This is the basic training video I purchased after graduating from U.S. Army Basic Training/AIT (OSUT) for MOS 11B at Ft. Benning, Georgia in December, 1988. It was originally on VHS and I had it converted to digital. I was part of Alpha Co, 2/54 Infantry at Albanese Barracks (starship) in good old Sand Hill. There is a 5-10 minute portion toward the end that is of my actual unit going through training. If anyone seeing this happened to be there at the same time as me, please reach out....As for everyone else, enjoy the memories!

@@Joseywales414 exactly what a bunch of pussies they are today. I went through in 98' I had drill sargeants that served in desert storm, Panama and some operations down in Central America which I wasn't even aware of till they talked about their experience in the army. My drill Sargeant was a sniper he had a confirmed kill at 800m with an M-16 that was his way of telling us we have the best weapon system in the world lmfao, not sure how much of that story is true but he was a pretty decorated soldier and he was one tough mother fucker, this is all pre war on terror stuff but these guys were tough as nails and they loved and I mean loved their PT, we got smoked all the time

This is exactly how it was in the 80s. Very chill atmosphere, chinstraps optional. Lots of relaxing music while you clean. Rarely a drill sergeant yelling or trashing wall lockers upon failed inspection.

Hoo-wah to all my fellow 11B-P infantrymen, Brings back a lot of memories. This video made it look a lot easier than it was, and made the Drill Sergeants look a lot more gentle than they really were. I didn't see much footage of Harmony Church in there or the cattle cars they used to carry us in to the ranges we went to each day for training. . I was there at the Harmony Church barracks A-9-2 (4th Pl) from September to December 20, 1984 for BASIC and AIT, then after doing hometown recruiter's aid for 30 days afterward (in NH), I was stationed at Ft Benning with C Co, 1/58th Infantry, 197th Brigade for the first half of my 3 year tour. The Army slogan was Be All You Can Be. That's why the Lord had me in the Army and stationed there at Fort Benning. Because there at Benning after I completed Airborne School, I cam to know Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior through a fellow Airborne Infantryman, who led me to the Lord. Only then was I able to be all I could be. You can read my testimony here: budapesttestimonies.blogspot.com/2011/02/truth-set-me-free.html I later went on to serve in Berlin with the Berlin Brigade where I was a Recon Scout on the Berlin Wall from 1986 - 87, and later a Lt Colonel's driver (Battalion Cmdr). Thanks for posting this video.

B-9-2, Class of 1987, 11C. Whoever made this video back in the day did not capture the reality very well. They left out the Shark Attack. They left out all of the yelling, screaming, and profanity. The cadence calls alone are X-rated and would melt a Snowflake of today in two milliseconds. There was no "preparing for the gas chamber". We were ambushed. That's when you found out if your mask worked or not. Still fun to reminisce.

Bradford, I was there in june 87 Bravo Company 3/32 infantry. You were there almost a full year after I was. Those barracks look awfully familar. The NBC training grounds may be the very ones I was at. During the time we switched from Piss Pots to Cavalar helmets. We had M-16a1s. I went to Ft. Wainwright Alaska. This video is a video of a time long past. Thank you so much for sharing it.

@@BradfordBeckett I found some of my old paper work from that time. We started off as Bravo 1/1 then during basic we were changed to Bravo 3/32. I have an interesting question. Do you remember when you switched M-16 rifles from the A-1's to the A-3's? I have gotten some responses stating that its impossible to have received M16A-3's before 94 but I have an old vhs video of us at a range where the Range officers are identifying the rifles as M16A-3's. I have old manuals from that time identifying them as A-3's. MInd you, I was handed the M-60 and was never allowed to switch so I really wasn't concerned until some of the 'demon possessed hitler youth' experts started harassing me on line. Do you have any recollection as to when you received the upgrades from the M16A-1's to the next M16A-2's or 3's?

@@Dbusdriver71 In 1988, we qualified on the A2s (trained on A1s, also) but when I got to my active duty unit we all had A1s. We also qualified on the M60 and trained on the M2, 203, LAW rockets, dragons, AT4s, and the "new" M249 SAW - which became my assigned weapon as a new 11B at my duty station. I think the A3 did away with that 3-round burst of the A2, but I don't know I've ever used one.....not even years later when I was in the National Guard.

@@BradfordBeckett I don't expect you to answer this for I believe you but why the hell would an E-8 and a couple of E-6's identify them as M-16A-3's Then!? Why would they tell us that?! I don't want to admit to the 'demon posses Hitler Youth' out there that they may have been right. The AT sections had 90mm recoiless rifles before the Dragons came in. the M-249 SAW was junk! We were told the M203's were the new version after the M-79. As I said, when they handed me the M-60 They never let me 'put it down'. But thank you for your response! I can't believe they would either mislead us or be so mistaken! Why would they do this.

I was in echo 4bn 2nd inf. Harmony Church was the location. It was different in 1984, the reception center was like a jail cell. We then went to our company barracks and put our civilian clothes, stuff in a plastic bag and was stored in a room in the barracks. No finance or whatever, straight to the barracks and the drill sargeants. This video is alot of fluff. It was hard, we had a fight everyday. I always would just watch the fights, someone pushing someone else.

A-9-2 14 Aug-8 Nov 1985. I seem to remember it much more intense than what I’m seeing here. This video is a promotional marketing (propaganda) piece. Take for example the part where it says we met our drill sgt for the first time. It doesn't show him getting on the bus and telling us we have x seconds to get off his bus and fall into formation. Instead it shows some video of a graduation ceremony for Drill Sgt school!! That had absolutely nothing to do with us meeting our Drill Sgts. And the mood/atmosphere was no where near as mellow as at the Drill Sgt grad ceremony either. It was loud and very pushy with lots of push ups. We had Senior Drill Sgt Spencer, Drill Sgt Rouse, and a former Marine named Drill Sgt Baker who was pretty tough. A-9-2, 4th Plt, graduated 11B Dec '84.
