Tried this twice now this week and both times caught my 20 mullet in less than an hour. Actually once the mullet were running it only took 5 to 10 minutes to fill the trap each time. I love this method because then you get to pick and choose the mullet size you want. The first time I just grabbed the biggest ones, which were bigger than pilchards.. but didn't have much luck with them as live bait. The second time, I went with sizes no bigger than pilchards and it is a much better size for live bait. I took the kids the second time, and it was so much fun and educational for them to see all the fish and also the seagulls hanging around. Great stuff.

One thing I noticed is that you need to be there at the right time.. if an hour too early, they are all sleeping/resting. I found that around 10:30-11:00 am was much better than 9:00-9:30 am.

Enjoyed this video. When we were kids, we used an old large lollie jar; the type of jar that was on the shelf in milk bars and comer shops. We’d fill it and mush the bread as you did. And we’d run out and put the lid on and bring it back in. We caught whitebait and mullet this way. We would drift them under a Bobby cork for flathead. Happy memories.

Another ripper video Roger. Bait fish LOVE anything ' carbohydrate', bread as well as my secrete weapon, fine grated potato. I use a small fine grater to grate the spud straight into the water to attract Yackers, or grate a pingpong ball sized amount and just squeeze it into a ball, and use in a poddy trap. Great fun mate. Thanks for all your beaut video's.

If you initially throw a hand full of flour in the trap and shake it up it produces a milky trail coming out of the hole in the mesh. This acts as a “dinner is served” sign to initially show the mullet where to enter the trap.

Through the lip, not too far back on a dropper style rig(patnoster etc) with the sinker at the bottom so bait doesn't get weed caught around the bait. Have tested heaps of different ways and they live the longest loke this, goes though no tissue virtually and allows them to face the current unlike back hooking.

I find location is a big factor mate, jump in the car one day with a loaf of bread and go exploring. I've got a fancy $100 perspex trap and the first few times I used it I got nothing. I found my most productive spots are in canals with a bit of sand where I live. I would look on Google maps and try and find shallow spots like in the video, at the end of channels where there isn't much current racing along.

I had subscribed after watching your video on how to catch beach worms and it was amazing for one thing did not know that there were worms on the beach which is amazing as how nature works. But now that I watched your video on how to catch mullet my question is does it matter what kind of bread do you use and do you have to spray or squirt any kind of solution with a fish smell for them to swim into the bowl. Thank you for incredible videos.will continue to be watching.

I feed fish in local streams, and found the best bread to use is multi-grain bread... It can also be used for line fishing for bream and stays on the hook longer than white bread.

Thanks David, I have only ever used white bread for bait but great to hear that you have had success with multigrain bread
