Flintknapping a broken blank to salvage the left overs by making thin preforms out of the broken pieces using isolated platforms to drive big flakes. Pressure flaking with deer antler flaker to get thin sharp edges and create a great lenticular cross section of the lithic material. Use flint or chert and the 1 and 1/4 inch copper pvc edbo bopper with near straight in striking angles on the carefully prepared nipples to make arrowhead preforms.

So it seems using a proportionately large bopper helps, but you'd probably have to be extra careful not to impart too much force/shock into such a small piece. Great demo, thanks!

It looks like you are using a 1 1/2 inch cap on a long pvc handle .....would the short 4-5 inch bopper with 1 1/2 caps on both sides work as well ?
@EDBO23
@EDBO23 3 жыл бұрын
I don't really like caps on both ends. I tried that in the hammer videos. 6 to 8 inches for handles is best. See bopper construction video. Thanks

Maybe I can not see the angle correctly but it appears the nipple you make is higher then the flake you are running? It was my understanding the nipple should be just below the center of the flake being removed? Confused

It looks like sometimes you get away with hitting a nipple above the center line/plane: is that just camera distortion or is that just... skill?
@EDBO23
@EDBO23 3 жыл бұрын
Remember from the start of the video I kind of formed a edge all around pretty much in the center plane. So at least at the start of the video most of the nipples are actually very close to the center - not above. Knapping for 43 years helps also!
