjoy it. If I don't, I don't. If people can't accept that, that's their problem. Everyone has their preferences and while everyone is free to criticize, and point out legitimate issues, everyone also has a right to how THEY feel about a game. And that shouldn't be taken away.

I got it for free with PS+ and decided to try it out. I was pleasantly surprised. My only complaint was that enemies got a bit repetitive.

For PC*. Not excusing the launch, but on PS5 it ran perfectly. Makes me think they designed it mainly for the PS5. I personally quite enjoyed it, it had its problems but people had massive unmeetable expectations on the face of it. The only real wish I had for it was more deep diving into the story. It had a ton of allusion to greater things, but it didn't expand on really any of them (except for the virus origins.)

It's the same thing with Saint's Row: Self Made ecru it had a lot more going against it when it comes to its controversies. A shame since the game was never that bad to begin with either.

It doesn't help either that this came out a month before the Dead Space remake launched, which was what the creators of this worked on before leaving EA .

if you go into the game files on pc and rename ghost and niobe's character files to neo and trinity, it swaps out their character models and you can play as the main characters instead. always the first thing i do haha.

Hell yes! I adore that game. Some of my fondest gaming memories are from my first Akumu difficulty playthrough. The sequel is also great for different reasons but I don't have the desire to replay it as often as the first game and its DLCs.

@@matebakk5187 I recently replayed Planescape for the first time in a very long time (I usually have a very good memory when it comes to video games so I tend to wait long times between replaying), and it completely holds up 100%. Since it's primarily a story-driven game, and the writing is still much better than what you'd find in most modern games, it really hasn't aged at all. And the places you visit or so unique and atmospheric, nothing really comes close honestly. Tides has some redeeming qualities, but ultimately it is a failure I believe. I don't really compare it to Planescape because the games honestly have almost nothing in common. You can certainly see that the game tried, but it's also clear that it just didn't receive nearly enough love from the developer. It needed a lot more time in the oven IMO.

Replayed Andromeda last year, to platinum it Had an amazing time. Better than my first playthrough. Expectations play a huge factor, so it seems

Have you tried Wanted: Dead? Its got Alpha Protocol energy, charmingly bad voice acting and the writing feels like a 7 year old explaining a dream they had.

I was on the DA2 hate train when it first launched, since it wasn't DA:O anymore. But years later coming back to it I really came to love it. The dialogue and banter in particular is just so great to listen to.

2 has the best characterr writing and has unique character skills too. Character writing is usually superior to world writing to me too.

Great characters, great themes, and I loved the introduction of cross-class combos. Did I miss the tactical, top-down camera and crisp companion flowcharts of DA:O? Yes. But Dragon Age 2 did more interesting things with the narrative than Origins, even though no one can accuse Origins of being bland either.

DA2 is good, its main problem is how rushed it was. The amount of asset reuse detracts from what is otherwise a great game. Imo DAO > DA2 > DAI. Not that DAI is _bad,_ but the constant "bring me 20 bear asses" single-player-MMO-style fetch quests rubbed me the wrong way.

While Dragon Age 2 has a lot of flaws, and that dev time they were given is just staggering, it still one of my favorite gaming experiences. To me, the biggest thing with, aside from the crunched dev cycle, is that it was just at least a decade ahead of its time with what it was trying to do and the story it told. Which I think is reflected on how massively the response to it and how it is discussed has changed over the years. Also, not only is the character gallery it creates magnificent, but I still count three antagonists from that game among the best I've encountered in gaming. Finally agreed on the Hinterlands as I would argue that it was the sole location in DAI where the story conflict actually felt realized in the area. This was due to their open world/exploration approach which meant that the locations had to be separated from the central storylines, which led to a weird sense of detachment between exploration and the main story.

This kind of stuff is fun to discuss, but online discourse on games usually devolves into something else.

I love some of the companions and can't stand others. With that said, my main issue is that your character just feels like too much of a wallflower when you are surrounded by so many characters with huge epic backstories.

Finished that game before dlc's released with almost 100% achievements... Barely remember a thing about it and not one character was memorable aside from the scientist who finds you and even then I forgot his name.

I really liked the more focused setting of DA2, although i'll admit it is a little too copy-paste; and sank a load of hours into inquisition back when it released as a housemate owned it. never had a bad time with either

i like outer worlds w/ what they added w/ the skill system to how useful companions are; great gameplay, story i didn't find interesting, but still has the Obsidian writing of being able to have a choice. w/ Starfield reception it's more likely everyone is excited for TOW2

There can be heavy bias though. It's hard to determine what actually is an issue and what is hyperbole.

Starfield is a good game at $35 and you'll get some enjoyment out of it. It is awfully mediocre at $70. For me, I played for 20 hours and then just never felt the want to pick it up again. I did enjoy my 20 hours though.

I agree around the $40 range would be fair in its current state, but I am hopeful for when they finally release the modding tools so we can see what the modding community can potentially do to turn Starfield into a truly great game.

i had 100 hrs in Starfield. i keep itching to want to play it but i just havent come back to it yet. think because i know its one that requires alot of time to just stick to it to get the best experience and i keep hopping around to different games. I want to get back into it though, i enjoyed my time with it. Think I also feel like i would want to start over which is what keeps me from picking up where i left off. i want to remember what all i was doing before so i think it just requires full focus when playing it. i do this with too many games and end up not finishing them lol

@@HeezyfoCheesy I can sympathize. I can't tell you the number of times I've gotten 3/4 of the way through a game, decide to take a break, and don't come back to it for quite some time, if at all.

It's like they never finished it. Your choices don't matter, ends abruptly (although I haven't played the dlc after original ended). I would recommend Mass Effect Andromeda over Outer Worlds.

I couldn't get into that game for the longest time, tried numerous times but couldn't do it. Before Elden Ring released I decided I was finally going to beat it as it was the only FromSoft game I never completed and finally ended up enjoying my time with it. Ended up playing through it a few times.

I think DS2 is a much better game than DS1 and I can’t fathom why people say it isn’t.

Same here it has the best atmosphere beautiful high fantasy world, some very unique armors and weapons too. My favorite in the series.

I'm currently replaying Outer Worlds and I'm enjoying it. However, the reason why I was disappointed in the game is because New Vegas showed us Obsidian can do better in certain aspects. Mostly with the perk system, armor and weapon variety. The perk system is very uninspired and are mostly just flat increases. Compare that to New Vegas and you had a whole array of interesting perks for roleplaying. The armor and weapon variety was also very lacking. Meanwhile New Vegas has one of the best weapon variety in it's genre.

I thought Mass Effect Andromeda is the closest thing to Outer Worlds. Both mid.

Yeah the fact that you go to the Hinterlands just to leave immediately when in previous BioWare games the idea was you’d go somewhere and do everything before leaving and never going back was a very strange choice.

They shot themselves in the foot, yeah. They should've shown the big map, then have an event steer you away much more prominently.

Its a bad game.

It wasn't that players put the bar too high. The marketing and the early reviews all shilled the game as the 2nd Coming of New Vegas, and it was FAR from that. The devs overhyped and the press oversold, so the backlash was inevitable. And I too, am a TOW enjoyer. I like the game. I hope TOW2 lives up to its potential.

It’s mainly just Origins purists or people looking to hate on BioWare that call it bad. It has its flaws but overall it’s a good game for sure.

My dad and I played together when it came out. We had a blast and I was surprised to learn most people didn't like it. Looking back now, I can see its obvious flaws, but the good memories are forever.

I plan on giving it a shot sometime, can you elaborate on how to get the most out of it with the hinterlands stuff? I've heard multiple people mentioning it but they don't go into detail

@@fatbroccoli8 So, the game is segmented into large open areas on a world map. The Hinterlands is the first stop and gives you a few ''main quests to handle'', but it's also packed with lots of busy fetch quests etc and other ''main quests'' that can keep you there for a while. My advice is that you definitely don't need to do much if any of the side stuff and just clear stuff that's clearly main quest objectives and dip out. Once you do the overarching quest opens up and you have a lot more places you can visit to further advance main quests and recruit more characters etc, which is the real meat of the game along with gearing characters and assigning builds etc. DA:I is a game with a very flawed opening act, but it has tons of systems to interact with, many of which have meaningful payoffs. If you've never played any of the other games in the series you'll miss out on call backs and cameos, but it genuinely doesn't impact the experience because regardless of knowing these things or not, the game will catch you up to speed. Overall, if you're a fan of any of Bioware's games, Inquisition is a genuinely great game in their portfolio. It has fun character progression, a pretty large cast of companions that all want different things regarding the plot and your choices do have pretty impactful outcomes on how things play out. It was hindered on release due to its opening act and likely due to open world fatigue, but it's absolutely an experience worth having if you've played a Bioware game before or even something adjacent. PS: It's one of those games that time really favored. Sort of like the Witcher 2, which now gets far more love than it did before Witcher 3 really showed that CDPR could cook ya know. PSS: As it is a Bioware game, doing companion quests are obviously incredibly important. Some of the best moments in the game come from them honestly, it's great. Hope this helps you decide one way or the other :)

I really hate the argument that whether things are good or bad is subjective, what's subjective is if you like it or not, I think people only say that because they're defensive over what they like, ofc it's not that black and white but what about 'Anthem'? An objectively shit game that some people liked but that doesn't make it good (I'm one of those people who liked it btw but I still know it's bad lol)

It was really fun and could've been great if they knew what they were doing, I even liked the campaign and the npc's, such a shame, imagine that combat and traversal in a mass effect world

I think what it boils down to is expectations. I haaaaated Fallout 4 but it's a me issue, I was coming in fresh from FNV and I have come to recognize that many things were done right in that game (like gunplay), but those were the bits I didn't care about, while the bits I did care about (like writing) were basically afterthoughts. Ultimately, if you come in with high expectations you made for yourself, it's on you. However, if the *company* set up these expectations, as in the case of Starfield, it's absolutely on them.

Callisto Protocol seems to be particulary polarising game. I've seen people place it both as the best and as the most dissapointiong or worst game of 2022.

Callisto was an ok game. I think everyone should play it once. It is unfortunate that it died because it was the closest thing to dead space we ever got
