In this video we're going over how to get good at talking on the radios. Not just really good, but mastering them. Granted... we all make mistakes from time to time and that'll never change! LOL Anyways, we take a dive into how to practice at home AND how to use PlaneEnglish to get good at the coms.
Even though this video was sponsored by PlaneEnglish, they didn't pay me to say nice things. I truly believe in their product and know it can help you. Take your practicing to the next level and give them a try.

Yesterday I flew my first solo into a towered airport (class d) and it was a disaster… I fly an open cockpit biplane and after I announced I was ready to depart I couldn’t make out what the heck they were saying.. the tower asked me “how do you hear? “ I have never heard this term before and had no idea how to respond? I asked for some clarification but that didn’t happen. I ended up sitting there for a while waiting for my next instruction. I ended up switching back to ground frequency to see what I should do. The tower said that they had been calling me but I wasn’t responding (likely because I was on the wrong frequency by that time) they deemed me a hazard and told me to follow a truck back to the parking area. I called them on the phone and they wouldn’t let me fly until I got my radio issues resolved. I asked some friends to bring a hand held and after it arrived I went back out to give it another shot. I ended up departing without incident. Anyhow I’m just sharing this in case it helps someone out 😂 also I don’t think most videos make it clear enough when you should be on ground or tower frequency?

We actually made a series on each type of airspace and the comms required. We go over ground, tower, departure, approach, even clearance delivery. 😊

THE BRAIN DISCONNECT BUTTON IS REAL! And it's funny to hear sometimes. Love it when you have a student stop mid sentence and just hold the button down. You know his instructor is swatting then gets on and makes the call. We've all been there. Once, I heard a student pilot order a food truck....

Maybe contact a traffic controller to ask questions,( ask someone that is off duty) tell them you are want to learn to fly, ask how to ask them to slow down, if other aircraft can watch for you. Ask them to explain the wording they use.

DOH! I forgot the subtitles. "Cessna 600 left at alpha 6, contact ground on 121 point 8. Have a good one" I think she added an extra "right" in there though. May have meant "left right at alpha 6" Regardless, the right wasn't needed.

@flywiththeguys
@flywiththeguys 2 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. You can learn it as you go, which is what I did. But, the number one thing my channel gets hits for is learning to talk to ATC. People are intimidated by it and are constantly looking for ways to get over their fears and get better. Plane English does exactly that and Im happy to partner with on these videos because I believe in the product. If I had know about this when I was training, I would have used it. Sorry to see you go though!
