Flight Simulator 2020 Little NavMap Tutorial Part 2 Basic VFR Flight Plan
Hi! In this part 2 of my multi-part series on LittleNavMap I demonstrate how to create a VFR flight plan and load it up and use it inside of FS2020. I apologize for saying knots where I meant to say nautical miles :)
Part 3 of this series:
• Microsoft Flight Simul...
Part 1 of this series:
• Flight Simulator 2020 ...
I used LittleNavMap version 2.6.5 RC1 and FS2020 version 1.11.7.0 for this video.

You can add other map styles to LittleNavMap as well. I typically use a sectional for flight planning. Check out this AVSIM forum post that details how to install the alternate maps: www.avsim.com/forums/topic/548994-new-maps-for-lnm/

This is a great intro to basic VFR flight planning, thanks! I've been using LNM for this for a few weeks but I found a few new things in your video that are very useful. It's especially great to have LNM open on my second monitor during the flight. One small point of terminology. "Knots" means "nautical miles per hour." When you're talking distance, it's just "nautical miles."

Great video, very helpful in getting started with Little NavMap (together with the first video on the subject) One nit-picky point of correction, though. Several times in the video you use the term "knots" when I think it's really nautical miles you mean to use. Knots is a unit of speed (nautical miles per hour) and is abbreviated kn, while nm stands for the related distance unit nautical mile. Like I said, I'm nit-picking. Still a fantastic video. Thanks!

Great video. LNM is indeed a treasure. If I save a LNM flight plan and fly a non-glass Cessna 172 in MSFS, will the autopilot follow the elevation data as well as the heading or do I have to manually set elevation as I fly the route?

Thanks for this great guide. It all works great here except for one weird issue. I made the same flightplan as you did, then load it into FS2020. FS then adds an extra waypoint, in the direction of the takeoff, from that waypoint it directs me to the first waypoint I made in Navmap. So the first waypoint I made in Navmap becomes the 2nd waypoint when I load it into FS2020. It's not a huge deal, but I read the navmap manual, googled for hours and I simply can't figure out what is causing this. Maybe this is a 'new' feature since the latest Navmap version?

@@badGamr Hi :) I posted this issue on the FS2020 forum and apparently MSFS just recently added this. Although I think this should only be for IFR plans. But I thought I was doing something wrong, couldn't figure out why I got that extra waypoint added :) "FAA Order 8260.46, Departure Procedure (DP) Program, and FAA Order 8260.3, United States Standard for Terminal Instrument Procedures (TERPS), Volume 4, establishes guidelines for IFR departure turning procedures which assumes a climb to 400 feet above the departure end of runway (DER) elevation before a turn is made."

@@badGamr Welcome :) Hey maybe you know this - When I open the VFR map in MSFS, it draws a line between the waypoints, but not exactly. The line bends towards the next waypoint while being quite far from the former waypoint. It makes navigating by following the headings of the waypoints a bit difficult. When I follow the headings exactly I fly straight from waypoint to waypoint, like the flightpath shows in Navmap - but that actually doesn't correspond exactly with the flightpath on the VFR map in FS2020. It's all so confusing :D

When it's said that little nav maps a moving map, does that mean it opens a small window in msfs like the built it msfs map?
@badGamr
@badGamr 3 жыл бұрын
While LittleNavMap does not open a map window or directly integrate into the MSFS user interface, it does provide a detailed map in it's own user interface as a separate application that is connected to the sim and displays your location as well as other information. The mapping tools inside of MSFS are currently fairly limited and LittleNavMap allows for greater flexibility. But it does so in it's own user interface. Hope that helps!
