Man you turn it away but it keeps my shop profiting 7 figures. You get that engine tore most of the way down and you upsell front and rear seals. Customer gets a car ready to go another 200k miles and you get to bank that money. You do such a good job they come back when they need oil changes. They come for brakes, bearings, and other easy stuff. I knew there were problems at dealer shops when warranty cars started coming in with customers willing to pay just to not have to take it to the dealer. Those repairs for getting stop leak out arent cheap. But when they are done the customer has a vehicle that wont leave them on the side of the road. You are pretty smart. If you ever think of moving hit me up. Ive never had any techs leave my shop. That should tell you all you need to know.

I'd have to agree. I wouldn't touch it after that stop leak was put in. It just creates a huge mess in the cooling system that isn't worth dealing with.

Stop leak never works no matter the circumstances it’s better to get extra fluid that the leaks out: I example car leaks transmission fluid get extra transmission fluid for what the car takes but for cvts if it’s not the same type of cvt fluid it’s not moving an inch

That stop leaks wasn't made modern day cars. But I also think that people buy theses stop leaks products and don't follow the instructions on the bottle. They end of adding to much. Its work a lot better, if they drained all the old coolant out and flush the system out. Then remove the thermostat add stop leaks product into bucket and add water and then pour it into the radiator and once the engine warm up. Then go on a test drive and check for leaks. If it works, flush the system, replace the thermostat and add new coolant into the system.

@calebjackson4708
@calebjackson4708 Жыл бұрын
It wont. Problem is the customer never knows where the leak was.. just that they had a leak and used stop leak. When you flush this crap out with CLR you will find where the leak was. Many times it is a head gasket and the head is warped. This is also caused because they put stop leak in when the water pump is leaking and it seals the water pump seal and seals the outlet partly to the water pump. Now you have all sorts of damage from prior overheats. This is why you have to replace many parts and check the heads for damage and replace most of the gaskets. If you flush and only replace the leaky part you will have a customer who keeps coming back blaming all other issues on you.

GM puts stop leak pellets from the factory and recommends adding them again when the system is flushed. It's not a risk, it's a $$ maker. Sell them a new motor, engine rebuild, ... and it can be flushed out. Regardless there's a repair waiting to be done. $$

@@Broman-es4sxproblem is….customers refuse to take responsibility for anything. They will call their credit card company trying to reverse the charges and if it is American Express they will do it every time. Believe me, I am well aware that there are many crooked shops and techs out there but there are far more customers trying to cheat the shop then the reverse. We have to operate like we are lawyers. In the end it’s just not worth it to try and do the cheaper repair option to help someone out. My 2 cents worth. It’s a bandage to get you to a repair shop. I think todays alloys used is a recipe for disaster, composites, aluminum, cast iron causes a mirage of heat differences that wont allow even set up times. Customer needs to know even after a few flushes there still some left behind. Anyone ever hear of old guys using raw eggs and black pepper? Those same guys would use sawdust to quiet gears then sell asap!

I wonder if some people are using too much of it perhaps a bad brand. or perhaps where the leak was located. It was a chance I took but yeah I never noticed any issues.

Id be pissed if a pro mechanic used stop leak on my car! That being said, I had a tiny coolant leak on a project car due to bad machining/fitup, and I didnt have the time to take things apart and go to the machine shop. I poured a bottle of K-Seal, said a prayer to the mopar gods, and kept driving it. This was almost 2 years ago, and there is not one drop of coolant leaking, and it maintains the right temp no matter what. I wouldn't use it on a newer or more valuable car though.
