In today's class we are working with an otherwise flighty Indian ringneck who can be resistant about going back into his cage and doesn't want to fly to his owner.

That’s my biggest issue with my ringneck he is deathly afraid of everyone except my sister and I. He just screams and takes off. Which sucks bc he’s completely tame with me.

To get my ringneck in the evening into the cage is turn off all lights and place a flashlight on top of cage facing the cage door. He goes in very easy plus there is a little millet for him as treat. I got him as a rescue. He comes down to table perch when he wants to train. He knows to turn around, go upside down on perch. Sometimes comes when I call. He has never wanted hand or arm near him. I love him just the way he is.

It's a really nice Video and the owner tried so hard to give her feathered friend a good life, it's so adorable! I wish it was that easy for me haha! My two yellowneck Amazones come from a traumatizing home and are afraid of everything. They didn't even know what fresh veggies or water or a (spray bottle) shower was. The female is pretty young and VERY receptive to treats. She will do almost everything for it, even fly through the whole flat to get to me when I am in the kitchen, because I always give her something if she interacts with us. The male however is so scared of everything and not a very good flighter (the vet assumed he got hit, because half his feathers on one wing are broken off) and it's a nightmare... he even tries to stop the female from flying over because he is jealous that she gets a treat for coming over. For a Walnutpiece he does step up on my arm but very reluctant and he flees instantly, when he got the treat. My husband can't even come close to him, treat or not he will bite because he is SO scared. Introducing them to new things (target training is not an option right now) takes about 2 weeks (putting stuff in the room, placing it in different spots etc.) Poor babies :( But we have probably the next 60 years to get them to a healthy diet, learn what vegetables and fruits and nuts are and be a little less scared of.... everything. My personal big breakthrough with the male was, that he does want the treat and although he is not willing to interact with hands, he is fine doing "tricks" for treats from a little distance. So far he waves

I always put a short perch on the inside door. This is where all the good stuff happens. They have to go to the perch on the door to come out, go in, get a treat inside the cage. It’s also where I train a new bird. The perch on the door lets me close the door quickly if the bird tries to climb out. Now, when I want to put all 8 in their cages because someone is coming over or I have to go out, all I say is “perch!” And all 8 go to the perch or the top of the door. My Amazon and one of my moustaches do not like men at all.

My Indian Ringneck just turned one in February. I hand raised him from about 2 1/2 weeks. I did bird rescue for a really long time and I wanted to see what a bird with no baggage was like. Rowdy is doing well. He free flies most of the time. He goes to either of his cages after a verbal command even if he is being sent there for time out. He was a fan of the targeting stick or clicker. He stole and damaged both at one time or another. Ringnecks are super intelligent and aren't birds for everything. It seems the woman is dedicated to her bird and committed to make the best of their future.

Ringnecks seem to avoid skin and either jump directly onto the sleeve or head there right after step up. I’ve tried training the phobia out of mine and it’s so funny when things are just going with the flow he steps up without remembering that he doesn’t step up lol. His realization reaction is hilarious.

@devsadlakmira4141

I think he/she dosen' t have the ring because he/she is bit too young to get it. And trust me I live in a country where they are everywhere. A lot of people have em here. And also there are thousands of them here in the wild too. Males and females are a bit hard to tell apart. And they get their ring when they are mature.

I'm pretty sure Fransoise is a female as well. They said that "he" is two, and by this point the ring on a male would be very obvious.

Wondering if you are in Los Angeles, or Indonesia lol, there are a lot of wild parrots now in LA, and that is why I mentioned it. In all honesty, it feels to me like it's a female, usually I get it right, but I'm sure I can get it wrong.

Please explain the stick and clicker. I’m not familiar with this. My first parakeet was during the 1970s and Romeo developed about a 50 word vocabulary before he died 7 years later. Now at 85, my kids bought a parakeet for my birthday. Buddy is still cautious about me after 2 weeks, but better than when he arrived.
