The next instalment in our epic adventure through New England lands us on the shores of Lake Champlain in Burlington, Vermont. There we visit Foam Brewers, who are famous for their hazy IPAs but should be better known for the amazing community they have developed around the artists and designers they work with. We talk brewpubs, breaking out and why time kills art.

What's your favourite brewpub in the world? We loved this place, but also the Russian River and Bear Republic ones were fantastic too.

Hard to pick a favorite but I think it might be Portsmouth Brewery in NH. I used to live in New England and for the past 20+ years my wife and I vacation up there a few times a year. We found Portsmouth Brewery long ago when it was hard to find brew pubs. It was a great stopping point as we traveled north/south on trips. We actually got to know two of the brewers and one of the bartenders who we still stay in touch with. It was probably the first local brew pub we ever found where you could tell it was something the locals enjoyed and gave you a sense of community. After thinking some more about it, I should give a "shout out" to Throwback Brewery in NH and Zero Gravity in VT. Both are building renovated to be a brew pub (Throwback is a barn on an active farm), both have a really great atmosphere, both serve great food, and both have some unique quirks that make it fun. Throwback uses bobble-head dolls to mark your table/party, while Zero Gravity has a Sunday special with a combo beer and bloody Mary that only lasts as long as the bloody Mary sauce lasts.

@@NinjaMonkeyPrime Can't underestimate how important that sense of community needs to be with the local brewery. I feel some of the better known breweries have lost it and become destinations that don't really serve their locals well.

North Fork Brewery in Washington. After a 2 day trip up Mount Baker, smashing an 18" pizza and a bunch perfect beers. Amazing.

Of those I've done in the US, these were probably the most friendly. The beer is also outstanding. Too bad they don't offer flights, but well... :-)

I think being able to see where your beer comes from really makes you appreciate the final product in your hand. Not to mention that it'll be some of the freshest stuff you can drink.

Indeed! It's why the taproom and the brewpub are some of the best places to drink. Beer that tastes exactly as the brewer intended, and with that extra connection that is so vital particularly to people new to beer who might not understand how brewing works and the effort and knowledge that needs to go into it.

got lucky enough to be able hang at foam once. I love it there. managed to snag a great seat at the bar with my brother. A day i will never forget! Sampled a plethora of great brews that day! Great video!

It has been a while since we made it up to that part of VT - it takes a while to get there. I've heard a bunch about Foam recently and want to try it out someday. I think you were lucky to visit in the winter as my guess is they are packed during the summer.

I bet it is. We were there on a Tuesday and by the time we left around 6 most seats were taken.

I clicked on this assuming it would be about what makes a good IPA or something to that effect. Cool video, but the title was a bit misleading for me personally.
