LeBron is going to LA. In this video, I break down how I think he could solve the only real "issue" remaining in his game - his free throws. If he was an 85% free throw shooter he would become truly unstoppable. Fouling LeBron is hard enough as it is, but can you imagine if he was a knockdown free throw shooter? At this point in his career he might even have a few hundred more points in his total, only adding to his GOAT candidacy, which he will continue to work on with Magic Johnson and the Lakers over the next 4 years. If only LeBron watched KZfaq basketball videos about himself. We can all dream I guess...

Great video! The sequencing of shooting is so poorly understood by many (including myself for a LONG time) and it shows at the free-throw line. Whether you have a "One motion" like most of the shooters in the video or a "two motion" like Kobe and Yao is inconsequential compared to having additional leg drive at your set point.

Very perceptive & helpful video. Shaq is another guy who at position 2 had the ball high above his head & legs locked straight. This helps explain his low free throw %age. As you say, it may be that some of the bigger guys tend to rely on upper body strength & don't use their legs correctly

so a perfect release timing is bringing the ball up to the set point while your knee is slightly bend,is that it?

Watching LeBron for pretty much his whole career, I've also noticed this. However, if you look at his free throw shooting from his earlier career, it's markedly different. I noticed he started doing this in his Miami days, more specifically, when Ray Allen came into the team. If you look closely, Ray Allen also employs the same tactic as LeBron with his feet leaving the floor on phase 2, albeit not as exaggerated. I think LeBron took this technique from Ray Allen, in my opinion. Also, really great analysis! It's nice to see somebody else who's able to see slight differences in shooting form despite most players' shooting forms being extremely identical.

Hey Scot, his timing is clearly the major issue, but I'm surprised you didn't bring up his general alignment - prior to release, he is hold this ball significantly left of center, any view from behind shows this. What are your thoughts?

Makes sense but doesn’t this go against the standard one motion shot where players legs are extended at the set point. I think pro shooting system said this.

When you shoot how do you bring the ball up to your set point? Do you bring the ball back then forward? I’m confused on bringing the ball up to my set point.

MR. ЅᏇIЅH well that’s kind of what u do if u have a two motion shot but not really back bc that’ll give u a hitch. My advice is just shoot the ball however feels comfortable and try to transfer your momentum effectively, don’t worry about all the small details.

MR. ЅᏇIЅH Start by making sure your set point is around or above your neck. Then make sure your knee flex and calf flex are in motion with you going up to shoot. Whatever feels comfortable just work with jt

I'm going to share an old video with you. I used to go to this guy's camps in Indiana. He talks about taking the ball straight up from your pocket. There is also a way to shoot free throws where you bend your knees and put the ball under your shooting eye and that's your set point. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fr9ym7lmsLaRmJ8.html

Your analysis is dead on. Lebron also leans backward when he pulls ball up to his head. This also affects his shot.

Trainers are still out there teaching people to face the rim and to only use the fingertips to shoot. People disagree with the basic stuff I point out in my videos. I'll never understand it, but it's just how the basketball community is.

I think this has something to do with Lebron being a one-foot jumper. He is not comfortable and has less control over bilateral movements. Clearly his back muscles are not fully loaded when he shoots free throws.
