It is time to do the winter job of pruning the Hydrangeas, also I talk about plants the Australian animals do not like to eat. Facebook: / homestead.downunder Twitter: / homesteadtassie Instagram: / homesteading.downunder

I am experimenting with saffron crocus this year. Nothing seems to touch them, and we get to harvest our own saffron... win-win :)

Wow, the hydrangeas grow well in Tassie.

Hi from southern Tasmania! I have the same problem with critters devouring everything too. Lots of $ lost and tears of frustration. In addition to your video and other comments what’s working for me are delphiniums, daphne, escallonia, arum lily, echium, creeping thyme, hebe, euphorbia, polygala, bergenia, limonium, alstroemeria, tibouchina, foxglove, african daisy, Montana snow and clematis 🌸

A great idea...deers and cockies eat much of my garden or trashed it just for 'fun'

WOW! I've never seen hydrangeas like that before! They're massive! The Laburnum trees are amazing. They're new to me. Do they grow in most areas of Australia or do they prefer the colder weather in Tas?
@elisabethsteed563111 ай бұрын
Hi, Laburnums can also grow in hot places but need shade,

Hi , i was given this hydrangea years ago as a cutting, with no name. and grew it into a bush then propagated more cuttings,which i made the circle of hydrangeas you see in the film

Thank you for the ideas - I wanted to plant an English garden in our front yard but I do get kangaroos visiting nightly for grazing! I grew up in the bush and the wallabies ate almost everything… even the geraniums. But they don’t touch the Rosemary 🤔
@elisabethsteed563111 ай бұрын
Hi, thank you for your comment, well I have tried a hedge of Rosemary and that didn't work, maybe it was because the plants where young, that the animal found them tasty.

Hi Elizabeth this winter garden is so beautiful! Are most of the flowers you have filmed here poisonous to animals? I would like to learn more about them. Excuse my understanding of what you are saying/asking us in this video! Sofia

Yes, these plants are poisonous. But not all these plants are flower in winter - some of this film is from other times of the year.

Those were some massive hydrangeas! Will they grow back the same size next year after chopping them back so much?
@elisabethsteed563111 ай бұрын
Hi, yes they will grow back as big each year,

I find that possums don't touch agapanthus, azallias, rhododendron, lavender, polyanthus, day Lillies, daffodils, johnquils, hyacinths, Lillies, peonies, gazanias are the best to grow that possums don't want, hope this helps 😊
