got an 03 with a little over 600,000 miles on it and i found out that the little pieces that connect the linkage to the latches are plastic and dry out and break over time , thus falling out of the end latches when dropped (like we all do with our tailgates) but ebay has the replacement kit for eight or nine dollars and it's am easy swap. good thing about dodges...................................easy to repair. bad thing about dodges......................................... body parts seem to need repair a bit more often than others. but it might be me with the super high milege

True, I enjoy working on my Dodge Ram, it's pretty easy and forgiving. Extremely reliable truck. I ended up replacing the tailgate because it was so rusted out.

@@marenothecarguy8361 i work on my neighbors last two ford vans for them(being elderly) and they are getting more and more difficult to sort issues out on . definitely not DIY friendly. the old dodge i have is the exact opposite . maybe the newer models are more difficult but mine has been both extremely reliable and simple to service and repair when needed.
