Thanks for the kind words! I’m so glad that you’re finding value in the videos on my channel. Cow print in fondant can be achieved with inlays, BUT you must brush just the edges of the inlaid fondant with a small amount of water to secure the black/brown inlaid fondant accents to the adjacent white fondant BEFORE rolling the entire piece of fondant together (as one piece) a few times. I am making my first birthday cake for a child’s Lego Birthday next month. I was very nervous before looking at this. Quick question…for the Lego pieces should I make them earlier or can I make them and place them on the cake when it’s done? I think it’s the 2nd one as I don’t want the fondant pieces to dry in place. Just thought I would ask.
@AsiaCoffee
@AsiaCoffee 8 ай бұрын
Hi. First off, thanks for watching! If you’re planning to make Lego blocks, I would NOT use fondant to do this. I used coat coating (wafers like Candy Melts) to make the Legos you see on the cake in video! You can make these several days ahead of time and just place them on your cake when it’s complete. Here’s a video where I show how to effectively do so using a silicone mold: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p9lkdph11rSro5s.htmlsi=SZDKMf6k5Ok89h5m. Excuse the format… this video was from when I first started out on KZfaq! 🫣😂

Hi! I’m adding fondant decorations to a cream cheese Swiss meringue buttercream covered cake. If I put the fondant decorations on the cake, then put cake back in fridge, should I be concerned about condensation? I’m planning to pack up the cake into box and wrap in plastic wrap, will the decorations be ok then ? I’m afraid they’ll fall off 😱 And When should I instruct customer to take cake out of fridge? I appreciate any tips you may have! TIA!!! Love your videos! It’s my second time using fondant decorations but first time with cream cheese buttercream and I’m nervous!
@AsiaCoffee
@AsiaCoffee 2 жыл бұрын
Your fondant decorations should be fine as you’ve described how you’re planning to store your cake. Additionally make sure that your refrigerator isn’t too cold! Removing it from the refrigerator about an hour before the party should be fine. There may be some minimal condensation, but don’t wipe it from the cake. It will evaporate on it’s own. Best of luck!

Hi there! Thanks for watching! I have a couple of tips for you…. 1) You’ll want to make sure the fondant is nice and pliable before you start and while you’re modeling. If your fondant is cracking or feels dry, spritz it with a little bit of water and knead the moisture into the fondant. 2) Try not to make your topper too far in advance because it will dry out! I would only do it 2 days in advance at most. I hope this helps!

It sounds like you’re having issues with high humidity (a lot of moisture in the air). Satin Ice has a “tropical” fondant that is supposed to perform better in hot and humid climates. Otherwise, you may trying adding a small amount of tylose powder or CMC to your fondant to cutouts to help with this issue. Thanks for watching!

If you want the chips to dry solid and be for decorations only, I would recommend using gum paste instead of fondant. They will be completely dry in 24 hours or less with gum paste. If you’re using fondant, it will take a couple of days for them to dry. Use fondant if you want to eat the chips!

@@AsiaCoffee Thanks! Doesnt corn starch leave like white spots? How do you remove the white from colored fondant?
@AsiaCoffee

@ivannaivanova8542 Correct, it does leave some residue. Start by removing the residue by gently brushing it away with a soft, dry pastry brush. If there’s still white residue, you can remove it with a little bit of steam. Be careful with this technique! Leaving the steam on the fondant too long will cause it to become wet and sticky. It’s important to use a little bit of steam. Best of luck!

@AsiaCoffee
@AsiaCoffee 3 жыл бұрын
That is a very good question! I do NOT add Tylose powder to my fondant to stiffen it. I've used it in the past and just don't care for it. If my fondant feels a little soft (usually due to the heat from my hands), I allow it to sit out for up to 10 minutes uncovered. This typically works for me. If I need any decorations to dry completely stiff (i.e. for toppers, etc.), I use gum paste instead.😉

@AsiaCoffee
@AsiaCoffee 3 жыл бұрын
Two weeks is a bit long to start making a topper from fondant. It will dry out so much within a couple of days that you won't be able to keep working without it crumbling to pieces. If you want to work in advance and maintain workability, I would highly recommend making your topper from modeling chocolate instead. I've used it for the faces on my bust cakes because it allows me to work little by little over several days. Thanks for watching!

@AsiaCoffee
@AsiaCoffee 3 жыл бұрын
A couple of things to prevent your fondant decorations from drying: 1) Don’t make them too far in advance. I would recommend no more than 2 days in advance for toppers, no more than 1 day in advance for plaques and no more than 2 hours for smaller accents being placed directly on a cake. 2) To keep smaller accents from drying out and cracking, keep them lightly covered with plastic wrap. If you have a smaller Wilton practice board, keeping them under a plastic sheet helps. Thanks for watching!

@@marijohnson907 Sounds like it was only partly dry, then it cracked from being flexed when you moved it. Did you allow the decoration to dry flat then try to put it on a rounded surface?

@@AsiaCoffee I knew that I wouldn't be able to curve it once it dried so as soon as I was done, I set it on the rounded surface so it would dry in that shape. But when I checked on it this morning, it broke in half.

@@marijohnson907 That’s frustrating; so sorry to hear that... It sounds like your fondant needed a little more time to dry. Humidity plays a huge part in this. If it’s been raining, snowing or just plain muggy where you are, it’ll take longer for the fondant to dry. For fondant pieces that are purely for decoration (meaning you want them to dry hard and be removed from the cake before consumption), I would recommend adding gum paste or tylose powder to the fondant. This will help the decoration dry harder and faster. I would also recommend: After creating your fondant decoration and laying it over a curve, gently pin around it to prevent it from shifting in any way. If you’re really bothered by the cracking AND you have the time, remake it with the adding gum paste or tylose powder. I hope this helps!

It sounds like you're in a place where the humidity is very high. I would recommend that you store your fondant in an airtight container in a refrigerator. You'll also want to work with the fondant in a temperature controlled room (i.e. with air conditioning). This should help!

How to stick fondant to chocolate ganache
@AsiaCoffee
@AsiaCoffee 3 жыл бұрын
Because ganache dries hard, you'll need to mist some water over your cake before covering it with fondant. If you're just applying fondant accents onto the ganache, brush a little bit of water onto the back of them before placing onto your cake!
