In 2014, the city of Flint, Michigan switched the source of the water supply to save money. Immediately, there were complaints about the taste and the smell, and it was later confirmed to contain dangerously high levels of lead. It’s been five years, and despite recovery efforts that include updates to the city’s pipes, residents still have no trust in the safety of the water.

That is absolutely outrageous that that issue has not been resolved, clean drinking water is a basic necessity to live/survive and therefore it is a basic human right and the government should be sued for violating them. It is the governments' responsibility to its citizens to provide clean healthy water.

"FLINT, MI -- Water tested from 138 Flint homes last month by Virginia Tech University has registered lead levels that meet federal guidelines and are significantly lower than two years ago. Professor Marc Edwards said the testing is most likely the last such sampling VT will coordinate in Flint after 90 percent of the homes tested in the latest round showed 9.8 or fewer parts per billion of lead, less than the 15 ppb limit." How and why this still an issue, save for the remaining houses that should have their lines replaced before the end of 2019?

This is happening in Enterprise, Lousiana too. The government basically told them to deal with it because it will cost billions to fix. The government also told the town to boil their water before drinking when this started. Boiling water with lead in it raises the level content of the lead. I am from Lousiana my cousin did live there but got so sick he had to move. If this was a problem in a city like Washington DC, Denver, Arizona, or New York it would have been fixed within a week. The Government doesn't even care enough to donate endless free water to Flint and Enterprise. It's unthinkable that people have to live in America like this.

this is more important than the american people. military & NASA & THE POLICE & The Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on United States Taxpayers" report put the total cost of illegal immigration at $135 billion a year, while claiming undocumented immigrants paid only $19 billion a year in taxes. I lived in Flint this past winter for school and have been in Mid-Michigan my whole life. I was hesitant to drink tap water at U of M - even if they are on a different system. The government lied to the people here about a basic need for life and humanity. I don’t understand how those people can live with themselves knowing the thousands of residents they tried fooling. I feel bad for Flint, but the people are positive and strong, just like nearby Detroit. Things will change soon, everyone needs to keep fighting and helping. I think of Flint and Detroit a lot, much love for those cities.

Bottled water is simply purified tap water, the more expensive brands are mixed with a small amount of spring water or mineral water, however regardless of the country or where its produced its never pure. The reason behind this is because those who have been leased the rights to take water from aquifers and lakes replace the water they took with ordinary tap water, and this over time it dilutes the quality of fresh water unless there is a strong buffer effect which in cases like Canada and New Zealand the melting glaciers and large aquifer systems naturally combat this.

Billions of dollars were given to fix this and it’s still not fixed, they stopped distributing water bottles to those who need it, us Flint residents have to still pay for our water bill and it’s 3times more than usual due to this. The government is failing us and they are too selfish to fix it.

I'm an AmeriCorps NCCC alumni of Class 24. I worked in Flint Michigan for my final project for 8 weeks. Everything she says is true, and it extends beyond the water. My team and I boarded up 300 homes in those 8 weeks. Before I left Flint, I promised to never forget the residents. I'm still horrified that this is STILL going on! Whoever's in charge needs to be held accountable!

I'm so sorry the country has ignored what's happening. I'm in California and I've tried to wake people up to Flints ongoing water crisis, and will continue until you have drinkable water. We live by oil refineries and grew up not drinking our waters, still don't even though our water companies say it is safe. But what is happening in Flint is pure neglect.

Demand to be bought out and relocate. My family was from morrsinville in Louisiana and we lived next to Dow chemical plant for years it was called cancer alley, but they did right by us a community of about 30 families and we were able to rebuild and relocate. There's more than one way to skin a cat. Thank god people did not get sick nor did we have bad water, but matters were taking care of just in case a scenario of that sort would have happened. I pray for all of you to be relieved of this neglect.

God Bless you April. I’m praying for all the children and residents of Flint and also you and your family. Such a preventable crisis but for the lies, cover ups and corrupt agencies ignoring the numbers. This should never happen to anyone, but especially in the United States when we have money. This breaks my heart that this health crisis could have been racially directed. I can see why you and the other residents love your town so much, it’s the people, people like you, that care, reaching out to help others. 🙏🙏🙏

The water maybe fine at the treatment plant however once it leaves it goes into old pipes from the street then old pipes that are ruined inside the homes. Hot water heaters, kitchen/bathroom sinks and bathtub/shower pipes are all ruined. Her is a good question. Why should home owner have to bare the cost of replacing there home pipes?? When this was done to them by Governor Snyder.
@likwidshoe
@likwidshoe 4 жыл бұрын
This wasn't done by Snyder, you dope. It was a black city official who decided to ignore the science of differing PH balances in the new source and of how it would ruin the lining of the lead pipes. This was predictable. African officials deliver African results.
