Flying Mavic Mini from 60 foot tower

Today we fly the Mavic Mini from a wooden observation tower. We see some amazing views and get a chance to see if being elevated helps with the Mavics range!

In this video i flew outside of VLOS or visual line of sight, during the time of filming i was unaware of this is an FAA violation. All flights from now on will take place within VLOS. Do not attempt to recreate this flight. Thank you.

I've got a big tip for all you mini ops.....to keep from hearing the constant annoying beeping after it's on its way to return to home, hit the return to home button on the top left of the controller softly and that should stop the beeping until the next phase @ 10% battery. Then do the same. But be warned to not forget about you're battery consumption!.

Lol if you lived in Florida you would completely disagree .. Its hot in the morning after the sun come out . then even hotter all day until you get off work then it rains for about a hour then sunny again ..keep in mind we have wind .so driftaways.but it does look nice here ...guess im lucky to be in Fl Tampa next to clearwater

Yea they are bad here . I think the best place to fly would be in Colorado for the rocky mounts or mount Rushmore even though your not supposed to fly close to people or state parks .maybe with permission from a park ranger thats chill..

@@MilesDeep The dual eye overlap field of view of the human eye is around 130°degrees angle of view The mavic mini at 1,000 ft away from the pilot is equal to 0.11 degrees angle of view As a comparison The broadside of a US penny viewed at 60 ft is equal to 0.15 degrees so there is absolutely no way that you have visual line of sight with the mavic mini at 2,500 ft distance from you.

@@felix5658 You don't have to order from DJI to get the care refresh. You just have to activate it within 48hrs of purchase. I bought my MP2 from Saturn and got the DJI Care Refresh within 24 hrs of purchase.

I've heard you mention the Wind Map before. I like the the layout of it, that I got a short glimpse of at the beginning, so I just got it, thanks! I too have a MM, but I haven't flown it out nearly as far as you have. I just put in my order for the Mavic Air 2, 4 minutes after launch. We shall see how long it takes to get here. I bought the fly more bundle for the Mavic Mini, when it launched, and other's were getting their MM's that were not the "Fly More" packages, way sooner than I got mine. People had them about a month before mine arrived. They stated that they made a lot more of the standard versions, and that was the reason for my extra wait time. I bought the fly more package with the Air 2 as well. I'm just hoping they didn't screw up, and make the same mistake they did with the MM fly more, and it will be here soon.

I subbed and am enjoying all your videos! Can you tell me how to view the drone videos on the TV? I’ve tried using a USB adapter and plugging the mini sd card directly into the TV, but none of my TVs can ever read it. Also tried plugging SD adapter into an SD port but no luck. Is it a formatting issue? Any help is appreciated!

Your mini sounds like it may have flattened blades from being stored in that case. It's a lot higher pitched than mine and I read this on the mavic pilots forum. Might check. Nice vids by the way!

Agreed! The case has a diagram where you store the drone showing how to fold the props away safely. EDIT: I realize he has his own storage for his drone I'm talking about the combo.

Love the videos, Could you maybe do a short video explaining the AirMap app? for the mavic mini you dont need to register it or have a part 107 but the app says your breaking the rules by not registering the mini. Can you please advise?

I flew my mini 10,042 in a rural area in Indiana with some cheap range extenders on in 14mph winds with no problem I could of kept going but battery became an issue at that point!

Hey 👋, big fan of your videos. My brother and I are going to order a Mavic mini soon and I have a couple of questions. I know that I don’t have to register it because it is under 250 grams but I heard that if I use this for youtube and when I monetize my videos I have to register it for commercial use. Also I’m not too sure on when I need to request a flight from the FAA?

Miles don't forget you can run Sport mode when pushing a headwind to travel further. You just have to keep in mind Return to Home defaults back to a slower flight speed!.

Hi, I am in the UK, and visit Florida every year. What permission do you require to fly the Mavic mini, on the beaches and state parks, as all the info I have read states you cannot do any or these. If you do need permission where do you get that from? Sorry for so many questions- new flyer. Love all you videos

He does occasionally, or if needed due to wind, but it uses more battery. Not as good for photog either.

I always manually reset the home point as soon as I take off and in hover to check. Sometimes...the nice DJI lady can be wrong !

I stand on an old pontoon boat on a trailer so it gets me up about 8 er 10 ft off the ground. It helps loads!

The one I use is simply called 'windy',and it can give you wind speed anywhere at anytime and at any altitude, along with wind gusts speeds,etc.

Great videos. I wish I could fly so far with my Mini in my area :-) Few weeks ago you gave a good tip how to recover corrupted video file, by putting it back to the drone and let it finish writing. Unfortunately I read that too late and after copying all the files to my hard drive I erased my SD card. When I found later that one of my videos is corrupted I copied it back to my card to use your method but the drone couldn't see it. I think the info from the MISC folder on the SD card is needed to repair the file. By the way, maybe you went through the similar situation and found the way how to solve it?
