I wanted to take the time to thank you all for watching and supporting this mini-series we made during this uneasy time. I hope for at least a few minutes you could escape this world and fly just as those Seagulls do!

This younger generation is blessed to have a man of that caliber, experience and humbleness to learn from. Master Class indeed!

Anybody else tear up when Joe talked about "When we're up here, we're free?" Just me? But seriously, THANK YOU, Mikey, for doing this project. I'm so glad that you're documenting this, and in such a beautiful way! It's such a fantastic view of not only your father's amazing skills, but a glimpse into his heart, as well.

I have never seen Joe in such a calm and contemplative mood. He is truly in his element when he's flying and explaining the obvious "love of his life", the classic DC-3. Thanks for this tribute to two legends! ♥️🛫

Sometimes it is just difficult to put words to how something you see makes you feel. Words like melancholy and nostalgia come to mind but they barely do justice. Joe’s hand moving through the switches and levers with concise explanation. He knows full well the student absorbs just a little each time but knows it’s worth repeating until fully understood. You’re a rare bird Joe. Just like the plane you fly. Great video Mikey, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Thank You Buffalo Joe for being the stern instructor that you are, your training is so important. I am a retired Naval Aviation Electricians Mate, I made it to first class Petty Ofificer. I worked on and flew as a Naval Aircrewman I starred as a inflight tech on the Convair C131 VIP aircraft, next i flew as a Flight attendant then load master on the Navy version of the DC9 witch carried the designator C9B it had a large cargo door and entry door on the left hand side or the fuselage and the oft ventral stairs in the rear of the aircraft. Next i became a crew chief and NATOPS Evaluator on the Grumman C1A COD {Carrier on bord Delivery aircraft witch flew to and from every aircraft carries off of the west coast next I also was a crew chief and NATOS evaluator on the Rockwell CT-39 E and G models. Ever since I was a young kid I always thought that the DC-3 was such a beautiful plane and still do.

I know this response is late but thoroughly enjoyed this video. In my books, the DC-3 is the queen of the skies, real hands on flying in a bird that has a huge history at altitudes that is far more interesting. Joe is a true master and knows the Gooney like an extension of himself, what a treat ! Always wanted to experience this aircraft, get to know its flying characteristics, quirks, what a gorgeous classic. Also followed you all during the revival of The St Hubert bird that I have seen languishing at the time near a Vickers Viscount back over a decade ago. This is real flying , hands on and enjoy the ride with a seasoned veteran, love this video !

A love letter to the DC-3 thanks to Joe and Mikey. Really touching work and just crazy to think how far you have been on this journey as a storyteller Mickey. Keep it up and know that this fan will always do what he can to support. You should win an award this this one sir :)

Mikey I’ve got to admit, that old DC-3 of your dads is a beautiful lady, tall, sleek, smooth and her twin engines sound like a heavenly hum, I’ve been up in the one at the Yankee Air Museum at Willow Run Michigan and the big agile C-47 was equal to operating an old Cadillac, you don’t fly them, you become a part of the plane, feel the controls respond, caress the plane and let her know your there to maintain and keep her happy through each and every flight. Nothing in my mind is so relaxing as being able to have the honor of flying these old war horses, their so robust, reliable, sturdy that they will be around for many many more years to come. One day I’d love to be able to become a pilot of a dc-3 or C-47 maybe even a “Connie” Pilot. Your dad has instilled a lifelong love and passion for these aircraft in you, he’s done well, he’s the exact person to teach, train and share his undying love for these tall majestic ladies.

It is so gratifying and an honor to see this side of Joe's personality. At times the "ice pilots" show seemed to fixate on Joe's grumpy side, but you can tell from this video he is so passionate about aviation, and respecting the art of flying these old warbirds. He genuinely loves to teach young pilots honest hard work, and respect for the job (safety, risks, etc). Yes he has no time for BS, but like so many mentors I've had in life, he's tough on you because he wants to challenge you to be the best you can be - it always comes from a place of caring. Thank you Mikey for this opportunity to "fly" with Joe.

Amazing work, Mickey. A lot of people who are new to you guys might see this and think, 'ahh, a cool story of a cool dude and his plane'. But in all seriousness, it is a love story. Your dad has an obvious passion and love for flying. It is a beautiful thing. Just like how the new planes don't compare to the old warbirds like the DC3, the same applies to people. Joe is a prime example of how they sure don't make them like they used to. Joe McBryan should receive the Order of Canada. I send my respect from Nova Scotia. Take care, brother.

The DC 3 has always been my favorite plane. Watching Joe put his head out the window to check if the landing gear went down. Flying in a DC 3 is going to have to go on to my bucket list. Thanks Joe and Miley. This video was great.

The mighty DC-3 was the first plan I ever flew on. It's a memory I will never forget and the plane that made me interested in aviation. It's so nice seeing these big old birds still flying. And Buffalo Joe is so passionate about his old girl. It's wonderful! Great series! Thanks :)

I will never get tired of watching a DC 3 take off and land.

To have a teacher and mentor like Joe is all one could ever ask for. The number of people who owe it to Joe must be in the thousands. Every time I see a new video and or rerun. I always stop what I am doing and watch.

The series was great to watch. I got to fly on a DC 3 in Costa Rica years ago. I could see the rivets vibrating on that old bird. We landed on a grass runway in Golfito. Thank you Buffalo staff for the great entertainment.

Simply no better reason to travel to Yellowknife to visit. You'll have to forgive a probable silly-assed grin that hasn't really gone away since I started watching this series. Thank you Joe and thank you Mikey. You've done such a good job on these. You can just feel your Dad's true love of the DC-3. When he said how well they were built and that it'd last forever, I teared up a bit. Still got a lump in my throat 20 minutes later. 👍🙏

I liked watching Ice Pilots but I find these videos far more entertaining. You get the people, the airplanes, and no drama.

I flew with Buffalo Joe in his DC3 many years ago up north. It remains one of my all-time greatest flying experiences. I had never flown in a DC3 before and it was a wonderful experience.

It's always a pleasure to watch someone who is truly competent in his craft.

My first flight in the late 50's was a DC3 from Alamosa CO to Denver with my dad. The next time we did that flight we lost the right engine about 15 minutes out of Denver heading in. I saw the smoke and the pilot feathered the engine. My dad closed the curtain. Great memory and I have always loved DC-3's! Fly on Joe, fly on.

I spent my younger years before I became a CR pilot at Points North Saskatchewan. I got to ride and fly in a lot of wonderful aircraft including the DC-3's they had CQT and NTF. I would love to go have a beer with Joe and talk to him about flying these aircraft. He is 100% correct the aircraft is surprisingly stable and yet responsive as long as pitch, power and trim are managed properly. I loved flying DC-3's for the same reason I loved flying helicopters. They have to be flown. They are tactile aircraft you have to fly but like being around a big dog you learn not to startle them and as long as you don't startle them it's almost effortless. "When we're up here, we're free" truer words were never spoken. Excellent video thanks for posting.

I Really Appreciate Joe's attitude towards mentoring. I Chose to be in Trucking and remember the older Guys that took the time to Give me the Gift of Knowledge. I Listened the best I could to learn all I could. Know I'm an Older Guy and I try to pass on what I can to the younger Drivers. Though I am very selective who I train as Trucking has become a nightmare for the most part. I think that most young People can do better Learning another Vocation. If you have connections to Family excavating, Farming or Trucking concerns I'll teach someone who is really interested. Otherwise you'll make twice as much money being a plumber or a heating and A/C person. And get to have a life too. Plane savers is a Great channel with Great People. Best Wishes from Montana! M.H.

What an absolute treasure. I’ve watched the entire Ice Pilots series at least 5 times, and it never gets old to me. Yellowknife seems like a world away from Dallas, Texas. Maybe I can get up there someday to visit Buffalo.

The feeling is the same from the big boys in the sky to the tiny ones, as soon as the wheels leave the turf for that short while... you’re free. I remember when I flew a tiny Foxbat and it was like being in the land of the birds, all worries vanishing for that short time. The little Rotax carrying us for so long. Wish it could last forever. Glad to see this small series, always liked the DC-3. Like my old Land Rovers, there’s just nothing that can capture the analogue nature of these beasts today.

This tv series was my favorite! I learned a lot! Joe was a real great mentor for me!

As the old saying goes. “Find a job that goes along with your hobbies and you will never work a day in your life” Buffalo Joe definitely lives that quote and it shows. Him whistling along as he walked back to the hanger shows that flight was like riding a old trusted race horse around the track and put it back to rest in the barn, and was going to hang the sattle up till the next run

This is fabulous. My dad flew this plane in WWII in army air corps. I’m sure he would appreciate the upgraded instrumentation! He said it was an incredible work horse.

In a little over 19 days I'll be lucky enough to start working for a UK based historic flying company as volunteer ground crew. They have two DC3's in their fleet and I really can't wait and realize how fortunate I am. This series is just fantastic and devour each episode. I just hope my tutor is of the same calibre as Joe.

I just loved this program when on our tv here in the UK.oh how i wish i could just be there ,,I did 21 hrs training when 30, my instructor said i was a natural, money ran out ,now im 74, so lost my chance to become a pilot ,so so sad , i missed out on a career flying,,i worked on aircraft as a composite engineer since at various airlines in the UK,now long retired , so now just get on my flight sim at home here Oh to be in the clouds,Thank you Joe for Sharing this valuable moment

My wife is flying a DC 3 for a company in South Africa. She was a former F-15 pilot for the Israeli Air Force. She absolutely loves it..." Full of bumps and shmumps". In addition my now deceased uncle used to throw food out of DC 3's in WW2 for the troops on the allied invasion of Europe

Buffalo Joe is the reason why I love the DC-3 so much. Since I was little I have known that I want to be a pilot. The DC-3 is such a cool aircraft and I hope to own one one day! Im only 17 though, so I still have a little while :)

Seems incredible that the DC-3 was manufactured from 1936-1942, and some are still flying today... this is a testament to how rugged and well designed the old 'Gooney Bird' was. That classic 'tail dragger' stance and broad wings were unmistakable back in their day - and it just looked like it wanted to fly and be flown. So well done, the military designated them as C-47's and used over 10,000 of them during WW-II. Truly a Great plane!

Mikey. A huge huge thank you for this great production. It was a treat hearing your Dad's thoughts on the DC3 and of course his tour around the Yellowknife area. I lived in Yellowknife from January of 1959 to January of 1967...Wonderful memories of those years. The many visuals of Yellowknife now, as opposed to the early and mid sixties were amazing and I must admit brought back so many memories of my early flying training days. Hank Hicks of Raven Air was my instructor in the early days and I soloed his Fleet Canuck on skis on Back Bay On April 7th, 1959. When Joe was flying toward Yellowknife Bay I can't tell you how many wonderful experiences flooded my mind from an earlier time and 8 feet or so of ice on the bay. By the way, the airplane was CF-BYW. It's now in the Stan Reynolds museum in Wetaskiwin. Happily at 81, I've not yet suffered the same fate. Your production of this video was great as was the videography. Thank you so much for the whole trip and again to Joe for a ride in the DC-3.

My heart was already full from watching my favourite pilot on the planet. And then I saw who the co-pilot was, who Joe had said so many nice things about, and I literally started to cry. And thank you Mikey for helping your dad come this far in accepting televisions and cameras. I remember he truly didn't like the tv cameras back in I've pilots days around. He seemed to find them an annoyance. But he now sees the love and desire around the world of new generations that share his passion. If work the ramp for THE complaint tree to have the chance to be a pilot or pilot a dc3 for even 10 minutes. It's a dream I've always had. And I dream I know I will go to my grave NEVER fufilling.

Thanks for the flight Buffalo Joe. First airplane I ever flew in was a DC-3. It was actually an RD-4, and we toured the SF Bay area. That was in about 1956 and we were crewed by Naval Reserve people. It was real flying back then not fish in a can like today.

What a great film, Mickey. You dad's a legend. I only wish I could hit that "like" button again. And again. And again. And again.

It's so awesome to see old technology like this still operating! Once I eventually become a pilot, it would be an honor to fly something like this DC-3.
