"I Don't Want to Know" was written by Stevie Nicks in 1974 before she joined Fleetwood Mac, and it was intended for a second album with her band Buckingham Nicks. The singer was initially unhappy about the decision to place the song on Rumours. The reason? It displaced another of Nicks' tunes, "Silver Springs," which she favored. The Fleetwood Mac front woman recalled in a 1991 BBC interview that when she asked Mick Fleetwood why "Silver Springs" was being removed, he replied: "There's a lot of reasons, but because basically it's just too long. And we think that there's another of your songs that's better, so that's what we want to do." Nicks continued: "Before I started to get upset about 'Silver Springs,' I said, 'What other song?' And he said, 'A song called I Don't Want To Know.' And I said, 'But I don't want that song on this record.' And he said, 'Well, then don't sing it.'And then I started to scream bloody murder and probably said every horribly mean thing that you could possibly say to another human being, and walked back in the studio completely flipped out. I said, 'Well, I'm not gonna sing 'I Don't Want To Know.' I am one-fifth of this band.' And they said, ''You can either (a) take a hike or (b) you better go out there and sing 'I Don't Want To Know' or you're only gonna have two songs on the record.' And so, basically, with a gun to my head, I went out and sang 'I Don't Want To Know.' And they put Silver Springs on the back of 'Go Your Own Way.'"

Ah the Rumors album. It produced so many hits for Fleetwood Mac. It is one of the all time best selling albums of all time and this is one of the greatest albums of all time and one of the greatest bands of all time. IMHO

The personal lives of the group were like a tv soap opera back in the day. Lyndsey & Stevie seemed to strongly care for each other but just could not be together romantically because too many other factors seemed to drive them to hurt each other. Lots of their good songs are based on the good and bad side of their relationship.

Christine Mc Vie(Keyboards, vocals) was married to John Mc Vie(Bass). When Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were a couple starting 1974 just before Lindsey was offered the guitarist position in Fleetwood Mac. He wouldn't join Fleetwood Mac until they accepted his girlfriend Stevie too. This was in December 1974. The rest as they say was history. Thank You Asia and BJ for the trip down memory lane.

Hypnotized is a great song by Fleetwood Mac, the Bob Welsh period 1973 before Stevie Nick's and Lindsay Buckingham joined.

First time I've seen a reaction to this, most people focus on songs that Stevie sings, but Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie both wrote some great songs.

The whole album was about their conflicts as couples and in their own lives. Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham the lead singers were going through a painful breakup, as well as the McVies...all that turmoil and emotional Rollercoaster gave way to Rumors, one of the best albums of all time.

You must react to the song Silver Springs. It has to be one of the most heart breaking songs ever written. Especially if you know the history of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. When Stevie sings those lines straight into Lindsey's soul..... OMG. Two people who have an undying bond but just cannot be together. This songs hits hard for me. Check it out. You will not be disappointed.

Wow, this is a deep track. I'm a Fleetwood Mac fan, but haven't heard this for decades.

The whole Rumors album was about them. John (bass) & Christine McVie (keys & vocals) and Stevie Nicks (vocals) & Lindsey Buckingham (lead guitar & vocals) were couples. And then there's Mick Fleetwood (drummer).

This song is about the moments when a couple realizes there are cracks in the relationship but try to have each others best interest in mind when they are at the crossroads. It's like they "love" each other as humans but less as lovers.

GREAT choice! One of my all-time Mac "b-side" favorites. Studio versions of Silver Springs and Sara really capture Stevie's vocals at their storybook best.

I’ve been known as the Black Stevie Nicks since 7th grade! I grew up in lily white America & grew up on classic rock! It’s a love today but add in that Parliament Funkadelic Cameo from that time period!

This song, and Second Hand News are pure Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks harmonies. You should check out Buckingham/Nicks original album..."Races are Run", or "Long Distance Winner". Their harmonies are legendary!

The were two couples…..Christine McVie keyboard player was married to the bassists John McVie (co founder with drummer Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac)……Stevie Nicks was the girlfriend of guitarist Lindsay Buckingham….

I saw an interview with a producer on 'Rumours' - he said one time, they were recording the song "You make loving fun" in the studio... singer Stevie Nicks and guitarist/ vocalist Lindsey Buckingham were arguing between takes. The former couple were going, "Damn you! Damn you!" And then, roll tape... they go back to tracking "You make loving fun"... and the producer thought it was just so wrong to have that horrible tension while singing about happy love.

The rumors album has a lot of songs about breaking up with another person in the band. Mic Fleetwood said it was some of the best songs they wrote, but it was uncomfortable to record at the time.

Every song on that album could have been a hit. Simply incredible

I can still remember where l was when l first heard the whole "Rumours" album. Still an amazing record all these years later.

Stevie and Lindsay...the last two people to join the group....just because they were recording their own stuff in the same studio as the other Fleetwood Mac members, who heard they and (thank god) recruited them. They are the two featured on this song, written before they even joined the band.

Buckingham and Nicks' relationship ended badly during the recording of the "Rumours" album, but they continued working together in the band for another decade, and those old wounds never completely healed. They've always been able to "push each other's buttons," often in the worst ways. In New Zealand, during FM's "Tusk" tour of 1980, Buckingham hurled a guitar at Nicks on stage, which nearly hit her. In 1987, when Buckingham told the other members he was leaving the band, Nicks became so angry at him that she physically attacked him, and Buckingham nearly strangled her. Buckingham and Nicks bring out the best in each other professionally as musicians/singers/songwriters, but they also bring out the worst in each other personally.
