All I've learned from playing fox-1 servers is I hate the R-27, it is the most unreliable missile ever whenever I need it to work. But I didn't go more vertical because I was pretty sure I could finish the fight quickly with my massive energy advantage, even if the fox-2 missed I'd still end up behind him. As far as what he could have done differently, not much. The one thing the fox-1 did for me was force him to take a wide high g turn and give up his six, which ended up being a massive advantage in my favor. Because even though I was much faster, I could easily just hover above him like a true flanker and wait until I had another shot.

@@rippp4631 He saw the smoke trail and from a far, a smoke trail is a smoke trail: MISSILE INBOUND. Could be from a 27 ER or ET or 73. You forced him into the early turn and GOTCHA BEECH. I suppose he could have gone pure vertical and really "hung it on the Pegasus fan", as he was low enough for the engine to produce enough thrust to hover. Good to show the engagement and discuss after, just like a real Red/Maple Flag sortie.

You might have missed the r-27 because you did a barrel roll which makes the radar lose lock
