There are subreddits for both r/menstrualdiscs and r/menstrualcups. They have a lot more info because there are more people who have tried more products. Also advice on how to pick one that should fit you since there are different sizes and shapes, especially of the cups.

@@palestar828 Did you measure your cervix? I started using a menstrual cup a year ago after researching it thoroughly due to its cost. It was the best decision ever, and I wish I had known about it sooner. This month is my first time using a menstrual disc, and I had no problem with the size since I know the size of my cup. I honestly had a very hard time inserting my cup for the first three days; I almost gave up. On my last attempt, I tried to relax, explored my body first, and finally succeeded. I’ve never been happier to get my period! Haha.

The Flex reuseable is my holy grail. It's everything I love about the size of the flex disposables with all of the texture of a Nixit (nice slim firm rim with a thin silky feeling basin) without being aggressively large. The rim isn't chunky like on a Moonthlies, Cora, or Saalt disc and isn't a funky texture like the Lumma.

You're lucky it works for you. Seems not to for me. Idk what I'm doing wrong. Is it supposed to leak? If so, I want all of my money back because they aren't cheap for just ONE and it doesn't work either without leaking. I don't understand why anyone would go into public with the way it leaks. No way

@palestar828 it's really a trial and error with any disc and then there's a learing curve you have to get through. I do agree that for most it's not worth the hassle. I really wish disc's came in smaller sizes.

I was using the cup and it was too difficult to pop open. But the menstrual disc? A game changer! I absolutely love it. Only thing on my heaviest day I have to do an auto dump of the disc, other than that, I don't empty until that evening.

If you only need to auto-dump once on your heavy day, you are very very lucky! I use the Flex reusable disc and on my first two heavy days I have to auto-dump every 2-3 hours!!! Using the flex reusable for the first time right now, and I’m enjoying it. I used the soft disc before and wanted something on the firmer side since it is much easier for me for insertion. It of course depends on how high your cervix is and how far your disc is in, but try bearing down (like doing number 2). It should move the disc to auto-dump and then should move it forward so you can easily grab it. That's how it is for me.

I wanna know how you: A.) Take it out without spilling B.) Throw it away w/out spilling C.) Put it in and position it correctly D.) What you do with the reusable one
@pitohui1800
@pitohui1800 Жыл бұрын
With discs, it's very hard to take them out without spilling, so you'll want to ideally take it out over a toilet or in the shower. To throw out the disposable, just wash it out, then throw it out. Putting it in can seem complicated, but doing it only takes a couple seconds. When putting it in, you want to aim the angled up, not straight as the vaginal canal is angled. Push the disc AS FAR BACK AS YOU CAN to ensure that it is under your cervix. Afterward, you'll want to push the rim of the disc that is towards the entrance up behind your PUBIC BONE. If inserted correctly, you shouldn't feel it at all (should be undetectable). With the reusable version, the same applies, except you're not throwing this one our, you're boiling it in boiling water before your first use (for sterilization), then afterwards, your washing it with gentle soap, then reinserting. After your period is done, you can choose to boil it again before the next cycle begins. Hope this answers your question ❤
@JIPJIPX
@JIPJIPX 11 ай бұрын
A. Do it over the toilet or in the shower, as you pull it out point the end upward so that when it us out, the blood "spills" or the back of the disc instead of on your hands. B. Let the blood flow into the toilet and then put the used disc in the packaging of the new disc you're about to use. Or wrap it in toilet paper. C. Honestly I found that it just popped into position naturally.. .once you fold it and insert it, push it till you feel it behind the bone.... you'll feel it.... D. Wash and sanitize the reusable one. I use hot water and a cleanser. The first time I pulled it out it looked like I just murdered someone....because blood was everywhere and I was at work... I definitely panicked..... I'm 5 days in and I can't believe it's taken me this long to learn about these! There's a learning curve but I'm so glad I took a chance. Good Luck!

You only need to clean it in the morning and in the evening. The auto-dump function makes it very easy during the day. Simply wash your hands before using the restroom. Here’s my story for anyone interested. I’m 16 and I have a very low cervix. I’ve tried 2 cups, the saalt small (soft) first which I could never get to open and get in fully without pain so I got a smaller cup, the all matters mini. At first it was pretty good although I was very aware/could feel it, but I really wanted it to work so I kept trying for about 5 months and this month I decided I was done with it because of how much pain, I think the pain was from the cup pressing up against my cervix but I don’t know how to fix it because the cups had no where else to go because of my low cervix. I’m thinking about trying a disc but what do y’all think? Any advice?

Which one did you try and why can't you get it in? A disc folds to the store of a tampon, so it's very easy to insert. You can put some lubricant on to make insertion easier. The important part is to hook it behind the pubic bone so that it stays in place. If it doesn't stay hooked it isn't the right size for you. Lumma offers various sizes. For me their medium and high version works great. Flex reusable works great as well, but it's more difficult to insert than Lumma. It tries to open up and even tries to rotate. But once in it is great. For me the encounter of the disc changed my life for the better. I don't want to use any other period product anymore. No more tampons! Maybe give it another try. Wishing you all the best!

I can only speak for myself, but for me the disc works the best. Cup overflowed quickly for me. Did NOT work on my heavy days. I needed the Tampax ULTRA and still had to get up at night and change it! Not plus, not super plus, but ultra! The disc works great for me. Using Lumma high I only have to get up once at night to auto-dump on my heavy days (interestingly I wake up - wearing a panty liner to not make a mess though). Once my flow is lighter I can even forget I'm on my period. Auto-dump is a real game changer for me!! The flex reusable seems to allow a longer wear time until I need to auto-dump than the Lumma. The Lumma is easier to insert though. The flex reusable tries to open up during insertion and even tries to rotate. Lumma goes in so easily. Both discs work for me. I love my discs. It's a game changer. Really changed my life for the better and I only wished I had this much earlier in life. I can highly recommend it. As said, for me the Flex reusable somehow allows a longer wear time until I need to auto-dump as the Lumma high.

Boiling is so easy. You can even use the microwave!! I have a little collapsible silicone sterilizer container/cup (it came with my reusable cup, but the disc fits in it as well). I fill it with water, drop the disc into it and microwave it on the highest setting for 5 minutes. Drain the water (be careful to not burn yourself!) and let it cool off. That's it. Otherwise put the disc inside a hand whisk and put it in a pot of water and boil for 5 minutes. Putting it in a whisk makes sure that it doesn't get burnt on the bottom of the pot. It's really easy. You only need to boil it one time per month. Either before your period or right after. When having your period it is sufficient to clean with soap and water. You really only need to sterilize it one time in between your period. And the reusable disc safes you a lot of money AND doesn't fill up the landfill.

Too heavy flow and I didn't like the bladder pressure. Even leaked on the lighter days. Tampons it was. Using the disc over two years now and will never again use anything else. I love my discs! Lumma medium and high work good for me. Very easy to insert. Only had to remove the string as it poked me. Flex reusable works great too, but more difficult to insert. Tries to open up while inserting and even tries to rotate. But it allows me a longer wear time until I need to auto-dump compared to Lumma high. Give it a try and see if it works for you. I can only highly recommend it. I really wished I had this much earlier in life!

It must be emptied every 12 hours at least, but you are free to empty it more often if you need to.

I thought the purpose of cups and discs is to lessen waste. What now... 🙄

It usually is. She is comparing the reusable Flex disc with the disposable one as Flex only recently launched a reusable version. For a long time Flex only had a disposable disc. So for people who used the disposable Flex disc (just another option next to tampons or pads) and are wondering if the reusable is a good fit, this video is very helpful. It compares the two discs.
