You can seap the Mylar bags with an iron, but might want to use a piece of parchment paper or cloth so the iron doesn’t touch directly.

Unfortunately, rodents and other critters can and will chew through even 7 mil thick Mylar bags, which is why it is best to store your filled, heat-sealed Mylar bags in a lidded bucket or tote to help protect them. Also, sharp-edged foods such as certain types of dry pasta, etc., can poke holes in Mylar bags. One tip I have heard that people in humid climates do to help protect their cans of stored food from rusting is to apply a thin layer of melted paraffin wax all over the can. Once the wax dries, it provides a protective barrier to prevent moisture from rusting the cans :-)

Thanks for your comment and suggestion. I know that rodents will chew wiring so they certainly can chew through Mylar. The bucket would protect it. It would be a good use of buckets which damaged lids or damage to the bucket itself. With the smaller bags in a bucket you would have it divided into smaller quantities and it would be easily stackable, too. Great thoughts!
