Portugal is an interesting one, given that it should not exist at all. How would you fix it, keeping by the same rules?

I'd take away Pamplona from Portugal and split the Lisbon province into Porto and Lisbon with Portugal only in control of Porto. Then I would in the campaign opening have the campaign advisor point out that you can take advantage of a crusade to take Lisbon even if the actual target of the Crusade is somewhere else. Secondly depending on whether Porto starts out as a castle or city I would give the Portugal either a unique economic building or the ability to recruit one of the castle only units in a city. Which ever compensates for what Portugal loses by only having one starting settlement. I would also make Lisbon either Moorish or Rebel and if Rebel then give Lisbon a very strong garrison. That would make Portugal different from Spain and at the same time more historically accurate.

I don't think changing Portugal is the right way to settle this. They needed more settlements along the coast of Africa for the Portuguese to take. I also like the idea of getting the new world quicker, but I think it should be tied to the master level explorers guild instead. Explorers guild should also be more about having a big navy and less about sending your navy off on crusades.

They need to divide the portuguese territory into smaller pieces. Porto in the north, Lisbon in the center/south and Faro in the south. Then Portugal should own only Porto while the other cities should be rebel or belong to the moors

Fixing Portugal 1. Have Navarre being either rebel or Spainish 2. Split the starting province of Lisbon into two provinces, Portugal now only controlling the Northern part with the new capital being Porto. Have Lisbon being either controlled by the Moors or very powerful rebels 3. Have Portugal start out as a vassal to Castile-Leon (Spain) 4. Increase the amount of settlements in the Iberian peninsular 5. Increase the amount of settlements in Morroco 6. Extend the map size to include the Sahel region and add new factions such as Mali

Make them better. Bring the Portuguese Terco from shogun 2.

Portugal being a moor vassal doesn't make sense since Portugal was a vassal of the kingdom of Leon, and giving Portugal access to Americas before the others doesn't make sense too since Spain was the first to reach americas

I think that would be really cool and very interesting to start as a vassal and have to fight for your freedom that would be very unique campaign

The vassal idea is good, but Portugal should definitely not be a Moorish vassal, but a Spanish/Castilian one. And they should only get the north of their later country.

Getting to the Americas earlier sounds like a good idea

My fixes: 1: Remove portuguese Navarre 2: Remove portuguese Navarre 3: Remove portuguese Navarre And so on Sorry, but as a basque this pisses me off so much that I literally cannot play the vanilla game without fixing it via mods. I could understand a rebel Navarre, an aragonese Navarre (as it was historically in 1080) even a "spanish" Navarre (at that point the Kingdom of Pamplona had been recently splitted between Castille and Aragon, so some parts of it were controlled by Castille although the King of Aragon retained the title of "King of Pamplona"). But the whole portuguese thing makes no fracking sense. Even having french or english there would be more accurate than portuguese.

The County of Portugal was a Vassal of Asturias, Galicia and Leon, not the moors Affonso I rebelled against his own Mother: Theresa I Countess of Portugal and in 1139 achieved the independance of the Kingdom of Portugal up until the Fall of the Monarchy until 1910 The game could make Portugal a County with maybe elements and trigger events to making it a Kingdom

Since the game starts in Medieval Times, I'd say eliminate them and replace them with Aragon giving them the rebel counties of Zaragoza & Valencia. Leave Lisbon & Pamplona rebel settlements (more like M1TW was). Also replace the "name" of Spain to the "Kingdom of Leon". Like with the Normans of Sicily, they could do a more extensive unit mesh with Moorish/Spanish units to give it more flavor than a copy/paste of "Spain". From there, either of the 3 factions (Moors, Leon, or Aragon) could in essence become the "Empire of Spain" as the game progresses. I know that's not exactly "historical", but it would be a more historical feel at least. As for "The New World" aspect of the game, that's a tough one. The New World is completely useless in the "Grand Campaign" game. Was SUPER cool when I 1st played it and seen the pop-up video's. But that was about it. I'd have to say, just get rid of that all together and use that extra space to add territories in overly large territories of the existing map. Move that point (the end of game) to the beginning of Empire Total War's "re-write". But that's a whole nuther topic. If anything the only way to fix the "new world" aspect of the game would be to make a completely different game focusing on the native peoples of the Americas. The Europeans (starting with the Norsemen) would be the Mongol hordes of M2TW, as you played on a totally different map & timeline.

Portugal a vassal of Castille and Leon, when was that? And if Portugal was to be eliminated here, what about Spain who was just created in 1500? Bunch of bulshit this video to be honest and i do enjoy this channel. The problem to this game is that instead of doing an expansion on America, they should do it instead to the Reconquista, which was the main topic in the Peninsula in the middle ages. If the game is about this period it makes no sense to do an expansion in America. That left that the Iberian Peninsual was only covered on the main game, and with settlement and faction limitations it was treated very poorly. No Aragom, Navarre, Leon, Galicia, Castille, the different taifas (or Al Andalus depending on the time the game would start). So if we only get Portugal and Spain (at leat should be called Castille and Leon), Portugal should start as a vassal to them and get latter an event that would trigger and liberation war. Then, the focus should be on completing the reconquista. As for settlements, there should be Guimarães in nothern Portugal (the first portuguese province) and then Lisbon (controlled by muslims) and Silves in the Algarve (controlled too by muslims). No need for and earlier expansion to Americas, just try to improve Iberia in the vanilla campaign.
