My midnight blue 89 3cv was my main bike for years, did 80,000 miles on it. I put an FZR 1000 exup rear wheel on it (17") and some progressive fork springs to change the handling into a bike that loves corners like the ones in this vid. I fitted Dyna ignition coils and iridium spark plugs, always made me smile when starting it as the starter motor would make a quick 'hic' noise and the bike would instantly fire up. Anyway great bikes and with some modifications can surprise sports bikes through the twisties. 👍❤️🇬🇧

I have owned 2 FJ's 1100 and a 1200 done thousands of miles, one of the best bikes I have owned never let me down even though they were a lot heavier than today's sports tourers it was the effort and the reward when poking them through some tight corners had a few tears when i sold my last one years ago had some sentimental attachment to it do over 180000 miles on it no major engine rebuilds (every 3200 miles oil change every 6400 oil and filter) totally agree the FJ1200 is a legend. I moved to a Kawasaki ZZR1100 it had so much more grunt and stayed with Kawasaki bought a ZX14 2008 and have put some miles on her and still have it now.

Truly said, my motorcycle instructor from VISC, Victoria, BC., used to ride fj1200. I was totally fascinated by its engine, style etc. Almost got one but yzf750 came in-between. Which was an awesome bike as well, hence Yamaha for life, for me. Ride safe.

Back in 1987, on a new FJ1200, I used come home from my job at night on Hwy 14 in California. Back then the highway was empty, maybe another vehicle here or there. I would just roll it on. One night I took it up to 145MPH, and that is no bullshit. The bike was rock solid at 145mph, no wobble, bobble or shimmy. I would cruise home at over 100mph for almost the entire trip home on the freeway. Of course on the side streets I would slow down. On one trip I rode up to Sacramento and was cruising at 120 mph up the Interstate 5, I mean doing 120 for 30-50 mile stretches. Of course I did not worry about speeding tickets because I was a deputy sheriff in the largest sheriff's department in the country. Back then and to some degree now, cops did not give other cops speeding tickets, I was stopped a few times, but just pulled out the "buzzer"(badge) and would be on my way. I also was an aviator for the USAF reserve. I flew and trained in jets and turboprop aircraft, where our groundspeed on take-off roll was over 110-120 knots, so I was used to fast groundspeeds. I loved the FJ1200, I loved to go fast, even taking my wife up to 120mph as she road on the back. But I knew I could not ride that bike slow, shit 100 mph seemed like I was standing still. I knew my speeding was stupid, I have the road-rash tattoos to prove it and I had to sell it before I made my new bride a widow and I wanted to be a father to my children. I'm 60 years old now and still ride dirt bikes. But the FJ1200 still looks like the sexiest steed on the road.

I just bought a 1989 FJ1200 Haven't ridden it much yet. Are they pretty fast bikes?
@sandybriggs17955 жыл бұрын
BillyRaysTV yes ... to say the least - on demand power for sure, be wary of how much gusto this bike has.
@ababbit74615 жыл бұрын
@@johnbasilone7698 At 60 years old, I took my ZX12R up to 180 mph on Pyramid Hwy, Nevada, past the Wild Horse BLM corrals. I took my TL1000S up to 155 mph and my CBR1000F up to 150 mph. Guess what? At 61 I sold them and got some slow HDs and Goldwings. At 63, I am still alive because of that same decision you made - sold them.. I know what you mean, it is in your blood... BTW, I use to work on CHP, local Sheriff's and local PD bikes and had a "get out of jail free" card. My best riding buddy was the Chief Deputy Sheriff and my neighbor was the SGT CHP. The work I did on their bikes was always free!

if anyone is into oval track racing, there is a class of cars that uses these fj1200 engines. i used to race them for like a decade, so i have a soft spot for these. they take a beating in those little cars and are very durable
@mideuropean3 жыл бұрын
Great ride, great music - however I had preferred to hear the engine sound. I have the same bike with some updates (hyperpro fork springs, 6-piston brake calipers (from YZF), Barracuda 4-1 exhaust system, DynoJet Stage1carburretor, K&N airfilter, Wlbers 601suspension strut, conversion to 17/5,5" rear wheel rim (using an 180 tyre). It is really a great bike but as depending on age my physical strength deceases (I feel it when handling the standing bike) I consider to change to a lighter bike like Yamaha F1, R1 Suzuki GSX-F or -R (all in the 1000ccm class). To all readers: have fun with biking, use your brain and may you always have some some square centimeters road under both tyres!

Ride a 1990 black/ blue FJ 1200, absolutely love this bike - went from a 1984 Honda CB700SC Nighthawk , to a 1984 Honda VF750 Interceptor (which was a crazy good ride, but a mechanical nightmare), to this current bike. This vid basically tells it all; on demand power, comfort and ease of handling for a bigger bike (ride Bridgestone Battlax on both front and rear, had them on all 3 bikes). Great all day ride. Where was this video shot ?? Didn’t see any comments for it....

I had the XJ900 Seca and loved that bike so next step was the FJ1200, I had it tank slap a couple of times I had the 86 model smaller front wheel still a capable bike use the gears and it goes like crazy, I had the suspension tuned by a guy who did this for the Ymaha team in Europe what a difference and then he tuned it on the dyno it had some clutch slip but was bang on with the power it was to produce, as i am now 70 yo, and have done most things this bike and later my Venture 1300 were great bikes the Venture is another story of long haul trips and also it was not a slug I could ride that Venture hard with my wife on the back and then cruise where required

The peak of this type was the 3cv (88 - 90) unless ABS is a must for you. The 3YA (as of -90) was already a little bit produced under control of the red cost pencil)

I agree, I bought my FJ in 1985. I tried the BMW k100, a fantastic motorcycle the year before, but it was not finished. I also looked at the Moto Guzzi Le mans 850, but was there an air filter? Sure, 265kg, 4 cylinders instead of 3 and chain to lubricate. I am Swedish and drove down to southern Europe a few times. In 1992 I was driven to Seville (world expo) a total of 9700Km tour. Nice and no problem, now it is waiting for renovation. Now I have a Yamaha TDM 850 that might be better for a 66 year old. Maybe a TDM 900 or renovation of the FJ 1100 in the future?
