This video will teach you how to use the new Auto focus bracketing feature on the Fujifilm X-T4! This method is easier than the manual method found on the XT3 and older Fuji cameras. I'll also teach you how to focus stack the files to get an image that is tack sharp from foreground to background using Photoshop or Helicon Focus (brief intro lesson to get you started for both).

Thanks for a really helpful tutorial. I've just purchased an X-T4 and want macro shots of jewelry. Stacking seems the perfect way of getting the best out of the subject. I followed your instructions right up to setting point B. I hit back to come out (no confirmation that it's been setup, as you say) and when I press the shutter, it only takes a single shot. Can you throw some help as to why this is happening? It's been updated to latest firmware. Thanks in advance :)

Hi - thanks for this helpful video! Two observations, in about 4:13, if you look at the LCD screen there appears to be a yellow bar on the distance scale - is this giving you confirmation of the A-B range set? I think it might be, which would be confirmation of what was set. Second, I think if you use electronic shutter the burst rate may be a little faster than in mechanical shutter? Again I am not sure, but thought I would mention it, just in case it was helpful! Thanks again for this video.

Great video! I have a question..... The majority of what I like to shoot are landscapes using exposure bracketing, typically from 3 to 5 bracketed images and using the best 3 that I then run through Aurora 2019 to combine exposures... and then edit the resulting photo so that it looks more natural. I've been searching for a way to be able to automatically FOCUS stack to get an in-camera totally in focus image at all distances, and THEN exposure bracket 3 to 5 shots of that completely in focus (at all points) image. I've been looking to find a camera to best achieve this. In order to do this on the Fuji XT4, how would you set up to get exposure bracketed images that are automatically Focus Stacked? And is there another camera better suited for this?

Hello, thanks for viewing 🙏 Other than Photoshop, I only know of Helicon Focus for focus stacking. If you are serious about photography, I would highly recommend using the full version of Photoshop. I have been using it since 1999 and have never regretted getting any version of it. It is an indispensable photo tool and is well worth learning.

Great video. When I use the same 'Auto - focus bracketing' with my Xt4, I end up with 200-300 photos. This is with flowers as close as possible to the lens. Comparing the focus distance range on your video compared to mine, your focus range is much greater (ie my a and b points are almost on top of each other). Why do I get so many photos?

Great video and extremely informative. Just started trying this today and some concerns: A and. B visual selections go away quickly before selections can be made. This could useful but I am having trouble implementing it. I have all the stuff you used in this presentation so interested if you could go step by step, especially when doing front/back selections. My screens stop before e selections can be made.
@themagicallandscape
@themagicallandscape 4 жыл бұрын
Hello, thanks for the question...yeah, I have the same problem of the selections going away quickly. My solution is to just keep rotating the focus ring to keep them up as long as you need them. It's basically just like if your screen saver on your CPU monitor is set way too fast to engage. I'm hoping this issue gets fixed in a firmware update.

Hmm...maybe try maunually setting the bracketing, and when it's finished, take some shots where you manually focus the front items for safety. Also, make sure you aren't closer than your minimum focus distance of your lens. What lens and aperture are you using?

Question when you zoom in what back button/dial setting are you using? Does the Auto function jump to B or stay at A after zooming? Do these focal plane selection points remain if a new shot is made? I’m finding this to be very jittery! Fuji are you listening?
@themagicallandscape
@themagicallandscape 4 жыл бұрын
@Dr. Lopuck, DDS I zoom in clicking in on the rear command dial which is factory default for magnify. It should stay at A until you click "ok." Once you find your focus point for B, instead of clicking OK, click Disp/Back and you should be set. Then half press the shutter to get back into shooting mode and fire away. Setting the function takes a little too much faith instead of firm confirmation that you have set your points correctly. I wish the guides didn't go away so quickly and wish the camera gave confirmation that you are ready to release the shutter.

The "Auto" focus bracket is only on the XT4 as far as I know. But the Focus Bracketing where you can set it manually is on the T3, T2, T-30 and probably on a couple more models. You have to decide on how many shots and start with the nearest part you want in focus first. Takes some trial and error with the manual version, but it works well, too, from my exp with the XT3 and XT2.

Do you feel that using focus stacking takes away from the simplicity of the subject being photographed? What I mean is, like in my landscapes if there’s not anything close I want in focus and it doesn’t need to be in focus to tell the story I’m trying to tell, I just don’t bother. I suppose it’s personal preference. I personally believe the story is or what I’m trying to get the viewer to see is more important.
@themagicallandscape
@themagicallandscape 4 жыл бұрын
I agree...I look at focus stack as a tool. Like in film editing, there are different types of cuts to tell a story. If someone uses quick cuts and is trying to tell a story of calm or serenity, it just doesn't match. The cut just ends up being a flourish, a "look what I can do" type thing. So yeah, I like using focus stacking if it makes sense for the scene. If not, then just a regular focus shot. A lot of people love Bokeh. I love that blurry background too, but again, more effective when it's used in the right situation.
@gmcubed

its useful for smaller objects, like toys in a dark environment. Its easy for things to fall out of focus when you dont intend for them to. stacking would help with this.

Nice demo but if I follow your method I get one photo. No stacking. I set point A, then if I set point B and click OK, then click back, then release the shutter I get a single photo. Please elaborate on the settings you are using this is driving me nuts! It seems the only way it will take a series of photos is if I set point A then adjust focus for point B and WITHOUT CLICKING OK to then release the shutter. I did this and got a series of nearly 60 images focus stacked. Why does this work differently for you. Very confusing.
@ben_blair
@ben_blair 3 жыл бұрын
So I just consulted with the manual. You’re not supposed to hit OK after you select point B. You are supposed to hit BACK and the release the shutter. Hitting OK again after B allows you to reset point A again. Strange that this worked for you. It should not have.
