A floss tube welcome to my first guest stitcher. My cousin Lisa, who reconnected with me after my first Floss Tube video, brought her WIPS and we displayed our family heirloom quilts.
Check out some highlights of our recent XC ski trip to the UP of Michigan on our other channel.

Enjoyed your video! I think it's wonderful that you & Lisa reconnected through the love of cross stitch! My paternal Grandma made a quilt top for me while Mom was pregnant, Grandma was dying of cancer & knew she would never see me. As an adult I kept it tucked away for fear something would happen to it, it was just a top. In my early 50's I had my Sister finish it, she is 14 years older than me & remembers a dress of hers made out of one of the fabrics. I get it out and display it across a chair at times. I had to tell myself she made it out of love & I need to look at it. It's great that each cousin has a quilt to treasure.

What a bittersweet story that is. It’s tragic when a loved one is taken too soon. I’m glad you get to enjoy your grandmother’s quilt. It’s nice that your sister finished it for you. Family is everything. ❤

Gorgeous quilts! The oldest one with the handwritten label is my favorite! You could copy that note onto a fabric label and then handstitch it to the back, put the original with a picture in a family scrapbook. In fact take pictures of all the quilts and pair them with the maker, would be good gifts for all the grands/great grands, etc.

I am so impressed in your videos. It is amazing to find a relative. My grandma Rhoades had 42 grandchildren or more when she passed. I had been told each grandchild got a quilt, but I really don't think she made that many. The one she made my mom was Sunbonnet Sue in that 30s pinks. Also embroidery. It had mom's initials on it. I have 3 sisters. I am the only one that quilts send handwork. My sisters decided I should have the quilt. So special. I love hearing your family history. You are great at adding pictures to video also.

The quilts are beautiful. I started quilting in 1984. I learned to do it by hand. I pieced by hand and quilted by hand because I wanted to do it like my grandma. She passed away in 1936. So I never knew her. My mom said if your grandma had the sewing machines that you have today she wouldn't have done it by hand.

What fun to meet up with your cousin who is also of the same mind! And the quilts, what treasures, aren't they? Great grandmother's quilt is really beautiful! I have some from my great grandmother on Mom's side, a grandmother on Dad's side, and a bunch that my mom made- all of them WIPs. Oh, and I found a needlepoint that I probably started when I was in my early teens. The background is an unknown color, and I think I'll have to start that part over. I wonder if I really have to finish them all... nudge me Cindy!

Nice. My grandma made all the grandkids and was almost done with the greats when she passed. Her and her two sisters hand pieced and quilted. They did use their clothes, and old shirts anything. My mom made us clothes out of old clothes too. Newspaper of brown butcher paper worked for them. I am from Missouri and my dad had relatives in Ill and IN. Went there a lot as a kid. I sure enjoy your KZfaq it’s like visiting memories.
