I began watching this by mistake, as I thought you were Savage Geese. Still, well done. I’m only a few minutes into it but I see this a modified car; lowered springs, sills, I don’t know what else... now, I can see you are responsible mechanic, but before I attempt to continue watching I will state that I believe that once a car has been messed around with (springs, dampers, wheels, tyres etc.) you can’t really blame the maker or the car for any subsequent problems. I’ll continue watching anyway as I can see you are serious. Well done.

Didn`t realize replacing a rear shock/spring could be that ( relatively ) easy. My NSR spring broke last week, had to take it to local garage to be replaced due to to time constraints. Next time round though I will consider doing it myself. Keep up the good work, the Mondy now drives like a magic carpet as they should.

beware... rear shocks on ST's are special. do not buy one from anyone that says they are also compatible with other models..they are not. if you fit normal struts on the rear then the drop links are too short. if you get longer drop links then the top bolt will rub on the tyre when hard cornering (3 mmm clearance) I had 8 pairs delivered, bulseue, autodoc etc. that were all wrong. eventually got some from ford £130.00 each (summer 2023

Wee tip for you. If you're going to Jack the car up on the pinch weld of the sill. Get a hockey puck and cut a groove down the middle as deep as the pinch weld. Saves mashing it up and asking for rust.

A knackered damper/shock can cause uneven and odd tyre wear but was very unlikely to have caused this amount of damage. This was more likely caused by hitting a pothole or kerb, for example. It may also have been run underinflated at some point. Or as he said, was faulty from the factory.
@johncoldwell340

@@mrman17 make ya right probably under inflation mate, but a tyre like a camshaft is more likely to finish off a old shock than than the shock causing the tyre

I bought a 2009 ford focus recently and it had the same issue with the same tyre. Not as bad as yours but I could always hear a rumble which changed with speed. It wasn't loud, but it almost sounded like a quieter version of a low helicopter flying over you when you're inside. I serviced and they found the misshapen tyre while doing it. Now to get the timing belt replaced as it has no service history. I got it cheap so that doesn't bother me too much.

Problems viewers might have doing this job, apart from the pinchbolt. The droplink nut: corrosion may lead to the allen key grinding up the bolt so mole grips have to be used to hold the bolt while you turn the nut. This could lead to damaging the gaiter, if replacing the droplink then that's OK. Removing knuckle from strut: Corrosion on the strut below the knuckle may make it difficult to hammer it down so wire brushing it first is a must, and plenty of oil. Putting knuckle back on: This can be difficult, a bottle or scissor jack can help and some Copper Grease on the Strut makes the knuckle slip right on and helps keep the parts corroding together in the future. Also, EAR-PROTECTION is a must when hammering it off. Trust me on this. Lastly be careful torquing that pinch-bolt back up. It hasn't happened to me but I've heard of it snapping when tightening it up leaving your straight back to square one. Might be better to just replace it if it's heavily corroded, Ford sells them for around £2, or wire brush the threads, and don't forget the threadlock.

I had the MK3 Mondeo TDCI Titanium X which is basically the same car bar a few bits as this ST. It was an utter money pit and I was relieved to be shot of it the moment the finance finished! It would eat front tyres on an annual basis which being 18" low profiles were not cheap (and that was buying mid range brands - I would never put on something as cheap and nasty as an Infinity even to sell). EGR valves were a fairly regular thing to go with £350 trip to the Garage each time except the first when it was still on warranty. The insurance was eye watering as well! It also didn't use spin on oil filters like most normal cars making that job messy. I came to utterly hate the car and how much it was extracting from my wallet every single month! A MK3 ST will be utterly driven into the ground by now and looking at the state of this one the MOT centre that gave it its last ticket needs to be shut down!

Just found your channel and good to watch, just binged a few! That tyre was frightening, Id get all those tyres changed on that car, like Bimmerclick said you should change them in pairs, especially on a performance car. On my channel I bought a cheap Mondeo and spend half as much again on a good set of tyres because I really, really value good tyres on a car - and you wouldn't believe the stick I took in the comments for not doing Bangernomics properly!

I put a new set of Goodyear tires on my Odyssey. It vibrated from day one. Dealer kept saying nothing was wrong with the tires. Skip ahead 30,000 miles, and had the tires load force tested. I had two defective tires. I went back to Michelin, and no vibration issues. Tires can be defective right from the factory.

Great video very informative i can tell you that the bulge on the tire was caused by the worn shock, i had the came problem with mine. i had to change the wheel twice thinking it as a bad tyre and pot holes but it was a badly worn shock, and noise th thing made, at 60mph you had to be almost shouting to be heard in the car, had the chocks and thetyre cange and it's all good now thanks again for the video.

If you want to save some time and energy on the other side I found an easier way to get the knuckle off when I did the fronts on my Mk4 Mondeo. Put a metal wedge (cut down spanner) into the gap at the back of the knuckle, wind the pinch bolt in from the wrong side (the side with the thread) so it presses against the metal wedge. As you wind the bolt in a further It'll then force open the knuckle and it will just drop off the strut. Same method for re-fitting.

If you've ever a bolt which is rounded you can try to remove the bolt with a pair of vice grips, the most awkward part will be forcing the vice grips closed and how much room there is to do this. I had to use some vice grips while rebuilding my drum brakes

Im sure changing out the strut has made a difference to the drove as well especially going round corners. My shock on the back of my 1st car (Corsa C) just gave up mid corner and lost the back end. It's called click bait titles. As youre a sub (I'm assuming) the title shouldn't bother you, as you're gonna watch anyway. The titles are not aimed at you, they are amedimg at drawing new viewers and hopefully then the content converts them into subs. It's sad that to get youtubs algorithm pushing your content you need engagement. the best way to get engagement is click bait titles. So that's the reason for them. Just remember the title isn't aimed at subs. The channel already has you.

For the guys with old batteries,, if they are ok for fluid then bang them on a flat surface very hard (don’t be shy at knocking it about) this will knock the build up off the plates then give it a good charge, doesn’t work all the time but when it does you’ve saved some money, or at least you’ll have a spare battery👍
