The FN SCAR 16 is the little brother, and the precursor to the SCAR 17 (heavy) as SOCOM's Mk16. This rifle was widely associated to US special operation forces and US Army Rangers from the 2008-2010 era being fielded in very limited numbers.
It was the rifle that could have become the future of the U.S. military by way of SOCOM, but at the end, it was rejected due to fragility and reliability issues... but FN has spend the time since then working out a lot of the product issues and offering it to the civilian market amongst other foreign governments (like the Belgian military and special operations forces).
So how does the product improved model do on our range? We find out!
FYI, Swiss TAZ90 camo was purchased from Mike's Militaria ‪@MikeB128‬ , no idea how he got a hold of them, but it certainly satisfies the camo nerd in us!

Personally I believe that for a modern rifle with that price tag that also has an adjustable gas piston, for attaching a suppressor to void your warranty is unacceptable. Scar’s are really nice rifles, but for me there are some negatives irrespective to the price and it doesn’t bring anything to the table that I’m interested in so I have no desire to fork over that much cash.

You couldn't be more right. The SCAR 16 is an expensive rifle that doesn't really solve any problems. The 17 was at least a .308 that was light recoiling. This was another overpriced boondoggle intended for federal government service. This was a much an advertisement for the PA 1-8 LPVO or using 77 gr ammo in your 5.56 as anything.

To my mind, the SCAR 17 is *extremely* light for a .308. This makes it very appealing to many end-users. The SCAR 16 is on the heavy side for a 5.56 rifle. It loses a lot of it's appeal. I would much rather have an MCX if I need a folding stock.

I remember using it in bf3 and mw3 so when I turned 18 I always wanted one. Didn’t have the money and bought a kel tec rdb possibly one of the worst rifles I had so I went to my local gun store and traded it in for a scar and about 1200 dollars so I think it was definitely worth it at the time but now I think they are to expensive especially when you have more modern ars like the Bren or a mcx they kinda outshine it. I would still pick my scar though just because it has that cool factor and I always grew up wanting one. Great video by the way love you guys

I like my two 16s and 17. I run KAC guns most of the time but dig the platform. Especially the 16s. Been 100% reliable and surprisingly accurate. And as far as the warranty issues with a can, not too worried about it. My guns are almost exclusively run with cans. Get a different size jet for the gas system or a scarburetor and if you are super worried about it. Hi desert dog also makes a rubber buffer you slide on the recoil spring behind the factory hard plastic stopper that is a good insurance policy against wear and tear to the rear trunion. Once again even with this installed 100% reliable and my rifles have a pretty heavy firing schedule. But to each their own. Some people love it, some people hate it. Great video as always!
@alexc6582

1. Do you run an aftermarket gas block for SCAR suppression? 2. Is the hi desert dog buffer viable?
@jakeblasdel3454
@jakeblasdel3454 2 жыл бұрын
@@alexc6582 on my 16s one is set up with a different jet, the other is standard. I run a pretty efficient can with minimal back pressure so I’m not as concerned about severe over gassing especially with 5.56. I do however run the hi desert dog buffers in both. My 17 is going to get the SCAR-burator. My buddy is using one and it’s pretty slick. Also running a buffer in it. And yes, the hi desert dog buffer is available on the site. They go in and out of stock pretty quick so I would sign up for a in stock notification. They are a great little insurance policy for a low price. I would examine the screws on the rear trunion of the rifles every once in a while if concerned about severe over pressure to make sure they are remaining tight and everything looks good while cleaning but you should have no real problems either way. Just make sure the screws are tight and not oblonging the receiver where they go in. Just use a paint pen and marker to mark the screw and receiver so you can see at a glance. Hope this information helps!

On my Scar 16 which is setup as my main home defense rifle for an urban single family home I put on an Aimpoint M5s with a 2.26” height Unity fast mount, a Surefire Socom compensator with a Warden. Weapon light is Cloud Defensive Rein 3.0 with the tape switch on top. I did remove all the picatinny rails and on the sides abd bottom and installed the Lancer carbon fiber Mlok extended hand rail and PMM rail deletes on the sides. This is to lighten the front end because of the added weight of the CD Rein 3.0 and Warden. The Aimpoint is also to keep a very light rifle compared to an LPVO and not going to be engaging targets past 50-75yds maybe 100yrds max if I’m on the back end of my property line on an Urban single family sized lot.

My 16 is decked out almost like that. Same butt stock. I loooove the look of the scar with that butt stock.

@@borkwoof696 not really a gun channel anymore. More like a podcast and interview and also have a little respect for someone who served. But yeah never understood how they were literally the only ones to ever say the scar17 was unreliable and inaccurate. Everyone I know that has used or owned a 17 has said it’s been phenomenal. My Scar17 w/ 20in barrel with NRCH conversion and I’ve only have one stoppage in my entire history of owning the gun and it was a failure to extract and the very first round thru the gun and ever since then it has work flawless. Never met or talked to anyone with a 20 but as for the 17 is been bulletproof no pun intended.

How well does that weapon perform with iron sights in those shooting conditions on the range ? Also what is the maximum effective range?

I bought my 16 after sandy hook in 2012 and it’s continued to impress me to this day. I now have the CQC barrel, a Timmy trigger, and an ACR stock so no 650yd shots here but very accurate none the less and forth every penny. Great shooting!

Came to comment that exact thing, figured someone else already had. I freaking love my Bren 2 but I’ve never even seen a scar in person so have no clue how they would match up.

I know its more anti-material than DMR/sniper rifle but if you did a video with a PGM Hecate II that'd be pretty epic. Although Idk if you even have the setting to use it to its full range since 1800-2300m is quite a distance.

Do me a favor and get a psa 20" upper. Run it as far as it will go. Im fortunate to have a range off the back deck out to 1 mile. I have a cheap psa 20". shooting that thing out to ridiculous yards always warms the heart. Cheap fun feels better than an expensive good time
