Just wanted to say "Thanks." My Think Gizmo Portable Ice Maker seemingly had died. I opened it up, checked it all out, and couldn't find the problem. After watching your video, I checked the switches and discovered the little metal bar on one of them had broken off. Spent a few bucks at Amazon to get new switches and it's all back up and running. Appreciate you sharing your knowledge!

Thank you for putting up this video and providing the know-how to fix this problem (micro switch replacement). You have saved me from buying another icemaker at $99.00. I had to get 10 of the switches from Amazon to use 1, but hell it was a lot cheaper fix than a new icemaker. I am a neanderthal when it comes to computer stuff, but I can still look up stuff that I need help with. I am just glad there are good people like yourself that take the time out of their lives to put this kind of information out there. These fixes really help on a fixed income (no pun intended, just reality). PS: Just for shits and giggles, I waited until the ice tub was full before I did this reply. Just to be sure you know. Thanks again.

Thanks so much for posting your video! This is exactly what my office's Igloo countertop ice maker has been doing. I have applied the hack of holding the "Select" button down for 10 seconds to bypass the state of that switch, but we now have to be careful to make sure that it does not overflow. I am pretty good with a soldering iron, so I may give your repair method a try. Will Snyder

My issue ("add water" light always on even when full of water) turned out to be gunk that had plugged up the rubber water feed line that goes from the pump to the outlet where the tray gets filled up. One I took that apart and cleaned out the black goop it was as good as new. (I'm on well water and since there is no chlorine gunk can build up after a while).

So a follow up on the micro switch replacement. It functioned as it should for about another year and then the icemaker quit. Both switches were still functioning properly as best I could tell, but it stopped making ice. A thorough cleaning and still nothing. So we purchased another one. This lasted a year and the same position switch failed. I don't remember where I put the remaining 9 switches I got off of Amazon from 2 years ago, so the snipe hunt has commenced. Argggh! (EDIT) FOUND THE BAG of SWITCHES! Swapped out the switch and things seem to be functioning properly again. Thanks again for the "fix it yourself" information and video. What should I check into if the maker is overproducing ice? The model that I am looking at has a probe just level with the top of the ice bucket. It is located on the back wall of the bucket compartment, before the area that the maker and shovel are located. I believe that it is probably a sensor that is malfunctioning, or dirty. I can’t find any vids pertaining to that specific problem. Do you have any suggestions?

I have the same ice maker but it's labeled Magic Chef. We made the mistake of not draining the water after use but still used it every day. After We cleaned it the rotating reservoir only fills 1/4 of the way. Is it possible to knock the filling stream of water out of alignment while cleaning? I'm looking for the exploded parts drawing if you have a source. At $89 it's has paid for it's self already so i'm not sure it's worth the trouble.

Very helpful tutorial! Thank you. I tested the two micro switches on my ice maker with a multimeter, and they work fine. The water pump works fine, but water doesn't go into the ice forming tray, into the water reservoir instead. No leaking. The problem with my ice maker is that there is no water in tray; hence, there is no ice. Having opened the lid, I realized the ice forming tray doesn't catch water from the intake valve. How do I fix it! Appreciate all your helps.

@14Vern4 жыл бұрын
I really appreciate you for your time and expertise. I am going to give this a try, but since the replacement switch has 3 pins and not 2, how do you attache the wires? Which pins do I use?
@Blazfros4 жыл бұрын
Starting where the lever attaches, the pins are labeled 1,3,2 or C,NO,NC. The 2 or NC pin is not needed. The switches come apart and you can remove that pin, or you can cut that pin off. If you cut it off, make sure you cut it off as close to the switch housing as possible. That pin is "live" or Normally closed, when nothing is pushing the lever. When I made this video, I didn't know the switch could be taken apart, so I just cut the pin off. Before you put the new switch in, be sure to put a some solder on the pins. Or 'Tin' the pins. A dab will do ya. If the wires don't have any solder on them, Tin those too. It helps for when you solder the wires on. Nothing is more irritating than poking wires into a gob of solder and the solder doesn't stick to the wires; Then your part starts to melt, your wires start to melt, and your fingers start to melt.

The switches in the ice maker have 2 prongs, the switches you link to have 3 prongs, which prong on the new switches is not used and should it be cut off or covered some way? Also are both switches in the ice maker the same, as I would like to replace both at the same time.
@Blazfros6 жыл бұрын
The prongs are numbered, 1,3,2, (or C, NO, NC) in that order. Use 1(C) and 3(NO). 1(C) is located at the end of the switch where the lever connects to the switch. 3(NO) is in the middle of the switch. I recommend taking the switches apart and removing the 2(NC) prong. It's pretty simple to do, with the aid of a sewing needle. NC stands for, Normally Closed. When nothing is pressing the lever, that prong is live. I believe the switches are the same.

@the1spyderryder5 жыл бұрын
Remove the back cover and you will see the little tube that comes from the pump to the ice reservoir, it could be leaking, or partially clogged up, you can pull the tube out at the top from the little rubber port and blow back through it, you could probably flush it with warm water. Also look at the tube for possable mold build up in the tube that could limit the amount of water. If your water system chlorinates your water that probably wont be the issue.

I received three 14kg per hour ice maker machines from someone who was going to throw them away. They all had the ice full and no water indicators flashing. I also found one microswitch in each machine with no continuity or reading like a 100 ohm when pushed. I sprayed Electrolube contact cleaner in each one. Now they all read 0 ohm when pushed. After fixing the switch, all the machines work and produce ice. Looks like a very common problem. I wonder why?
@the1spyderryder5 жыл бұрын
Why? Cheap parts. The switches may or mat not continue to operate, that's why most people replace them because they are cheap. These switches only have about 2.5 volts on them and any resistance could cause a malfunction. I know you are trying to get out as cheaply as possable, but I wouldnt want to be spraying contact cleaner where it could contaminate the area where the ice is made, and spraying where these switches are located is sure to get in the ice compartment.
