Free upgrade to your seats to be more comfortable and hold you in better, like a bucket seat! The Foamectomy is also a common "tall man mod" that makes it easier for larger people to fit in Miatas. It may be subjective but at least in our experience it does NOT make the car less comfortable, in fact more so! Great easy mod that doesn't take too much time and doesn't cost any money! Except maybe a few zip ties...

After 5 Volkswagens, I'm looking to buy a Na 1.8 within a week or so. Channels like this are a godsend. CarPassionChannel, Ginguim, and you guys have been totally awesome

I watched this video and immediately did this to my 1992 NA6. 30 minutes later, I am finished and everything is reinstalled. I finally sit low enough in the car to see below the (ridiculously tiny) sun visors, and the bolsters on the back are now much more supportive while still comfortable. This is honestly a 300% improvement in every aspect to the seats and I would recommend doing this for anyone, regardless of size. This is a great instructional and entertaining video. Keep it up, guys!

Just in time for Valentine's Day...a hug from your car. Awesome video guys. I've been thinking about doing this myself, but also planning on reupholstering with leather, so I'll probably do both at once. If my seat pans are that rusty, I'll probably spray paint them too...I'm OCD...lol. I have no idea how you guys don't have over 100k subs....your channel has great content!

Thanks man =) Only been doing it for 5 months! and yea well that pan was too far gone to paint, he'll be getting a seat soon so this one won't be staying in for the life of the car anyways! Thanks for the kind words and support!

you should do a video showing the results where you have a passenger in an unmodified seat while the driver is in the modded seat and you guys go through hard corners to see how your bodys react to the side gs
@GearHeadsGarageChannel
@GearHeadsGarageChannel 7 жыл бұрын
not a bad idea, but hard to do with scientific accuracy =P his passenger seat is still stock so we could. But the driver always moves less because they have the steering wheel to hold on to.
@emanualbarakat2777
@emanualbarakat2777 7 жыл бұрын
GearHeads thanks for replying so quick! and yeah I agree about the steering wheel problem but what you could do to solve this is do two runs. one where the driver uses the unmodded seat and the passenger uses the modded seat and switch
@GearHeadsGarageChannel
@GearHeadsGarageChannel 7 жыл бұрын
Maybe! Also driving dynamics might not be exactly the same each time etc. All I can tell you for sure is that it does help quite a bit, especially when you remove that back piece as the side bolstering above your hips becomes way more effective

A electric carving knife works great, also you should do something about that seat pan, it is literally rusted through in places.

To anyone watching this who wants to do this. You don’t need to disassemble your entire seat. Just do it enough so you can get at the foam. It’s all accessible with the seat intact

Good vid guys! Why did you disassemble the whole seat? I have a foamectomy video too on my channel and you can see that when you're only removing the hump you do not need to disassemble the seat. No hate tho! Just curious :-)

M4NOOB Cus we got distracted and left for two days and only had like 30 mins we could work together to finish last night to make the video. I agree tho it was quite dirty! dont worry he'll clean it at some point, and all the crap you saw under the seats he DID remove.

To the guy with the captain america shirt in the beginning, how tall are you? I'm looking for a reference to how well i would fit in a miata. I'm 6'3" and am looking to get one in the near future. Thanks in advance and great video too.

Glad you enjoyed the video! I'm 6'2 and 225-230lbs. Its a small car, but you can make it work if you do a few mods. A Foamectomy like this, a smaller aftermarket steering wheel(we have an episode on that as well in this car we just did) and possibly removing the armrest on the door(they are useless anyways) and replacing with a door strap, all will create a much larger amount of room in the car for you.

Would it be the same exact process for Nb seats? Or are they made different?
@GearHeadsGarageChannel
@GearHeadsGarageChannel 7 жыл бұрын
The process is exactly the same! The seats are a little different but they are put together the same way.

Man this is the most backwards thing I have seen. Okay there may be others. Unless you are super tall and chubby I guess I can see that. But for a small car like this which is not the most comfortable on long rides and a smaller person, man that will be painful. I need more cushion not less on my old car. But it was interesting to see it.

Matts seat is MUCH more comfortable for me now(I'm 6'2 225lbs), and he likes it better too. Its a super common mod and lots of people prefer it this way!
