A friend picks me up from Los Angeles in his Garmin G3X equipped Bonanza and flies me to Northern California to pick up my Grumman Tiger from annual inspection.

Nice trip with you to pick up the plane. In sims, I fly both - glass panels are nice to fly and you get used to them pretty quick.

That guy also has an AG5B and it's currently getting the same panel. I keep telling myself to remember that it won't make the plane any faster, LOL

Boy how I miss my Tiger. Don’t get me wrong, at this point in my life, I’m enjoying my Sling LSA, it’s perfect for me in retirement. It more than fits my current mission, but the Tiger, well, is IMO the best 4 place single produced. Thanks for the videos Wolfie.

Those new Sling TSI's look pretty amazing. That Rotax 915 engine would be awesome in the Tiger!

Yes, The Airplane Factory hit it big with the TSi. I’m waiting to see how the High Wing TSi turns out, it’s due the end of next year. I’ve become a big fan of all engines Rotax.

Another great video, thanks for sharing. Your production quality is excellent. Are any special precautions or testing necessary after the annual? Or is the flight just "business as usual"?
@Wolficorntv4 жыл бұрын
thx man! Other than some ground testing together with the IA and a thorough run up, it was biz as usual. If I had a more extensive annual, then perhaps we'd both go up and flight test.

Is glass cheaper in kit planes for some reason ? They all seem to have it and I am certain in lots of them its not 70 k ? Does it make easier to actually fly ? and on a very basic note does it make you spend more time looking at the screens rather than looking out and flying or does it give you more time to look out by reducing the work load ? Would be great to put sensors on pilots heads and measure this ? But all said and done looks an amazing set up !! Almost an Airbus ! N.B. Love the Pilatus hat
@Wolficorntv4 жыл бұрын
There is a big difference cost-wise between avionics for experimental vs certified aircraft. From what I understand, alot of it boils down to the increased expense for manufacturers to get these products certified by the FAA. The glass panels mainly come in handy for IFR flying. They can centralize alot of info into a smaller space. For VFR alot of it is overkill, honestly. But it looks cool, right? I would love to put a similar setup in my Tiger one day but I just can't justify (i.e. afford) the expense.
@N1120A4 жыл бұрын
Chris, who co owns the plane, and I fly IFR all the time. Sometimes sitting on the soup for nearly an entire flight. Having a panel like this so significantly reduces workload and allows for you to be so much more rested and on it when you're in the terminal area.

Both planes look like they have a ton of headroom in very upright seating positions. Must cost on aero/speed/engine needs/fuelcon
@Wolficorntv4 жыл бұрын
They are both pretty roomy. The Tiger is actually the one of the fastest in it's class (180hp) with great fuel economy (relatively speaking). I get an honest 130 kts TAS at 8.5 gal/hr when cruising around 7-8K. I could go faster but I prefer to cruise @ 2500 RPM (it's fixed pitch).
