Could you share dietary supplements and diet suggestions that can be purchased online? We live in a tropical en 9:10 9:11 - no vet on my island. 🙏

@@phyllisain Hi Phyllis, I'm not sure I fully understand your question. When you refer to "dietary supplements" and "diet suggestions", are you referring to weight loss or nutrient supplements and meal suggestions to purchase online? I'm going to assume the later. In that regard, I would need to know if you are currently preparing homemade meals for your dog and if you have current recipes. Perhaps you are just looking for online complete/balanced meals? Most of my clients come to me for two reasons: 1). The homemade meals they are currently preparing are suspected for health issues they have, or 2). They know their homemade meals are not a complete and balanced meal and will lead to health problems down the road. I generally take their current recipes, determine what nutrients are missing and in what amounts and then complete that meal with additional items to add and balance that meal to NRC (recommended allowances). Although, I do create my own meal recipes as well from scratch. I have found over the years, that a least 90% of the meal recipes I have reviewed from clients, are deficient in the same nutrients over and over again (some much worse than others). Again, please provide more detail on what it is that you are planning/looking for and I'm sure I can help. I'm always willing to help a Westie owner.

Por outro lado, há uma linha médica que diz ser o tamanho da proteína animal. Alguns cães da raça, com a condição genética para DAC, não a digerem bem. Uma veterinária sugeriu introduzir um patê de proteína hidrolisada, para depois introduzir a ração hidrolisada. Mas eles são muito caros. Já pensou em dar salsichas ou mortadelas em vez de carne? Penso que faria bem porque estas proteínas chegariam ao intestino mais quebradas, junto com enzimas que contenham a papaína.

The protein is devided into such small ”parts” that the body can’t reqognise is as a protein and that’s why dogs with food allergy would be able to eat this food and it’s commonly used during elimination diet. My dog can’t eat this food either because of the storage mites.

I do almost everything you mentioned! Yaay! 🎉 He gets sweet potato and broccoli for most meals, carrots I usually chop them fine and use them raw, I have the pure peanut butter and Sami used to love it, but now he refuses it, who knows why 🤷🏻‍♀️ He gets bored like that. I grate cucumber and mix it into the meal sometimes, for water (it helps him poop) 😅 And I add a little honey sometimes, or polen (also great for the immune system and it's something I take, myself, so sometimes I sprinkle some to Sami's food). He is not a fan of most fruit, so I sometimes dice some apple and put it in there (or 100% apple pure, from the babies isle) ☺️ Quail eggs we never tried, I don't know if he would be allergic to all eggs or just chicken... Maybe one day I will try. Eggs are so nutritious, I used to feed him boiled eggs quite often before the allergy test. Thank you so much for your super useful tips!! Yes, it's fascinating for me too. I just started to learn and from what I can see, food has a huge impact not just on allergies but also on overall health. It's a whole new world and I hope to get better at this in time and find a balance.

Oh yes, makes it so much easier! I use my rice cooker, it works as an instant pot and steamer too, so I throw everything in there and it cooks beautifully. I usually do 2-3 rounds of ingredients in it, then I chop/puree, portion them and freeze. It still takes a long time, but it's easier than manual cooking.

I currently cook most ingredients individually because my instant pot/steamer isn't big enough for everything at once, then I store them separately and "make" every meal individually, from 5-6 tupperwares where I keep the foods.😅 That is because I couldn't estimate how much I should add of each, so it's easier when I assemble the bowl. BUT I might have to try it your way because it would be easier and save lots of time of course. I am also thinking adding a scoop of kibble for each meal might be more sustainable, because Sami eats A LOT now (of course, he loves the food), but it's time consuming for me and honestly quite expensive, since the only meats he can eat are the fancy kind! 😂😂😂 So far I see his weight is the same, which makes me think I'm not overfeeding him, but in the long run I will probably add a little kibble to balance it. Thanks so much for your advice! PS: Pumpkin pure would be good too, if you can find 100% with nothing added.

I'm sorry to hear! You can try to mix some foods into their kibble and see if their symptoms improve. Sami does well so far on rabbit, duck, salmon and other fish (like sardines or other fatty fish; the omegas help the skin). I add some carbs (sweet potatoes or yams or cooked rolled oats - you can also try rice) and then some veggies like cauliflower, broccoli, zucchini, carrots, pumpkin. So far he loves meal time and looks forward to it ALL DAY, but after eating the same fish for 3 days in a row, he started to refuse the meal if you can believe it! I had to convince him by picking out little pieces of the stuff he likes and feed him from my hand, until I finally got him to eat from the bowl. He is picky like that.

I'm sorry your Westie is having allergies too. For Sami, because we know his allergies, I feed him rabbit, duck, venison or turkey (every week one of these). Oat rice or rolled oats (cooked in water), sweet potatoes, sometimes even yams, chestnuts sometimes (one, not more, since they're high in calories). And vegetables - a little of everything. Carrots, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, cabbage, pumpkin, green beans. These are probably the ones I feed the most. Hope it helped give you some inspiration! ❤️

No, he also gets duck, rabbit and turkey. It's all I can find that is safe for his allergies. There would also be venison, but it's not easily available and probably would be expensive 😅

I do a combination of either turkey, duck, rabbit or fish (salmon/sardine/white fish) mixed with sweet potatoes or yams or porridge mixed with veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, carrot, mushrooms, cabbage - any of these or a combination of some). So far he loves it!

I have a few ones that I rotate between: turkey, rabbit, duck, salmon, tuna and other fish like sardines. Thankfully Portugal has a large variety of fish, so I can always buy something that I usually split between us and Sami haha!

The vet also mentioned tofu is a good protein source for dogs, but Sami has a soy allergy too, so we can't.

I really like Freshpet. It’s not canned & doesn’t have a “smell”. It comes in a roll. Might give you a few days off from cooking.

I wish we had something like this in Portugal. We don't. It would be so convenient and it would save me hours!

It would be amazing, but there is nothing like this here in Portugal or even Spain, at least I haven't found it.
