I just watched an interview with Billy Corgin (Smashing Pumpkins) where he basically complained for 15 minutes about how he has literally hundreds of new song ideas but people only want to hear the big hits and he hates playing them. Then I come here and watch this and you can physically see Dave Grohl's face light up when he talks about how many times he's played Everlong and how it still feels good. What a contrast.

@@phililili23 'Nasty breakup' aka Dave cheated on Louise Post with Winona Ryder while Veruca Salt was touring down in Australia. Somehow Dave forgot to mention the conclusion of this relationship which inspired such a impactful song.

Dave's train of thought always impresses me. "We need to find that demo. We should release it." 95% of other musicians NEVER want their raw work exposed because to them they don't want anyone to see anything but their finished vision for the song. Not Dave. He understands that the journey is half the fun. Fans deserve to experience some of that journey as well.

My brother played this song for my sister at her wedding, and it was a big part of her life. She passed away a month ago, and I don't think I'll ever be able to listen to this song without thinking of her, and that is in no way a bad thing. If anything it's made it more meaningful for me.

Taylor played Everlong live hundreds of times over 25 years. That's a hard song to play, and he was able to do it with Dave Grohl right in front of him. That's how you know he was one of the greatest. R.I.P.

Everything Taylor said is true, I remember having this album early on because I loved the first one so much. Everlong was great but it wasn't any bigger than any of their other songs until years later. I never even saw the video until much later... I will always remember going to visit the grave of a friend of mine who was killed by a drunk driver at the age of 14 (this is in 1997) I was in the passenger seat, my mom was driving and we were almost at the cemetery when this song comes on the radio. I started to lose it at that line "if everything could ever feel this real forever" by the time we got to my friend's grave I was a mess... powerful emotions...thanks to this song I will always remember my friend. RIP Brandon, my thoughts go out to your mom & your sister

Oh dude, as soon as i got my hands on that record and devoured it i instantly loved everlong and regarded it as the stand out track on the album, you know, the one gem that you go "that is gonna be big or at least should be" the one you want to pump to your friends or at a party.

I know this comment is going to get lost in here somewhere, but Everlong truly is the only song to make me tear up whenever I hear it. First song I learned on Guitar and Bass. First Rock song I memorized the lyrics to. First song I sang to my first love. The song I played during my subsequent first major heartbreak. My sister even knows that I want this song to be played at my funeral. It just speaks to me in a way that I don’t understand.

He got it right at the end... I remember when I finally saw them live, singing Everlong, it was just awesome and magical and I felt deeply connected with it. +krorks same for me I remember I had to leave the crowd for a while in the middle of the gig cos I hadn't eaten all day and I felt like I was going to collapse it took me ages to get something to eat because I had to find a cash machine. Anyway once I had eaten whilst watching them from a distance I heard them start everlong so I ran back through the crowd to where my mate was standing earlier. I found him just as Dave started singing the first verse of everlong and it was amazing, stood there in a crowd of thousands of people with a shared love for this band singing along to an incredible song with one of my best friends who I have been playing music with since I was 13 by my side. That moment was unforgettable they rarely come as perfect.

I actually woke up to this song as a kid (wasn't wayyyy into rock just yet but just enough to dip a toe in) but I kept asking "Who the fk is that??? WHO IS THAT???!??" (Said as my radio was on a rock station of course) and the radio guy never said who it was after the song ended. Fast forward a year or 2 later and they finally said it (because I'd always come late on the song). Fast forward even further to when Little Nicky (the movie) came out and they had the scene where Everlong was as an acoustic version and I just melted everywhere (still one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard both acoustic and regular).

The Foos must have a treasure trove of amazing unreleased material and alternate takes. I hope there's a Foo Fighters box set one day. Throw in the PPV from Atlanta in 2000 while they're at it.

what is he talking about? I heard Everlong 8 bajillion times when I was a teenager - it was all over MTV - and I couldn't get enough of it. Still can't get enough of it. I used to set the bass boost on my cassette walkman - BETWEEN high and low - it would make the headphones super loud - I taped my buddy's copy of Colour and Shape

Love seeing what go on behind the scenes.. And Dave’s always down to earth. In ‘82 I was a senior at a private school in Az and this 9 grader “kid” came in 1/2 way thru the year... he was (still is) a guitar phenom. We’d jam Police tunes and Curtis would play Stings bass lines and Andy Summers pieces on the same guitar at the same time, perfectly. I remember like it was yesterday. I understand he went on to produce stuff for Motörhead, Train and The FOO FIGHTERS. Check out CURTIS MATHEWSON Vexe’ music. Bravo

I love how Taylor sort of knows all the ins and outs of the history of the band as if he's a fan and not really a part of the band, you can tell he's so proud to be a part of this band

I totally remember what Taylor is talking about. When that album came out none of us said it was "the cookie" or something, it had to marinate for many years to become the classic that it is

I got this album when it was first released and I had only heard My Hero on the Radio and MTV. After playing that song out a few times I just put the CD on repeat all and went to sleep. When I awoke I had 2 new favorite songs Everlong and Hey, Johnny Park ! I was a hipster before it was uncool and I took great pleasure in the fact that most people would overlook those songs. When they released the Everlong video I thought, I'll always have Johnny Park.
