Pacific Coastal Airlines, or Pasco, is a Canadian regional airline that flies within British Columbia, and also operates flights for WestJet Link in Alberta. They’re primarily based out of the south terminal at Vancouver International Airport, and have a fleet of Saab 340s and Beechcraft 1900s.
Today, I'm flying on one of their Beechcraft 1900Cs from Victoria to Vancouver. See what I thought of the Pasco experience in this trip report!
Big thank you to the person who made this flight possible, you know who you are, and I really appreciate the support :)
Thanks as well to Brandon for his hospitality during my stay in Victoria, go check him out: / @bsiskaaviation

I am a captain of an A320 and flying for Volaris. I found interesting to fly in a Beech 1900C, It seems not so stressful as a big jet and more personal, just see that there is no cockpit armor door for example and the passengers can talk to the pilot & see the progress of the flight.

I've come over to Canada twice to sample of these airlines. First time I flew LHR-YYZ and return on a BA 744, stayed 2 nights in Toronto then flew YTZ-YUL on PD DH4, stayed 1 night then flew YUL-YOW on AC DH1, YOW-YYC on AC E90, stayed one night then flew YYC-YEG on AC DH3 and YEG-YVR on AC 320. Stayed 2 nights in YVR and while there I did a 40min tour of the city and mountains on Harbour Air otter. Then flew YVR-YYZ on AC 319 then back home. 2nd trip I flew LGW-LAX on DY 789, LAX-SEA on DL 717 First class then SEA-YVR on Horizon DH4. Stayed in YVR for 4 days as I loved it so much on my last visit. Then flew YVR-YXY on Air North 735 and stayed 1 night, then flew YXY-YDA and return on their HS748 then back to YVR on their 735. Next day flew YVR-YYJ on Pacific Coastal B1900D and YYJ-YVR on AC DH4, then back home on AC 773 YVR-LHR. I absolutely love the smaller Canadian airlines, they really are special and what a spectacular country it is

Great shots! What I really like about your channel is that you are a real aviation enthusiast! Unlike some others, you know your aircraft. Yes service is a big part of flying, I find there are a few out there that don’t really seem to know much about aviation and prefer to talk (most of the time bitch🙄) about an appetizer sitting in a F or J seat! Keep up the great work! Cheers 🍻!

We have countless times driven from Crofton on Vancouver Island up to Trail BC to visit aging parents. Then we thought, why not try flying! OMG! in the same time it takes to go from home to Nanaimo, ferry to Horseshoe Bay and get off the ferry to start an 8+hour drive...we were LANDING in Trail! Needless to say, we went several times! ‘Pasco’ service was second to none! And their care for when we flew our parents down here was above and beyond anything we expected! Oh...and Alex...be glad you sat up front. Half way down the isle the wing spar protrudes across the aisle and I darn near landed flat on my face! But at 6’8”...your head would probably would have made a dent in the cargo bulkhead!🤕😂

Nice flight. The scenery in that part of the world never gets old. Victoria is one of two airports that I've flown to both commercially (Pasco!) and privately. The King Air DNA is much more obvious in the 1900C than the 1900D.

I've flown more than a few times with Pacific Coastal on both their Beechcraft and Saab planes. The rush I have when the throttles are put to the wall never gets old. I think the very back seat on the Beech is my favourite. Right from the very first flight with them they have impressed me with the skill of their air crews and their professionalism that leaves plenty of room for friendliness. Over the last several years fighting some fairly major health issues that required travel to Vancouver they have made my life much easier many times with out even knowing they have done it. I can not say enough good things about them. P.S. I hope they are not considering a name change, Pacific Coastal is a great name that can paint a picture in your mind, while Pasco sounds like something that happens in your colon!

I am planning a trip to Port Hardy to see my friend and I needed to know if i would be able to board the plane by myself because I have a bum knee and am in alot of pain most of the time. I can see the steps are going to be a problem but maybe if i ask for assistance in and out of the plane I will be able to do it. I can also see that i will have to take my obus back pillow because I cannot recline at all my back is too badly damaged. Thank you for showing me that with assistance I can book my trip.

Alex, you made my Sunday morning! This airplane I am thinking about and plan to flight in Feb2020. Opening KZfaq I see your newest video - and bingo, its a Beechcraft 1900c! Coool. Want to enjoy that too: for me it will be Nassau - Governors Harbor 20 minutes flight on Bahamas by Southern Air Charter. They have also 1900D version but I hope it will be 1900C. :))))

Your short 18min hop reminded me of the times I had also flow short hops between cities in a 1900D. Flown the Beach 1900D with Mesa Airlines between Roswell and Albuquerque, NM when they still had that service in mid 2000's. Later again with Mesa from Denver, that stopped in Colorado Springs, then Pueblo, and finally Albuquerque, then a transfer in ABQ to a Roswell bound 1900D, (it might have been the same plane, I can't remember if the crew was different) that plane then would fly onto Hobbs, NM after stopping in Roswell. I took this circuitous route to experience the 1900D, knowing you would have to disembark at both Colorado Springs airport for an hour and 20 or so mins at Pueblo, and again in ABQ. It was also the only airline serving Roswell, NM at the time, so I wouldn't have to drive 3hrs between ABQ and Roswell. I took off 4 times and landed 4 times that evening. Unfortunately we had a late start in Denver and it was winter so daylight quickly faded, not much to see in the dark, especially between Pueblo and ABQ and ABQ to Roswell portions, with far lower population between those cities.

I flew the 1900 from KSUX to KMSP several times back in the early 00's when Northwest Airlines (Airlink) flew them along with the Saab 340 on the same route. Fortunately it was a short 45 minute flight so my height (6'3") was only cramped for a short time. Unfortunately, the 1900 and the 349 were the only aircraft that flew the SUX - MSP route and it was the only destination out if SUX, so you were stuck with one or the other.

Ever since the major US airlines (American, United, and Delta) have retired multiple turboprops, Canada is one of the last places in North America where you can still see propeller aircrafts in active service, especially the ones that are rare to find nowadays.

Great vid! I used to work for Pasco in flight ops, so it’s always great to see them get featured! Small point but the “Pacific Northwest” is a term that refers to the continental U.S., so we refer to ourselves as Southwest BC or the South Coast. 🙂

Thank-you Alex for another video that throws me back in time and reminds me of my own experiences with regional (commuter as it was known) flying. _However, before I continue my comment I too express a great deal of gratitude towards Brandon, who ponied up the buddy pass and made the trip possible for you._ Furthermore, as a demonstration of my thanksgiving, I have subscribed to his “KZfaq” channel with the ground floor membership number, 363. So Alex, please send to Brandon my appreciation, and please ask him not to forget us when he becomes rich with subscribers as you have, as evidenced by the hoard of paparazzi falling all over themselves merely to photograph your departure at @4:37 - JUST KIDDING! As a reminder to you, I frequently flew on a Beechcraft 99 commuter aircraft between Chicago’s O’Hare to Danville, IL, which is roughly the distance between Vancouver and Kelowna, BC. About the only noticeable external differences between the 99 and 1900 are the shape of the fuselage, square vs. oval windows, rear vs. front passenger doors, and the horizontal stabilizer mount. Inside, the 99 had about 1 foot less headroom, which made a trip across the wing spar hump on the floor a tight squeeze (I’m 6’4”). I flew my hour or so flight so frequently, that I was able to experience all the seats. Ultimately, my seat choice depended on my mood. Sitting in the front gave me the best view of the cockpit and instrument panel. Behind the wing provided the best view of the ground. Despite the exceptionally beautiful scenery, I could not help being attracted to the cockpit views. If the pilots were flying without using the autopilot, they certainly did do a phenomenal job of keeping the aircraft level - the “Vertical Speed Indicator” appeared to be frozen on “0”. Finally, among your last phrases in describing your experience with flying on the 1900 vs. jet aircraft was, “Great change of pace…” For me, it is a world of difference, especially since these aircraft normally cruise at a much lower altitude than jets. The view of ground activities at the propjet’s altitude remains in 3 dimensions, which makes viewing the landscape much more entertaining to me. The higher you fly, the flatter the Earth becomes. Again sir, thank-you so very much for the time and effort you put into your flight review. Also, please be sure to remind me to Brandon. Please keep up the great work. By the way, I just finished watching Brandon’s Victoria plane-spotting video. Is that he who is standing on the ladder?

Did the same flight earlier this year on a Westjet Encore Q400. It was quite glorious flying over the Gulf Islands and as we were landing on 26 we flew round that geographic oddity that is Point Roberts which was fascinating. Like you it was just a shame the flight was so short! If you've not already done so you should try Harbour Air's Turbine Otter or Twin Otter seaplanes between Victoria and Vancouver harbours. Better still, book yourself on their 'Mail Run' to Ganges and Maple Bay from Vancouver Harbour. You might even bag a Beaver on the Ganges-Maple Bay leg. Pure avgeek heaven!

Thanks for uploading these nice videos. What I sometimes see, is a stick behind the tail of the plane (not any plane), it goes all the way onto the ground. It's to prevent the plane from tipping over (tail hits the ground). Nice to see that this (very old) method is still being used into the 21st century!

The reference in the description to Pacific Coastal's flights operating for WestJet (as WestJet Link) isn't quite complete. They aren't only in Alberta. They also have several routes involving B.C. including Calgary-Cranbrook, Calgary-Prince George and one route entirely in B.C, Vancouver-Cranbrook. Their cramped Beech 1900Cs appear to be the only ones still carrying passengers in Canada. Most are now operated as freighters. The 1900D with the much taller fuselage was a big improvement.

@flamedude177
@flamedude177 4 жыл бұрын
@@BPanio Its not dirt and grime its just engine exhaust soot, there is no point in cleaning it because it would just come right back again. The reason you don't see this on Jazz or something is because the exhaust pipes on Q400s is at the back of the wing unlike PT6 engines where they are at the front (like on the 1900). Those planes are in such great condition compared to other regional airlines in the area, that black stuff is purely there due to the design of the plane itself

I fly with Pacific Coastal regularly and have multiple times per month for probably 10+ YEARS. in that time I have never ever heard of it referred to as PASCO by staff or customers. BTW until fairly recently they also had a Grumman Goose based in Port Hardy which serviced small communities on the coast with freight, postal and passenger service. Other than air, these places can only be reached by water and often were too small even for a landing strip.

My only experience with Pasco is having to wait for them at every airport I fly to. Also I'm based out of CYYJ

I maintained some 1900's in Alaska back in the 90's, from the maintenance aspect, I never cared for them. The nose wheel steering system's are so unreliable, most operators remove them from the aircraft and it was always we couldn't get a warning light to come on, or go off, plus nobody ever explained to Beechcraft, why they don't generally build square air tanks lol
