Literally, the statement used when states try to ban bad for you chemicals from food. California tried to ban red 40 (and a couple other I can't remember right now) because it's been linked to so many negative effects on the human body...people LOST THEIR SHIT over not having artificial colored skittles because "I'm in America, I should be able to do whatever I want". Never mind that most the chemicals they were trying to ban from our food are already banned in multiple countries for good reason. Didn't help the news posted "CA to ban Skittles" instead of "California to ban artificial chemical colorants," so people got wild, making it seem like the government was trying to control them 😑

While I think maybe some regulation would be in order I disagree with the "our country" framing, there's not some conspiracy against the populus. This is a buisness trying to make money, they're gonna sell what people buy, there's obviously demand for something as obscenely obesogenic and diabetes inducing as this. The question is why are people ignorant or they simply don't care? My guess is some of both and ignorance is all you can fix.

The limit of intake is all predicated on how much activity the person is participating in. The more robust your activities such as workouts hiking cycling swimming running etc would allow for more intake of food beverage sugar etc. less activity would signal to the person that they are not entitled to wine or cheese and crackers or any dessert. Pretty basic common sense.

It's easy to talk about sugar content, but one major factor that many (mostly Americans) don't realize is how numb our taste buds become after decades of consuming high sugar content. Our sensory to sweet becomes the norm, so we don't even notice it anymore. After traveling in recent years (thank you covid & remote work) I've learned to "retrain" my taste buds to identify when something is too sweet. Example, those McDonald's caramel frappes that I used to buy daily in the mornings, now I can't even handle a sip anymore because it literally feels like I'm choking on sugar.

My mother who's a traditional doctor has been saying this for so long and how people wonder how and why they get all of these illnesses, only for the doctors to give them pills to put off the issue instead of telling them to look at their diets. Those small issues you take medicine for is probably your body warning you before something bigger happens that's hard to reverse. Our bodies on the daily get a lot more than required and it's making them work overtime to throw it all off until our organs start breaking down. I used to work at a dunkin and I swear i overheard the manager once tell the assistant manager “if they ask for 2 servings of sugar and 2 of creamer, give em 2 1/2, tastes better”. Not only that, but Dunkin would also require the manager to profit a certain margin, and maintain speediness in the drive through. To bypass those requirements, our manager would smack a sensor right below the outside of the drive through window if the order was taking too long to make to trick it into thinking the car had already left giving us a better drive through time. Not to mention, to help with profits, they would undercut all of our hours to avoid mandatory wage raises to force us to quit to hire new applicants, starting them at minimum wage of course. Left over doughnuts? We were allowed to take the leftovers one day out of a week, the rest were not donated or anything they were just tossed in the trash Oh and if we didn’t quit because if the hour cuts, simple solution they’d just fire us over the slightest inconvenience. Dunkin was totally okay with this by the way. Issued a complaint about everything I mentioned, never heard back from Dunkin.

You have raised so much awareness for me. I read labels closer now because of you. Im thankful for that. You are inspiring. I also respect how long youve been shining a light on food and being aware of what choices we have. Thank you! Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
