The type of food that ticks every box, every single thing on my mental checklist of "What makes a stand-out memory when traveling for food."
No doubt in my mind, this is my favorite meal of the entire 2023 trip to China. Thank you for hanging out with me as we explore GuangXi's own version of this classic Southern Chinese claypot meal!
Visiting GuangZhou earlier in the trip, we had the chance to enjoy a delicious feast of traditional 'BaoZaiFan' recipes, but I have to say that I appreciate the GuangXi version even more! Not least because of the beautiful husband and wife team cultivating such a morning street food environment, not least because of the cool local history I come to learn while enjoying this dish, but come on now, can you just FEEL the depth of flavor through the video? It was truly jaw-dropping, the cooking skill of this couple is just beyond words. I could easily eat at this restaurant every single day.
It was with mixed feelings that we found this place on our very last day in GuangXi, the gratitude I felt to discover it just in time, mixed with the longing and sorrow of not being able to return the next day :). Haha, I just have to laugh at myself here. What a trip, truly the icing on the cake of a wonderful visit... I cannot wait for the next trip (this restaurant might be our destination directly from the airport!)
We still have one video left, a very special send-off and a huge feast from Li's childhood friends, a smorgasboard of unique dishes, but this video is also very special to me... a short (or not so short, as the video is 34 minutes long :) ) reminder of the beauty that is always there to be found "right under one's nose," and this "ShaGuoFan" lives on vividly in my memory even as a type this farewell.
MUCH Love, for this penultimate video, a big thanks from Li and myself. Have a wonderful day, see you for the next and final China adventure this week on Thursday!
LOCATION:
This is not an exact location as Google Maps is not very accurate in China.
This is a pin that is on the same street, so if you visit this street, the restaurant is
on the Southernmost corner at the end of the market.
