That was simply GREAT!! Frank Leahy was a legend & to see Ara Parsegian in his prime was pretty cool. Except for the funny expression pics during the loss to SC in 1964.

I hadn't heard Frank Leahy's speaking voice before now. It's amazing how similar he sounds to Andy Rooney of 60 Minutes fame. It's a fascinating look at the history of football. As a Michigan State fan, I find that earlier era particularly compelling. In 1947, MSU hired Clarence Lester " Biggie" Munn as their head coach. Munn lost his first two contests to the Irish before winning his final three jousts against the Notre Dame legend!! He is the ONLY coach to have a winning record against the man nicknamed "The Master." Leahy is certainly correct in stating that football wasn't invented at Notre Dame. After the talent Leahy acquired during the war departed, the Irish were no longer the unbeatable juggernaut they had been. That being said, he is a truly legendary figure. This look at that era sheds new light on an earlier time.

It really does. I find it to be quite incredible. I’m currently a college student, and learning about this earlier history of football is unbelievably fascinating!

@user-vl6od2lg2t As I understand, Sam Williams was from Dansville, Michigan. Not far from East Lansing. As you, of course know, he was a member of the Lions' fearsome foursome that included Alex Karras and Roger Brown. The time he played in was also extremely strong. MSU lost only three games in those first two seasons of his career. Even though Duffy Daugherty had his ups and downs people forget that nobody played a tougher schedule. Starting with the Big Ten being the strongest League in the country until the late Sixties. So many of those losses were against the strongest competition anywher.

The video of Knute Rockne was in very good shape, had to be from the late 20’s. The video as a whole looks clear from 1966.

I thought this documentary was helpful. I became knowledgeable of football ; American, when I was nine years old when watching professional football on tv . Then the superbowl winner played the college all stars before the pro exhibition season. As I learned the game while becoming an athlete, I did not get into the college game until 1969 when O J Simpson won the Heisman trophy. However college football in the 1960's was practicing segregation all though Jackie Robinson, his brother, Woody Strood, Kenny Washington , were great student athletes at U.C.L.A in the 1940's . The black athlete dating back to Fritz Pollard at the University of Akron were contributing to the college , and University programs. So I have observed college athletic programs for men and women change on some levels while still maintaining Plessey vs. Ferguson doctrine of separate and equal .

This film is only marginally accurate. A lot of errors in the history of football. For instance, that wasn’t Australian football. That was rugby league.
