Omitting Paul London and Brian Kendrick was the biggest one for me. Loved them as a team, man.

The roster should have been way bigger considering you could only have roughly 12 to 15 superstars on GM Mode and the fact that shelton wasn't in the game is criminal.

Yeah the roster needed to be at least 80 for a 3 brand GM mode to work. Some of the exclusions suck, but are understandable due to 07 being a rough year from a talent perspective. Angle was gone, Jericho hadn't returned yet, the Benoit tragedy happened, the pharmaceutical scandal happened. An exodus of some notable stars. It just sucks cause SVR 08 could have been something great, instead we just got something alright.

SvR 08 should have had 95% of the SvR 09 roster. If they did, would have been the best gm mode ever

Yeah SVR 08’s big issue was the roster, it made doing the ECW GM Mode really difficult. And some legends that had legends deals at the time were all eligible to be in the game but weren’t in Ron Simmons Jim Duggan Dusty Rhodes And you couldn’t play or use Tommy Dreamer in GM mode because he was the ECW GM for the game. Now Chris Benoit was also eligible and was going to be in the game but obviously he couldn’t be in the game.

As a sports video game fan, who liked playing GM modes, the small roster really hurts GM mode. If you were to do a draft and not the preset roster, your roster would have like 15 max which hurts the mode.

Trevor Murdoch & Lance Cade were also on TV a reasonable amount of times in 2007 and weren’t in the game lol

London and Kendrick got new Entrance motions and movesets in this game too, as well as being the longest reigning smackdown champions that year

When i had this game as a kid, i dreamed of having The Boogeyman in it, and also "The Prince of Punk" (The Reject) Shannon Moore as part of ECW.

I always felt that alongside Ariel, Victoria should have been included as well. She was such a major heel at that time & part of a stable with both Torrie & Candice.

RVD not being in the game is crazy considering he was in SVR 11 while he was TNA champion and gone from the WWE for three years at that point

08 had potential to be amazing the gm mode was/is the best of any wrestling game with it in just to be ruined without gm mode the fact that paul london and brian Kendrick weren't in the game was kinda disappointing one of the better teams at that time and they were left out

I wish Benjamin and RVD were in the game man. I even remember seeing RVD in the beta with the WM 23 attire. I hated it bc Booker T got in (which I loved) but he was gone that year too

Since you brought up the PSP exclusive why couldn't they do what they did and SmackDown versus Raw 2006 and at the Port feature to pour over Eddie Guerrero Sergeant Slaughter and Jim The Anvil Neidhart and they were a lot of other ECW original on the roster that year like nunzio Vito balls Mahoney or they could even reached out to assign people like new Jack Public Enemy Paul Heyman who had left the company a year prior or even some of the ECW original women light jazz Francine Beulah Dawn Marie

3:40 i think the developers just REALLY don't like that championship. I remember in SVR 2006 Muhammad Hassan and Daivari where the default championship despite never winning it in real life.

Smackdown vs Raw 08 was my favorite game literally because it was the only game I could play as Jeff Hardy since like wrestlemania 19 while also having Dark Taker

RVD was needed since they already had the ECW originals. The Big Show would've been nice to have, Eddie Guerrero is a must, and personally I would've loved to have The Boogeyman for his entrance/match celebration

This game greatly suffered in season mode due to Benoit having to be cut. He was a focal point in the stories planned and with him being removed, everything became randomly generated cutscenes instead.

Chris Benoit being removed in the summer when he likely wouldve been locked in as the default ECW World Champion for the initial game release, totally crippled(no pun intended), ECW/SvR 08. Benoit would've 99% been an ECW roster member, which would've helped balance out the already unfair roster ECW had(if you count the default/non draft roster had Lashley+CM Punk, Sabu, Sandman, & Elijah Burke & Marcus Corvon), also not included Kevin Thorn, for whatever reason. I can't even remember ECW's full, original, non-drafted roster, during this period, but I don't think I'm too far off(also remember, Tommy Dreamer himself wasn't a playable or unlockable character, but instead made the ECW GM, which was another reason ECW was lacking too). ECW not being given tag titles, TV &/or Hardcore Title, really blowed, also).

Eddie Guerrero being cut from the main roster (in my case for PS2) was one of the most disappointing things ever. You simply do not do that

I think Beth Phoenix didn't make it in is because she Got injured in Mid 2006 and didn't return till July 2007 Cody debuted pass the cutoff point and did anybody actually care about chuck to be honest and plus he debuted in like June 2007 he did have some Heat matches in May and June of 2007 and again did anybody actually care about dave Taylor daivari could have been in Matt striker also could have been in it's kinda funny kenny made the game tho 😂😂😂

Although she isn’t popular, but Ashley Massaro is my favorite wrestler of all time. I would always play as her in SmackDown Vs Raw 2008 and 2009. Of course I would also play as Undertaker, John Cena, or the Hardys, but Ashley always seems so special to me. People may have different opinions, but I’m just glad that she’s included SmackDown Vs Raw 2008 and 2009.

Hell Mike Knox was in WWE at the time and wasn't included, and I'm sure everyone was so upset not to include that guy, but in all seriousness it couldn't have hurt the roster especially with the tiny amount of ECW guys

Thing is they could've carried over some models from 07 with some updating needed. RVD and Big Show as legends. Cactus Jack as an ECW Legend. Shelton, Hardcore Holly, Super Crazy, Viscera, Cade and Murdoch. Then add London and Kendrick, Kevin Thorn, Balls Mahoney, Stevie Richards, Nunzio and Charlie Haas.

This roster made gm mode horrible, especially cause there’s Three brands it’s just impossible, not to mention its unfinished.

Please do these all up to the current game I love seeing who could and should have been in the games

Deuce and Domino bothered me

For me Shelton Benjamin should have won the MITB briefcase at WM 22. It was the perfect time and fans would have accepted him. RVD could have still easily challenged John Cena for the WWE Championship at ECW One Night Stand (maybe saying that if Cena takes the match and wins he will personally hand over the original ECW Championship to Cena), won the title and instead of having Edge win the title once RVD got suspended u could have had Shelton cash in at that start of that Raw to a fair match, have him win the belt and have Cena vs Benjamin at Summerslam '06. Benjamin wins clean and faces RVD in a rematch at Unforgiven in Last Man Standing match (Cena and Edge would still have their TLC Match for the #1 Contender) with Cena winning and going on to face Benjamin at Survivor Series where he would ultimately regain the title. Bit of fantasy booking but that was the perfect time to make him a World Champion

It never made sense to me why sabu was in the game but not RVD especially cause Sabu was gone before RVD. Also why was Hardcore Holly a Ds Exclusive. Apparently Jillian, the boogeyman and maybe a few others were in development but taken out. Also the ladies roster really suffered by lita and trish leaving

Agreed that certain people being kept out while others made the cut despite how early they left is a great point, Kurr Angle left in like June or July of 06 yet he was still in that years WWE game. I had the game on PSP only, sooo i had no idea there were exclusive roster members though on it.

SVR 2008 was my first intro to the games and wwe as a whole and it’s what sold me on wrestling since as a 8yo at the time the gameplay the soundtrack everything was 10/10

No lie though I finished creating majority of the people you mentioned but yeah I still have to add guys like Deuce N Domino,The Highlanders,Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins,Super Crazy,Big Show but yeah dude the roster in this game was really lacking 🤦‍♂️

This was my favorite game as a kid. Svr 07 was my first but I played gm mode so much on this game. I loved it so much

My mind is blown watching this because I don’t remember Shelton, my favorite in high school, not being in SVR2008! I was excited about Mickie & Melina being updated and Torrie being the OG Diva (who never got to win the Women’s Title 😢). I didn’t like how this game looked graphically compared to SVR2007, it was more colorful and cartoonish in comparison. Perhaps it was the lighting? And don’t get me started on those damn fighting styles and how they used that to screw over the women AGAIN because they weren’t able to possess all of them. 😩 The gameplay was weird in general. And as you covered, Victoria was gone again. This was the start of a two game lull in the SVR series.

I put so many goddamn hours into SVR 2007 on the PSP. Every bus ride in grade 9-10 was either that or watching the new AVGN I downloaded on to it. Good times.

A roster issue that bothered me in GM mode - Not being able to play as Tommy Dreamer. Since Paul Heyman was gonna from WWE, Tommy took the GM role for ECW and wasn’t playable in the mode

No fr I can’t believe thq didn’t bother adding in tag teams in the game cause when SVR 2008 came out I was excited to play as Benoit,RVD,Eddie, and tag teams like London and Kendrick,Haas and Benjamin, even new comers like Deuce n Domino and The highlanders but ecw really was fleshed out as it was missing Test,The Miz,Hardcore Holly,Super Crazy,Balls Mahoney,Kevin Thorne,Big Daddy V,The Boogeyman but yeah svr 2008 should have had closed to 100 people in the game considering they had 120 people on the roster in 2007 especially since Benoit,RVD,Eddie in all versions and all the tag teams should have made the cut

Worst roster in all of WWE's video games? my dude, the game that came after it didn't even have any legends and had an objectively worse roster even without counting the legends because WWE had a better roster in '07 than '08 and that's not even taking into account more modern games with rosters full of jobbers nobody remembers, SvR 2008 is a flawed game, but it's the worst at nothing.

I had to make Chris Masters and Kenny Dykstra a tag team because their ring gear matched and the tag division was so weak. I have my gripes with modern gaming and their need to charge for DLC, but at least you have options.

The one thing that's bugged me is that ecw in gm mode did not have the tag and tv titles which is quite annoying

Lookup scott jays svr08 definitive edition. Fixes all the problems mentioned in this video in regards to the roster. Obviously call names are missing but all have their trons music and motions/movesets

Finally someone not using rose tinted nostalgic glasses. This was such a step back after Shut Your Mouth through to 2007. That 5 year period was awesome, but this game sucked. The gameplay, not being able to do season and GM mode at the same time, then on season mode you'd be given a choice, and it would get ignored. High fiving rivals a week after they were beating you down. By far the worst THQ WWE game. Only good thing was the soundtrack.

Like how when WWE changed things Up THQ also changed it up. WWE removes intergender. THQ removes intergender. WWE is wild and crazy. THQ gets wild an crazy.

To expand my roster for GM mode, I just use real wrestlers for SmackDown and Raw and use ECW for the CAWs to elevate themselves, also it makes sense since there's only one championship Also, if you modders somehow fused the roster of all the SmackDown vs RAW games (especially from 2007-2009) I'll definitely buy a PC just for that game... Please make it happen y'all and keep me updated 💯

I couldn't stand 07 or 08. 2009 got better, and 2010 was really good. In fact had some really good batch of Created Wrestlers who are all gone now because my PS3 glitched on me. 50 CAWs gone just like that. 30 male and 20 Female. 💔😭
