In this episode, I will be showing you how I have set-up the 12 Volt System in my Toyota FJ Cruiser for off-grid camping, looking in more detail at the Solar and Lithium Battery setup!

Great Setup I recently put in 100amph lithium battery in my FJ behind where the backseats used to go I have got a clip on my KZfaq channel the FJ is an awesome all-round vehicle keep up the great work 🇦🇺👍

It definitely helps packing as much solar into a small space as possible. If I were to do it again, I would probably look at adding the ability to tilt.

Thanks for the Vid. I have been wondering for a while how to get my solar panel cable to my AGM battery in the rear compartment. Drilled a hole and used a grommet but basically the same as you have done with some Gorilla double sided tape. Love it.

Thanks so much for watching! The slides I am using, are sealed slides made by Dunn and Watson. The head unit is a kenwood DDX920WDABS 👌🏼

Thanks mate! It was super easy to replace. It was pretty much plug and play for car (the only thing I had to solder was the handbrake line).

Hi Mark! I'm considering putting DCS under the bonnet as well, do you happen to remember what's the most common temperature that the batteries get to? Cheers!

Hi! I think the hottest I have ever seen them get is around 45c. During the winter that is usually around half. In the FJ, they seem to get a fair bit of airflow, so the heat isn’t really a problem. Over the summer I will definitely keep an eye on it!

Nice setup - I'm a fellow fj owner, also called Mark also with an oven and little to no experience in baking . Interested in more info of where you have run the roof wiring and what grommet etc. Looking to add some lighting on my roof and given my fuse box for accessories is also in the rear this could be a good method for me also

Happy to help! So as you can see in the video, I have run it down on the passenger side of the back. The bit I don’t show as well is that I have used a blade to pierce a small hole in the bottom of the rubber grommet that carries the wiring between the door and boot. It’s a bit of a pain to get the wires through, but I was able to get 2 cores of 16ga + 4 core trailer wire through there. Haven’t had any issues with water ingress from there since 👍🏼

Hi Dean, the DCS batteries are still alive and kicking. I’m now running an inverter off them too and loving it. A few months ago, I had a slight problem with one (the bms got a bit confused and was displaying funny numbers on the app), but it was still working and when I got in touch with the company they sorted it out straight away with no questions asked.
