Welcome!
We are a homesteading, homeschooling family of 7. Due to recent events (job loss/career change, health issues, rising food costs, etc.) we are having a hard time making ends meet despite our best efforts at frugality. So we are tapping into our local food banks to help us feed our family. Come along as I show you what we are blessed with, what we add to it via grocery store and garden, and how I use it all to nourish our bodies.
Thanks for watching and God bless!

The Human chocolate is my favorite. It doesn't have dairy and I cannot have dairy. That stuff is expensive! I allow myself 2 squares a day. My son gets it for me at a Grocery Outlet for about 4.00 a bar.

I have had to be *completely* dairy free for 2 of my nursing babies (dairy triggered eczema) and it can prove difficult. I'm so glad you've found a sweet treat that works and a less expensive way to make it happen.

My older ones like having Ramen as a snack, especially the ones that have work and come home hungry and dinner is not ready yet. My friend gave me one of those HU Hazlenut choclate bars and man! I agree, it was delish!!! Oh, fun! We also got one of those Roulette Dorito chips to try today, and the kids LOVEd it but we like to see how far we can go for hot chips. LOL

Great haul right now with food prices being so high its hard to buy the organic items i wish i could buy grass fed meats but its more important that bellies are full instead of organic if i can get something organic for the same or very close to the same price i will pick organic but my food budget is $600 to feed my husband, myself and 3 high school age kids 2 of which are boys i make all of our meals from scratch due to severe allergies on my part but i hope to someday be able to buy higher quality, clean, groceries. This summer i am canning all of our produce from our garden and farmers market hipe you have a great week.

You definitely have access to an incredible food pantry. I have never seen such high end items given through a food pantry. Fancy, fancy! Normally a food pantry offers basic staple grocery items. I’m new to your channel and have not seen any dairy, veggies or meats in your hauls. Do they not offer them?

It is very hit and miss. Sometimes we get a pretty good amount of those but often times we get more shelf stable items, lots of snack type things and such.

I just watched another channel that was blessed with very similar items. Do pantries general have the same items? What is one item you wish you could get regularly?
@weepingwillowhomestead
@weepingwillowhomestead Жыл бұрын
Most food pantries get at least some of their hand outs from a larger hub from their state. So it is common to see different food banks in the same state/region have many of the same things. But I also follow a lady halfway across the country from me who often gets very similar things as I do.

As for items we love getting: the staples! Meat, cheese, milk, eggs, fresh veggies and fruit. Often we get lots of nonparishable snacky foods but not as much of the less shelf stable staples.

I’m so so happy that you all make out so well at the food bank. That’s so great. Can I ask about the microwave? Is that a I can’t afford one or a thing that you just don’t want one? I’m just curious . Please don’t think I’m being rude by asking. I never ever judge anyone I promise you that . I absolutely love your channel ❤

A combination of things. I don't 100% trust them (more about reducing nutrition in the food than about microwaving my brain or something lol). They are expensive to buy brand new and the last two new ones we've bought only lasted a couple years, max. So if I buy another one, I will likely just buy a used one from a thrift store or yard sale. I have no issue just not having one but my husband is starting to put up a fuss. Lol He's less patient than me on waiting for the toaster oven.

@@weepingwillowhomestead oh ok. That makes sense . Thank you for sharing that. I don’t use mine to much but my hubby uses it a lot too. @weepingwillowhomestead
@weepingwillowhomestead Жыл бұрын
Seed oils like.vegetable, canola and such are highly processed and highly inflammatory. We much prefer to stick with less processed and mostly animal based ones. Avacado and olive are OK (though olive should not be heated). Lard, coconut and butter are my preferred.

You got a lot of stuff and I am sure your kids are going to be fine even with some seed oils from time to time. I think you are completely right to prioritize paying for the good stuff like vegetables and meat when you get a lot of other things for free. Sadly, some parents will not do that even if they have the change and we need to remember that. Doing what is best and what works for you is all you can do. While I can eat canned vegetables, I get it, very few and good if you ask me and most of the time they are pretty slimy so I understand not fighting with that. One of the few things l think is fine canned is asparagus and pickled onions, most of the rest, sorry, I pass.
