Thank you for this educational video. I'm glad Dyson had the forethought to make the assembly serviceable. It would be far cheaper for them to just glue it all together. I love our Dyson vacuum.

Thank you for this video, I had no idea I could do this. My dyson is 6 years old, so out of warranty. I had no qualms about pulling it apart. It was very easy. I even did it with my toddler "helping". It didn't look as bad as this vacuum but it was gunky and was definitely the source of the funky pet store smell! Also, for the naysayers here... I clean my cannister regularly and it does still get gross.

If worse comes to worse and the smell does not come out, disassemble everything. Separate the gaskets screws from the plastic components. Fill a 5 gallon plastic pail close to full of cold water. Add some vinegar to the water solution. Immerse the plastic parts in the solution and let sit submersed in the water for at least a week. Remove it from the solution. Fan dry the components in a garage on the rack making sure its fresh air, and the smell should be gone

Thanks for showing this. It is exactly what I was looking for as I just purchased the same machine and only used it six times. I cleaned it after each use and never came close to filling the canister to the max line. I noticed a lot of dust was able to be tapped out of the machine and wondered just how much more was in there. This clearly shows what is getting past those fine metal screens as they get clogged very quickly when using the machine. This does not make me feel very confident in Dyson's design. Fist of all it's made of plastic. Any air rushing over plastic will create static electricity to which dust will stick. What bothers me is just how much gets by the filter screens! I believe that taking this apart after several uses to clean will eventually end up in something breaking or getting damaged to end up in costly repairs. I will never buy another Dyson or any plastic bagless vacuum again.

Hard to believe since there are basically millions of people using it successful, also a lot of demos and reviews and tests that clearly shows it works fine, the fact that there is some dust inside doesn't mean anything, is normal, any vacuum will have dust inside. if your claims were true then Dyson should be out of business long time ago.
@silvernight3428

I can't believe they've created something where all the dust gets stuck, and if you follow this complicated procedure to retrieve it, you void your warranty? Capitalism. Are they hoping we will keep tap tapping away until we accidentally break the plastic canister or have to replace it? Every time I empty the bin, I have to clean dust off the rubbers and I've been looking at the dirt under the rubber wondering what I've done. It doesn't just fall out and not look dirty like in Dyson's "maintenance" video. I had no idea the seals came off until now. This makes me lose trust in Dyson's honesty. Such a quality product with replaceable parts, and yet THIS part is doomed? Is this the filter (as the blue part is the washable "pre-filter"?

Hope this can help someone: clean them with water before total disassembly first. I have the corded uprights. I take the filters out of them (I have had 3 different models over 16 years (1 new and others thrift shopping) and the filter placement on them differs). Anyway, remove the filters-(look at a diagram if you have to and then double check again) and then take the clear bin off (there is a lever on most all of them to take the bin off once it has been emptied and left open). Next, take it on the porch and hose it out or take it in the shower, invert it and basically fill it with water and swish it around. Empty the water out and do it 2-3 more times until the water runs out clean. Works great for me (even with sheetrock dust). I have never had one smell after doing this occasionally once or twice a year. It will bring out all that gunk you see in the video without disassembling it entirely. I leave it out to dry in the sun if its a nice day or near the heat in some way to let it dry and periodically shake and rotate it to make sure there are no errant water drops collecting because of the way I have it positioned while it dries. The only time I had an issue is when I didn't realize there was a filter in the 14 on the top of the unit instead of on the bottom like my other one. Once it dried, it smelled horrible-i removed it immediately once I realized what I did and tried everything I could think of to get the smell out. No luck, I did have to get a new filter in that case, but that fixed the smell and I never made that mistake again!!! My 10 year old animal 07 fell over a few years ago and broke the main upright piece that holds the hose, while the vac shop was waiting for the parts to come in, they disassembled it and were amazed at how clean it was inside, so I took that to mean it was a good maintenance routine). I would be interested to see if 850Red would try that for a period of time and disassemble it to see how well it did with his canister. The cordless ones are a different story b/c the motor is hooked to the top, and I am assuming you cannot invert them without getting the motor wet...too chicken to try it with my in laws cleaner b/c I don't want to be buying them a new one-LOL. I still wash them by turning them on their side and making sure the water runs out the bottom away from the motor and that has been fine so far..

This is a bit much to go through for cleaning your vacuum so maybe consider a different type of canister vacuum that doesn't need as much effort to take apart but I do believe that all canister vacuums need to be cleaned regularly. No bag doesn't mean they don't need cleaning.

The infamous Dyson Cinetic system of my vacuum got completely clogged in just three times of use and as I've been researching this issue is common on this Brand. Trying to fix it is totally impractical because as you see in this video its design does not allow to disassemble the unit at all. It is a better idea not to buy this item and if you already did it return it before use.

@vacuumtests9225
@vacuumtests9225 4 жыл бұрын
@@vforvendetta6193 Pro tip: Never buy a bagless vacuum. Why? They are messy to empty, they need constant maintenance, cyclones get very dirty after first use and most importantly they have much less power than the bagged vacuums (cyclones steal huge amount of airflow). Best bagged vacuums don't really lose suction when the bag fills up and bag change is needed only once a month. All bagless vacuums are waste of time. Too much trouble to keep them running.

I don't bother with this ,Just put the whole canister into a sink of laundry detergent and warm water for about two hours flush and then put the whole canister back into a full sink of water with some vinegar and then I blow dry with a Leaf blower and then in the hot water cupboard to dry for a couple of days and that's It like new again.

Excellent video .... very thorough demonstration. My Dyson is now sparkling and smelling like new! 🤩 Just as an aside: I noticed on the trapdoor flap that you open to empty out the dirt, dirt also gets trapped under the rubber where the hose attaches. I unscrewed then eased off the rubber seal and cleaned this as it also smelled! Thank you so much for taking the time to dismantle, video and upload! I for one am very appreciative! 🤗

I would not recommend dismantling the cyclone unless for experimental purposes. As you open up and close the cyclone after, you might not have done it properly so the air will leak and suction will drop. Workers at Dyson factory are trained to do this but not for laymen. This cyclone should not be caked in dust like this. The bin's gotta be emptied after every use and should never pass the MAX line. Improper care??
