My wife bought that exact saw for me at a yard sale several weeks ago for $15.00 . Had to put a new carb and lines in it. The carb was a Hipa replacement one. Not an exact fit due to its throttle linkage setup. But manageable. Runs fine now. Good video

@@HomeGaragechannel great video. I would like to know what oil you can use in the 2 stroke chainsaw because I'm having a really hard time finding some decent 2 stroke motor oils for my 2 stroke generator at a point that I'm currently using Motul mineral 15w40 and any straight grade Sae 40 mixed with gasoline at the same proportion. Not the best thing to do but apparently it works, a little bit of visible smoke.

Nice repair as always, it’s amazing what a spark plug clean can do, checking gapping is important too. Love the spark plug tester. I’m assuming the oil bar was oiling the chain, that little hole can get blocked with saw dust, another thing is importantly it doesn’t leak oil. Have a nice Easter😀🇦🇺

In my dads Honda GX35 4 cycle powered line trimmer I had to replace the spark plug because it was playing up like that, the plug was actually shorted out internally by a few thousand Ohms. When I did a small automotive course at tech once they explained why they check the spark plugs for spark in a vacuum chamber after sandblasting them, it's because as in your case it might not fire in the combustion chamber despite firing on the tester under no vacuum. The vacuum chamber simulates the combustion chambers environment !

I’ve found over time that when things go wrong it’s generally user related. Yes quality and manufacturing isn’t what it used to be in this disposable society we live in today. If we take a few minutes to actually read the manual re the use and storage, our equipment will always work and not let us down. Just my opinion.

I tried building the original carb and the got a new one. It would run until I started opening the extra butterfly and then it'd lean out. I had a new plug in it too but the son-in-law said he got it running but he sure scarfed up the 261 as it went by. I'll never understand why they have that carb setup anyway but it's gone and I grin every time I think about it being somewhere else. Glad you got it fixed. Blessings!

PP4218 chainsaw you will either love or hate it. Speaking of spark plug, make sure you set the gap to .030" instead of factory setting .025 gap. These model are notorious for not starting after warm up and usuage due to spark plug issue. Also sometime they can be finicky with Champion spark plug, NGK spark plug do work well. If you have a good one, it can a real ripper.

The only problem I have had with my Craftsman chainsaw is the rotting fuel lines. This was caused by using ethanol gas. After replacing the lines, all I have used is non-ethanol gasoline, I don't even bother to empty the tank. It cranks after sitting for 2 years or more. I just shake it to mix the oil and gas again. Have good days!

Today I picked up an old Snapper snowblower from the repair shop that my first job was at. So I got it to my place and gave the carburetor a good cleaning. This saw is based on the HQ240/236/235 series. It actually has a better carb than the real deal. The low compression is most likely caused by the 2 plastic inserts in the cylinder along with a bad piston ring. The cylinders are usually in very nice condition still. Example: 574 19 09-01. Be sure to select the correct one depending on cubic inches.

@@HomeGaragechannel your welcome. I think the fine tipped electrode produces a very hot and reliable spark initiating a faster and more complete combustion. I do know is they are faster to start, quick acceleration from idle to top end. All around just alot better especially with lower compression engines. Can't go wrong with Bosch iridium spark plugs. Two cycle and four cycle. My sports car has noticeable power and torque gains in all five gears.

Once it hits 60-70 it is really not hard at all to replace old rings with new ones. Never hurts to clean out the exhaust ports while you're doing this too. I have a 2 cycle lawn boy from 1984 I have rebuilt a few times. Still love cutting grass with it. They just don't make like they used to anymore. Sadly i am on my last set of rings. Can't seem to find any more new ones online anywhere. Maybe ill get lucky and see a set online in the next few years.

Your missing step one taken the muffler off... and checking the condition of the cylinder and piston!! I wouldn't even bother working on thoses brand of chainsaws waste of time and effort and plus money for parts that's just me... good videos thought..

@Home Garage the only difference between yours and mine is that yours is a PP4218AVX and mine is a PP4218A. The carb on yours is identical to mine. I have a KZfaq channel. I have a video about the chainsaw.
