Joined a gym first time 2023 at 51. Originally started to loose weight(belly) and address knee arthritis thinking i was going to use the bikes and treadmills. After two months of bike and treadmills i started to explore the gym and all its equipment. Thanks to mind pump and channels like dr lyon i have become addicted to lifting every 2 days.I wish I would done this 30 years ago. Just started to get confidence to use leg press with my knees. First winter where my knees dont hurt. I'm getting more confidence to try squatting with my knees. I'm really excited about this journey.

Hi just have to comment. Vegan bodybuilder here. I don’t eat beans in bulk and have no problem getting ample protein. I will be 50 in March. I’m the strongest I’ve ever been in my life. To give you a sense, I can deadlift 225 for reps. OHP is a couple 40s. I haven’t tried to do a one rep max because it’s not worth injury at my age, but point being I have experienced gains. I eat tofu and tempeh as main sources. Whole foods and no processed crap. I do supplement with B12, creatine mono, and protein powder (but not a lot of it!). Haven’t had any issues with perimenopause thankfully and really attribute this to strength training and increasing lean mass. As Dr. Lyon says…muscle = longevity 🙌🏻. I also teach 7-8 classes a week for fitness here in nyc. I have more energy than the 20 and 30 something’s in my classes. Stress management is essential and track hrv as well. Anyway just had to share because I’m vegan for the animals. It’s not a ‘diet’ for me…it’s a way of life. I’m proof that it can be done.

I'm a vegan, 59 yo male and I doubled my squat this year from 135 lb as a newb to 275 lb. Deadlift 365. Bench 235. I never squatted or deadlifted in my life. I'm 6'2" and went from 156 lbs to 187 lbs in that same time and still have abs. At least 20 lbs of that was muscle. I plan dial back my protein this year. Let's see if I still gain muscle and strength. 32:33 Dr. Lyon said, "People did exactly as they were told to do..." regarding the food pyramid and cholesterol recommendations. What world does she live in where Americans followed the food pyramid and cholesterol recommendations? The Standard American Diet is a junk food diet filled with animal products, high saturated fat, sweets, and salt. It's not the food pyramid or the current "healthy eating plate" diet. And the argument that Americans currently eat 70% plant products, so increasing it will make things worse, is a bad argument for the same reason. The SAD has nothing to do with eating whole food plants. It's about eating Big Mac and fries. If she is seriousily making these arguments, nothing that comes out of her mouth about nutrition should be trusted. The same goes for Peter Attia. They may have good knowledge about exercise, but that's it.

@@jakubchrobry3701 yeah her statements there really bothered me. As if the standard American diet is the same as a balanced plant based diet. Pure nonsense.
@amiraclemens92187 ай бұрын
@@jakubchrobry3701I totally agree. I was riding with her until she made this point. No one needs animal protein. Americans are not sick from eating plants. They’re sick from eating processed crap.
@Vanityofvanity7 ай бұрын
Yes, me too. She says American diets are already 70% plant-based but I’m sure this most likely includes potatoes in the form of french fries and possibly wheat in the form of processed bread, crackers, etc. seen a lot of testimonies of people that have turned around their health and gained muscle on a plant-based diet.

I am in my 50’s and hated weight training because I only did it during extreme weight loss programs. MAPS Prime and your focus on “practice” vs “working out” has helped me embrace weight training as a lifestyle. In the same way, Dr Lyon’s fact based approach to explaining why “building muscle” needs to be the focus over “losing weight” has put me on the path to better long term health. I started my fitness and health journey around 10 years ago. And now, at the age of 36, I am in my best shape ever and as healthy as never before. It took me a few years to figure out how to work out properly and not just focus on the mirror, but rather on how I feel and how I want to feel when I get older. After finding that out and listening to my body, not only do I have more energy, but also my body just changed and I look as "good" as never before. You guys played a crucial role in that. Through your wisdom I was able to pay more attention to what I do, how I do it. Stopped continuously overtraining and just feel and look great. I can not thank you enough for all the knowledge. For MAPS Anabolic, Aesthetic, Performance. It literally changed my life! Thank you. Not that I am getting closer to 40, the new program just seems to be the logical step on my evolution to longevity and an amazing private life! Again, thank you All the love from Germany, Marcus

I was concerned at 47 I would not be able to recover muscle mass. With my prior knowledge, your show and input like DR. Lyon and Dr. Atiia, I’ve dropped from 267 to 232 with significant muscle regain. I’m in a cut to 220 aiming for February and then sustain. Dr Lyon’s book is on my coffee table and my first priority after I retire in 43 days is to deep dive into this book with my laptop, journal and mechanical pencil ready to take notes. I’m lucky to have been strength training most of my adult life starting at age 20 when I somehow stumbled into body builder Lisa Lyon (any relation?), but I gave up the heavy lifting about 30 years ago and stuck to the 10# and 12# dumbbells, etc. I finally realized in 2023 that heavy lifting and protein focused are what I need. I’m 64, In the best shape of my life in all ways and living pretty well with several autoimmune conditions, mostly in remission. Thank you for bringing these great conversations, especially Dr Lyon.
