This production is the first in a series of seven videos. It introduces novice outbreak investigation team members to the concept of foodborne illness and the current health and financial burden it has in the United States. This video also offers a historical perspective on the changes that have occurred within the food industry and their effects on public health and food safety professionals today.

Who is more likely to become ill? All of these answers are correct 9. Which foodborne illness causes the most deaths in the USA? Salmonella 10. What are some of the consequences of foodborne illnesses in Canada and the USA? -A foodborne illness may have a massive impact on jobs -Many deaths may happen from a foodborne illness -People may have long term effects from this illness -Billions of dollars may be lost -Companies may lose plenty of customers 11. Why do health officials have to be careful in making an announcement about a foodborne illness outbreak? They have to be safe because the massive amount of money loss that may happen and they need concrete evidence on why and how this food outbreak happened.
