I flew from Los Angeles to Hawaii a number of times in a C-97 four engine prop cargo plane, the flight time was ten hours+ to Hawaii and a little less back to LA. Always flew at night at about 8000 ft. Once in a while we could see Check Point Charlie which was a ship anchored about half way to the islands for navigation purposes. This was during the Viet Nam war.

Great Video! Been flying personally for 30 years and always enjoy seeing cockpit time that I wouldn’t otherwise get to see or experience. One critique, you’re music is a little too loud, and you should fade every time there is talking. Your viewers will enjoy hearing the ATC dialogue and crew discussions without straining. Just something to consider for future videos.

Really interesting to watch. A friend of my dad was a Pan Am pilot who flew the old flying boats across the Pacific prior to WWII. He actually landed at Midway the day before the attack on Pearl Harbor on his way to the Philippines. He flew for Pan Am throughout the war, and retired as a 747 captain in the early 1970's. Watching this video made me think of how he had to navigate back then as compared to the technology available now. What amazing progress!

Wow! Absolutely incredible. After crossing the Pacific many times with the equipment that we have I have thought with deepest admiration about the pilots that did it years ago. Question - is it a FAA requirement to have one pilot "ready" with an O2 mask due to certain conditions of the flight (location, altitude, etc.)? No matter what, it seems like a really good idea in general, especially after events like the Payne Stewart crash years ago.
@MuzixMaker Жыл бұрын
Altitude yes.

Yes it is. Notice that I am wearing my oxygen mask around my neck, ready to just pull up on my face. I was wearing it, but pulled it down during the talking parts due to the fatigue that the mask causes on a five hour flight. It helps to take little breaks here and there while continuing to keep an eye on things.

Awesome video! I am so used to flying in a 787-9 non stop from CYYZ to PHNL but I think I would rather be in your aircraft with you guys on that route! Cheers from CYYB.

After an ATC AND flying career, the one thing I've never done is an oceanic crossing. Interesting..., the Oceanic procedures; reminded me of my early days of (non-radar) instrument flying: position report, estimate for next fix and the fix following. As an Extra-class Ham radio operator, I well understand the 'static and noise' on the wireless. I've talked to many ham operators who reported as 'Airborne,' when they called to chat. All-in-all, this was an interesting - educational video. Thanks, guys..........
