In this video, I do my first overnight "simulated survival" challenge. With only five tools, I try my best to meet the four main goals of wilderness survival - fire, shelter, water, and food, all in an unknown location and against challenging weather and temperatures.
I get out in the bush on my first "simulated survival" challenge meant to test my wilderness survival and film making skills in a realistic scenario I could run into in my day to day life. This time I set myself up as if I were going on a hare hunting trip with only the essentials - my knife, flint and steel kit, canteen and cup, shotgun, and snowshoes, and had gotten lost leaving me with no choice but to do an impromptu overnight camp. My challenge was to meet the four main requirements of wilderness survival - fire, shelter, water, and food, all while filming it as if it were one of my normal backcountry videos. With cold temperatures, sparse game, and unpredictable weather, this was quite a fun challenge to do, but definitely took it's toll due to the film work required.

Disclaimer:
This is a controlled simulated survival challenge. To ensure my safety, the general area I had walked into was known by family and friends with a set time I was expected back, and with me I had brought my GPS, Spot beacon, medical kit, and extra survival gear. This video is not a survival guide and is made for personal documentation and entertainment purposes only.
